- i don't need clickbait. i went to go get my haircut and i came home with 80 turtles.
please check your local parks and wildlife department with one simple phone call next time you see turtles being sold on the side of the road. the game warden can easily be sent out to check the vendor and their legitimacy.

@@ron7941 You are in for a poopy treat sooner or later. I ended up exiling my adult sliders to the outdoor pool for the summer a few years ago XD. Funny enough, they refuse to go back to the aquarium now and have been outdoor even in winter now. If you plan to keep your turtles indoor, please, please, please invest in a proper filter, it gets absolutely nasty if you do it on a budget, lol.

She needs to make a video like this explaining why people should not buy hermit crabs either. Hermies also require a lot of care and go though horrendous things before being sold just so they can have a horrible short life. I keep taking them in from people who don’t want them anymore because they’re not fun pets and people were not aware that they can live for a long time but most are brought to me after they’ve had health issues and others kept with them have died, it’s very hard to deal with taking in animals that are already sick or dying, specially since you know that even if they survive they can’t just be reintroduced to their natural environment.

My cousins had a baby red eared slider turtle they got for $1 and kept in a little bucket in the backyard. when they moved out of state they needed to get rid of her so I took her home. I gave her the most massive beautiful turtle pond and she is now ten years old! These turtles are not easy and not cheap, but they're just the best.

i got my red eared slider turtle from a lady who ran out of room for them (she had like 5). releasing them in the wild is illegal where i live as they are not a native species and become invasive so we have had her for 14 years in a fenced pond in our yard but she's somehow learned to get around the fence and on sunny days i find her basking next to the 2 cats on the porch.

It was AWFUL. I just can't bear seeing animals in pain or in trouble. I'm just so happy for those turtles, yet still sad, because so many turtles, so many animals, have been through that and worse, such as Greyhound racing, or dogfights, or neglection. I am like 5 years late to this, but watching this video somehow made me cry because on the end of the video, I saw an exact turtle that looks like one of my old turtle that I named Seaweed, and he sadly passed because my family and I had no clue how to take care of them. I own two turtles now, and I am more experienced and actually know how to take care of them. You did the right thing in this video, and I respect you for that ❤️ I hope all those turtles are doing good!

I keep 2 turtles in a tank like that, but they are very well taken of and they are both fed. Their water is changed every other day. They can’t keep turtles in that quantity in that size of tank.

The turtles were hot and warm to the touch and they tried to stuff 80 or less turtles in a carrier tank like what excuse me but she was ABSOLUTELY right for calling authorities and taking actions the same amount of time and energy he put into getting and selling the turtles he could have easily done with some other non living product .simple .
I know this is an old comment, but what struck me, was her being against him making money on turtles lives (fair call) while she plays upbeat music, to make money on these turtles lives. Does it matter the intention, if the goal is to still profit from them? She continues to make passive income off him breaking the law, while he deals with the authorities.

When I was a kid at school we were obligated to get turtles because a teacher was selling them, today they're 20 years old and 3 years ago I rescued one from a negligent home, he was wounded, malnourished with shell rot, he was traumatized, now he's spoiled as the other two and he's very affectionate, and yes, they are the size of a dinner plate and when they were babies they needed special care. Now I love turtles!

Seriously though I found an ADULT red eared slider (I can confirm, dinner plate size) in a movie theatre parking lot who someone had run over. She was still alive somehow, like the car had somehow taken off part of her shell but left her organs untouched? Grace of God I guess. I took her to a rehab center and I got to see her released :)

I was on a walk one day (I live in Texas like Taylor) and found a red eared slider in the middle of the street on a really busy road. I went to pick it up when traffic was clear and it was over at least 16 inches. I fed it and made sure it was okay before releasing it in the duck pond back behind my house. It's so sad to know that people do this kind of thing to helpless animals just because times are tough.
Jake I know. Actually, I have another turtle story, too. I'm down in Mississippi so they're EVERYWHERE. I was at school in pe class, and we were outside on the track. Well I found this baby turtle out there that was about as big as a bottlecap, so probably like Taylor's turtles. So I was in second period, and the coach just mentions how he feels so bad for the turtle because the last time he'd seen a baby turtle (a week earlier) the guys in third period had STOMPED IT TO DEATH. So I'm not in PEETA or anything but I'm still exactly like Taylor when it comes to caring about animals, so I picked the little guy up and carried him around with me all day and released him at the creek behind my house that afternoon. Everyone in my grade was going YOU ECOTERRORIST YOU KILLED THE TURTLE and that kinda crap, well they all shut up when I actually found him about a month later when he'd grown quite a bit, I'd been tossing some fruit and krill from the pet store out into the creek for him in case he couldn't find stuff, since he stuck around, he found the food and started coming up to me on his own. I brought him to school with me, and the teachers were so amused they let me carry him around for just one more day.
That's amazing that youre able to keep taking care of it! Im the same way about wanting to protect animals. People can be so cruel especially about small animals from the wild, Ive seen people trying to catch and sell corn snakes for a ton of profit and its really disappointing.

Good for you. I think you did the greatest thing for everyone involved except your bank account. I rescued my snapper outside my back door. I almost stepped on him. Rufus was far from water. He gave me that look. So I took him in. Yeah. I learned about all their needs afterwards. Rufus tub has doubled in size in 4 months. It should be double that size. I give him daily water changes, and he basks daily, and drys out in real sunlight, even though its snowing outside. He never snaps at me or wiggles in my hands. After he poops and drys out. I let him loose to explore. Today he had a different behavior. He crawled up to my face while I was laying on the carpet, then he crawled under my neck, and slept. We normally play hide and seek during this time. lol. They can move fast.
Rufus has grown 2 inches in 4 months. I hear he going to get big. I dug a raised flower bed for flowers (8x3x20 feet). I might have to turn it into a pool, but then there's filtration. I've seen videos of what wild animal do to snapping turtles. So then there's that. What have I gotten myself into.

Thank you for caring about these turtles. They do matter indeed. They are beings. And you're right, many people have no idea of the set and proper care they require. I adopted two Red eared sliders from the SPCA when I worked there when they were 3 yrs old. They are now about 27yrs old. Each has there own 75 gallon tank, home made tank topper, heater in winter, flourescent lamp, basking bulbs, ramp out of the water, etc. They require tank changes--- not fun after over a decade of doing it, even with an aquarium pump to pump it out for me. But, I love them. My two boys, Franklin and Oliver. Thank you for caring, Taylor. :)

I am so friggin glad I watched this. I live in NYC and last week there was a person near the subway stop selling baby turtles and I briefly considered buying one. I resisted, went home, looked at how to do a proper setup, and am now going to put serious thought into getting a pet turtle. I still really want one but I will take my time and acquire them from a reputable source. If you know any, I'm all ears.

Shmeht I got one that was pretty small from a pet and they told us some stuff about them. It's almost been five years and he's doing great. He's a yellow belly slider. I did loads of research before hand and he's really happy but does not liked being handled.
