How to Cut and Install Blinds Yourself || Allen + Roth Cordless Cellular Shade Blinds

- When we moved into our house, only three of the windows had blinds. One of the three blinds was broken so I needed to replace it. I replaced it along with the one in the other bedroom so they would match. I decided to go with blackout style cellular shades from Allen + Roth. To install the shades, they had to be cut to size so check out the video to see how to cut and install your blinds/shades yourself.

Thank you for this video. I bought the same blinds and now I feel confident enough to cut them.
After the initial pull down of the blinds do they work without sticking? Is that just because of the cut? I have Levolors that Lowe's cut for me and never any issues but the Allen + Roth I am looking at for a new home.
No sticking at all, I'm very happy with them. I don't know if it was from the cut, I would think it was more from how they're packaged, how long were they on the shelf before I bought them, maybe even humidity.

Can you tell us what kind of blade you used? Thank you.
The saw uses a 10 inch blade and I had a 40 tooth blade on it. A higher tooth count might have been better but I didn't have any issues except for another set of blinds I did at a later date and the blinds shifted a little when the blade touched it and caused a small tear in the material. However those blinds were a different material since they were not blackout they were only light filtering so the issue could have been related to the different material and not the blade.
Can we cut allen + roth motorized shades from lowes?
I haven't dealt with motorized shades so I'm not sure. I would assume they can be, to allow for proper fitting, but it would have to be done carefully to ensure no damage was done to the mechanism for opening and closing the blinds. I recommend double checking with an associate at Lowes if you decide to purchase them.
Was this an Allen and Roth cellular shade? Everything I’m reading on the Lowe’s site says they’re not supposed to be cut… Is that true? I wanna make sure before I order them lol.
It is Allen and Roth Cellular shade and you can cut them but you have to make sure to stop before getting to close to the mechanism that opens and closes them. Make sure to buy the shades closes to your window size then trim as needed. I suggest laying them horizontally and cutting. If you cut them vertically then they might shift during the cut and cause a tear I learned that the hard way.
@@thediygrunt thanks!! It’s only a small amount off of each blind I need cut. The lowes site says not trimmable so I was concerned, but maybe they just don’t trim them lol
