Rex Smith as Chauvelin sings Falcon in the Dive following the scenes with Grapin (Douglas Sills). Rex Smith's voice is just phenomenal in this song. Full show up for trade: www.freewebs.co...
Another rock singer who can really sing - this is Falcon in the Dive, he plays Chauvelin in 1999. Wish I'd seen it. He also starred as the hero in Pirates of Penzance with Linda Ronstadt and they both could really sing, not just rock junk. The film.
Wow, Rex Smith's energy and passion are so compelling! He's great! And the show is so very funny! I wish I could see this whole thing (the 2.0 cast). Does anyone know where I could find such a thing?
I must say, I like Rex Smith's performance here better than Terrence Mann's performance of this awesome song. Rex's voice is very clear and he hits all the notes to perfection!
i much prefer Rex's version of the beginning of the song, when he's giving orders to the soldiers. it's more passionate and desperate like he really is obsessed with finding who the Pimpernel is. Mann has a wonderful voice but he just doesn't seem to have that passion. the shouting gets a little old but Chauvelin is angry so i can forgive him that. and Rex just fits the scheming, fox-like french agent that the author of the Scarlet Pimpernel intended him to be.
Well, I guess he is a little bit like Javert. Except instead of justice, Chauvelin serves the French government. He will do anything, no matter how morally wrong, to do what they ask him to do. At least that is how I see him.
Nothing like Javert. I know Terrence played both, but Chauvelin is blood thirsty, seductive, manipulative, doesn’t care who he uses, abused or murders. He is pure old fashioned villain. Doesn’t work for the French government, it’s the French Revolution, he’s a citizen trying to seize as much power as he can in the chaos. Javert is morally in the right and unable to see where right and wrong become grey. He’s an antihero at most just like Valjean is
Too bad we didn't get to hear the full last note. I wasn't crazy about him just shouting certain words for emphasis... got too repetitive for my liking. He has the vocal strength and a great sound and could have pulled off singing more just fine.
How dare you madame! Terrence Mann paved the way for all these ragamuffins who play Chauvelin. I liked Rex better as Fred in the Pirates of Penzance. Terrence Mann is the king of all Policemen roles.
Great song, if you listen to it on the soundtrack disc. But this version is awful! Terrible choreography and staging. This should be set on the deck of Percy's schooner carrying his band of "merry men" over to France ("into the fire") for their first adventure. Here, in a parlor, its just boring.
God I know bootlegs are not good, but I desperately want this one. I know it exists and yet I evades my grasp. Amazing performance!!
Same!!! 😭
*Robspeirre* "How many geese did you count?" *chauvelin yelling* "123!" *robspeirre* "...good for you."

that last note is so powerful. wowee!! really amazing.
Guard: It was the ghost of Julius Ceaser!
Chauvelin: Julius Caeser? O.o
Guard: It spoke Latin! XD
this is one of the best things I have ever seen Rex Smith in!
Unbelievable singing! Wish we could hear it to the end!
This video is such a gem! I did not know that Rex Smith played Chauvelin. This is such a treat! Love Rex Smith! Thanks!
I love Rex's voice. It is AAAAAWWWWSSSSOOOOMMMEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sometimes listen to this while playins Assassin's Creed 2. I love Terrence Mann, but this version of the song is just so full of energy!
I think it might be a play on the exclamation: "GREAT CAESAR'S GHOST!"
"I will catch the Scarlet Pimpernel!"
"You will...? Oh good."
Wow, what a great performance, such a powerful voice. I´m enthusiastic. Simply wonderful.

I love Terrence Mann, but I do have to say that Rex's energy in this is incredible!

same! I liked his performance much better. I like both singers but I wasn't too thrilled at Mann's performance of this one. Rex was ultimate!
Incredible. wow.
@OSCEG I must say I have to agree with you. The energy is amazing! The power!
Ah.... I love Rex Smith in this role.

I cant really sing this song better than him though.. He rocks at this one!
5:51 dat note

the reviews on this are wild,,,,,,,,,, either smith is disgusting or mann is there is no inbetween
I havn't seen this before...who is Grapin? I thought Douglas was playing Percy?

@TerryMannfan Mann slept walked through the role. I like rex the best as well.
I was like, "The ghost of Julius Ceasar? In FRANCE? Impossible!" Lol
Ariana Penno during Julius Caesar’s life, he did Kapture gall and gall was France
@spartanbasileus Is this comment meant for a video of "Into the Fire"?
He's a bad guy.
Frustrated Rex is hot XD
terrence mann (the original chauvelin) is better, but you are right, rex smith's voice is more than incredible here
I don't know this show very well at all. Is Chauvelin truly a bad guy? Or is he similar to Javert in that he only wants to serve the law?
