I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Dykes at Calvary Chapel in Lakeland Florida in 1996. At the time we were meeting in a run down store front downtown so w had folding chairs t sit on. I sat about 6 feet from him and what an experience. What a blessing. He is a wonderful man with a servant's heart.
Wow! Sounds like an orchestra!!!!! Had the privilege of seeing Doyle in Durban, South Africa. After playing for 30 minutes, he asked, "Before I continue with this workshop, does anyone have any question?" A voice from the crowd said, "Yes - where are you hiding the other musicians?"!!! We burst out laughing - because that what Doyle sounded like - multiple musicians!!! Brilliant!!
Great arrangement, and there is a sensitive & emotional harmony in the verse with lot of beatiful voice leading ! one of the great work for guitar ! Bravo !
I agree that when someone dies it can make us feel better to believe. When I was a Christian, believing in god comforted me when someone in my family died a few years ago from leukemia. When we're young we can't doubt what we're told because we have to trust other people that seem to know more than us. Isn't it peculiar how 99% of children that claim to be of a particular religion just happen to have the same religion as their parents? I'm going to send you a message to show what I mean.
Only just stumbled across Doyle. Phenomenal! He shouldn't be allowed to play anywhere near us mere mortals who stumble across our fretboards! Beautiful arrangements of songs.
BubsGA7, I should mention I DO have the desire to know truth. I used to be a Christian, a youth leader, and traveled across the world as an evangelist. But I later realized what I was brought up to believe was not supported by evidence but was something people just inherited from other people. People tend to think "since 'x' is comforting, 'x' must be true". If your comfort "passeth all understanding" you can't claim to know comfort comes from god. You need faith because you lack evidence.
While I certainly love all these videos. Most of all without question I highly recommend the video of him playing a beautiful acoustic arrangement of "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" on ShondasGoldenTicket. Upon hearing it I was absolutely floored!!!!
Incredible player and great tune from an amazing guitar, but that piezo-like metallic amp tone is not working for me. That guitar sounds fantastic just acoustically.
Beautiful arrangement of an amazing hymn...would have made Tommy Emmanuel proud. :) I wish they would have just mic'd the guitar and not ran it through an amp...kinda ruined it for me. Otherwise, I loved this video.
I can't say I didn't enjoy this I loved it but it was a little too much of him going off on his own little world just playing the song the way it was meant to be played would have been good enough I give you a 7 out of 10 it was good but just a little to wild for that particular song you know
Okay, thanks BubsGA7. Firstly, you do not have proof for god. I agree that one is not more believable than the other - they are both lacking evidence. Just because things exist doesn't mean that we can just explain it by saying "well it all must've come from god". There is no reason to assume that, even if it makes you feel better. If your evidence for god is what you see on earth, that is like saying "look at those gifts, they must've come from Santa". ...continued on the next post...
I don't know about "god" ... I suspect the combined genetic contributions of his parents had something to do with where he got his natural talent. I'm not trying to be rude I just don't know how you could know that he got his talent from "god" when there is no evidence for such an assumption. Why do you believe that? Do you think there really is a "God" or are you just using that phrase as sort of a poetic expression?
I agree you DO have "the right to believe god created the universe" but that doesn't make it true/rational. You have a "right" to believe anything!! But if you believe god exists without evidence then NOTHING, including the Noah story, is too absurd for you because you have "faith". Once you decide "faith" is all the logic you need to believe, then you're like a child who "just knows" Santa's real and Santa can do anything. Noah collected 10 billion species, Santa delivered 10 billion gifts.
When i listen Doyle my spirit raises, his music had influence on me, it takes me emotionaly higher, so to say..

Wonderful. Wish I could play like that!
I love how Doyle makes his guitar sound like an orchestra. Immensely powerful!
Very beautiful. Thank You, Lord for everything You have given us through music.

One of the songs that I love the most. I think of it as probably among his best cover songs, just extraordinary beautiful. He is such guitar master..
He has never forgotten who he really is playing for!
Watched, then met Doyle at a music store in SC. Really nice guy, amazing guitarist.
Great arrangement, and there is a sensitive & emotional harmony in the verse with lot of beatiful voice leading ! one of the great work for guitar ! Bravo !
This is the greatest guitar player you have never heard of. Spread the word.
god is with you my brother, lets keep gods work going.
It's a swedish folk melody, without the words it has no religious connotation as far as I'm concerned. Absolutely beautiful....
This man can play extremely well. Wonder what it would be like to play like he does.

Awesome, be near or around Houston anytime?

I'm sure we listen to it here in the states because we love swedish music, not because we here it at Church all the time.

Hey Doyle - How great thou art indeed! I'm sure the Lord wouldn't mind me saying that ! - Have a great Christmas! - You & Yours!
LOL, my thoughts exactly!
yes, Doyle is a fine Christian man.
A minister as well I'm told.
Makes me religious listening...
correction : Mark Knopfler
You're an Excellent player, I'd lose the Rivera though.

Jamie Rice yes but it's an amp maker produced video but I do agree with you .

Sounds too twangy.
