My goodness! How many incredible, insane things did we just witness! What an amazing performer and person! Sohyang is such an inspiration and with each performance, including this one - Everyone - she takes us on a journey. WOW!

What amazes me about this performance is the sheer stamina needed to pull this off in such a stunning manner...an almost 8 minute song, 2/3rds of which are pedal to the metal with emotions coming at us like a freight train. I have great respect for this woman.
She is absolutely inhumanly technically proficient in her mix. It's absurd. Please react more to SoHyang
She said in an interview that this song was the hardest for her because of her breathing. It has amazing air control, you can see it in the intro, I LOVE HER
She practiced hundreds of times and lay down for a few days after the performance. It's like a stage that burned everything. Singing live with a soft body for 7 minutes and 16 seconds is touching and amazing.

A melodically average song turned into a technical bonanza by one of the greatest grandmasters of vocals. The intricate technical details Sohyang put in each note from the start are so refined, I had to rewind every couple of seconds in admiration of her complexity. That is of course until her emotional delivery short circuited the technical analytic part of my brain, telling me to just relax and enjoy the ride, and what a ride it was.

Mixing and belting, Sohyang is Queen. She also switches between Korean and English like it's nothing. This is a Korean gospel song and I would say one of her hardest and most emotional.

There's an interview where she talks about this performance saying it's the hardest performance she's had to prepare for. It's easy to see why that would be the case. Between the difficult phrasing, intricate dynamics, large range, and everything else, it's a technically difficult piece to sing. But even beyond that, the song so accurately reflects her own sense of what her mission in life is. It's quite a religious song, and even the original from the (I believe) 60s had that gospel influence. I'd bet the emotions of truly inhabiting those lyrics made everything that much harder.

Thanks for a great reaction and analysis. Good to see you back reacting to Sohyang. This is a Korean gospel song which Sohyang turned into a masterpiece, taking us on an emotional rollercoaster ride. It is arguably the most technically challenging and emotional song she has ever sang. This is "next level" singing, as one vocal coach put it recently. Check out her rendition of Arirang Alone next. BTW, no worries about the copyright issue, we totally understand. Unfortunately Korean TV companies can be notorious.

I love your reactions! And Sohyang happens to be my new favorite (did not know her a month or two ago)! She sings in Korea's 'BeginAgain' concerts and is incredible in her performances. One of them is 'Misty'. One would not believe that she sang anything but jazz or blues after hearing that! also, her version of 'I Will Always Love You' sitting down on the docks of Seoul in the wind. Incredible! Oh, I just subscribed and liked as well!

That upward arpeggio at the climax is an absolute masterclass in vocal technique distilled into a single moment. Every part of that run is intricately crafted, and flawlessly executed. And it sounds incredible.
I would like to point out that the break after this where she drops right into speech is actually a part of the original arrangement, as is the way it then builds back into a joyous 4/4 reprise of the chorus. The original rendition of this song is beautiful in its own right, and it takes a truly incredible singer to be able to even match the original. And Sohyang's rendition can definitely stand beside the original.

@@JenniferGlatzhofer it's not easy to find, but there are several different videos of the original singer performing it over the years. If I recall correctly it was released in the 60s or so. The oldest recording I found was from the 80s I think, and there's a more recent one from something like the 2000s if I recall.
It was a big hit in Korea, but there's not a whole lot about it in English media. I had to do quite a bit of googling to find out about it, including a bit of Google translate at times.

You must do her O Holy Night from I Am A Singer 2 during Christmas season. An absolute gem. There are other videos of the same song from fan cams when she was singing in churches and other public places where she knelt down on the second "Fall on your knees" and stayed down for the rest of the song. Incredible.

Man by the end I am on car springs jumping out of bed saying, "get out of my way evil thoughts, I am filled with the love of God and I can't be stopped by mere mortals " ! THAT is inspiration.
