    For those who can't get access to a brush hog, get yourself a couple of goats. It's an all natural solution and requires zero human effort. While my kids were in 4H, we had 2 or 3 Nubians, and their ability to clear underbrush is outstanding! They also liked hanging out at the firepit and drinking beer with me. About the closest thing to having friends I've experienced as an adult.😂

      We had an old L model Gravely. Thing was a beast. Like a goat with carbide teeth or something.
      It would easily cut down 2-3” pine and 1-2” hardwood saplings. Would beat us together in the process but it would get it done.
      Miss that ol thing…

  • @kevintheilen9643
    @kevintheilen9643 Před 29 dny +1

    Couple of comments say that's "a beast". It does a fine job, but I remember a real beast- the old Bachtold we had with about a 5hp Wisconsin engine. It would definitely take the starch out of a teenage boy! Had the old large-diameter wheels and its minimal blade guard didn't chew up the debris as well as your modern machine. There was one forward speed and the only reverse was a hefty heave on the handles. One of life's greatest satisfactions is clearing brush.
    I wouldn't gripe too much about the small fuel tank. I'd be about ready for any kind of break after running one for 20 minutes...

    Hey Sqautch, DR Mower - I have the DR string trimmer which has like 6 rows of strings (12 strings total) and it works amazing as well. I have used the Billy Goat version of the field brush mower and it also had a small fuel tank. I believe the reasoning behind this is because it is very important with field mowers to keep the flying cuttings out of the flywheel cover, for air flow to the engine. Ideally, i use a little brush every time i fuel up to clear what ever has built up against the flywheel cover.

      Here in the Kanasa City area, we have a lot of "Osage Orange." We call it hedge.

      Run away bravely and return with wasp spray.

      I remember bush hogging as a teen and running over a nest. Never shut off the tractor and ran away as fast as that! Still got a few stings but I'd be way slower these days lol.

    You were wearing the old dealership jacket. Were you wearing it in hopes the mosquitoes would be repulsed by it?

    Got a neighbor who has the exact mower and thought he could do some stump grinding. That didn't end well, bent the housing at the spindle mount so badly that the blade was jammed against the housing.
    He thought the warranty would cover it 😂😂😅😅

    20 minutes of run time perfect it's time for an old boy to take a break anyway?

    • @squatch253
      @squatch253  Před měsícem

      Im still at the stage of life where the only break I need is about 2 hours after the sun goes down - that’ll change eventually but right now the sun always gives up before I do lol 👍

    I'm sure you must have a tractor with a bush hog. Why would you waste your time with that thing?

    • @squatch253
      @squatch253  Před měsícem

      Yes,I have multiple videos on the channel operating the Ford 8N and brush hog mower - but the Ford won’t fit in here, and a few areas are too soft to navigate a tractor without getting stuck right now, and in other areas this DR handles side slopes that I’d never take that tractor on. So the old saying, “The right tool for the job.” 👍

      This is “on track” 👍 This channel has always been about what keeps me busy in my day-to-day, and different seasons have always brought with them different content cycles. I just film what I’m doing at present and move on to the next. With the new building going in this summer, expect a lot more outdoor content like this and not much time in the shop until things start to wrap up out here. It’s been this way other years, and it’ll likely be this way again next year too.

      @squatch253 As I have gotten older, I am less concerned about how people want me to spend my time and my money. My dad used to go for a ride with me in my S-10 pickup and thought I should have a bigger truck with more room. I went online to price a new one and told him how much it would be and asked him if he wanted to help me pay for it. The conversation topic changed immediately for some reason when he was going to put his money where his mouth was. He joked that people said his dad was so tight with money that the Buffalo on his nickels would bellow from him squeezing them so hard and he was no different. Though you would enjoy a laugh. Looks good and that will let you keep it as you want it. I will watch any videos you want to make. I spent many hours on a H farmall, mowing, raking and loading/hauling hay on the farm so that is the most interesting to me.

    I’ve seen the DR machines advertised but have always wanted to hear an opinion from an unbiased owner/user. You are the owner I wished for. I could use one of these for some areas where the tractor and brush hog are not sufficiently maneuverable. 🥸👍👀✅

    • @squatch253
      @squatch253  Před měsícem

      That’s exactly why I bought it, for those jobs where I didn’t need a “sledge hammer” to do what an 8 ounce ball peen would handle. Disclaimer: They “say” this mower will handle trees up to 3” in diameter but I wouldn’t - I stop at brush lol 👍
