Wow!!! Thank you guys for all the love on this video. This is back from 2021 when I was just starting out with my videos and trying out different mixing techniques- all the way up to the industry standards now. :)
I got the idea for this video concept from Chris May, who I ended up working with on a cover of the song “Georgia On My Mind,” which is on my channel now!
I also have a brand new song out called “Something To Believe In.”
It would mean the world if you all could check out more of my videos and subscribe!

I wonder would Richard Carpenter still have the voice and the patience for doing some new harmonies and overdubbing with you, now that you touched base with him for a minute in Downey? I guess we can wait and see if Chris May can help make this happen. Richard sang a note or two at the Downey Embassy Suites interview a few weeks ago. He still has that bass in his voice in a note I heard. 🤞

Tori, I grew up listening to the Carpenters and watching their live shows on TV. In fact I still have all the original LPs. I'm sure you get many people telling you how talented you are, but seeing you compile not just Karen's parts but Richard's to is...... just amazing. No pitch correct, just a God given gift.
Keep performing and recording. Although the current music industry might not want to produce the music you want, there are a lot of people that want to see and hear an great talent like you.

I’ve always wanted to know how that was recorded . My father in 1972 was a back up classical violinist for the Carpenters . We only just begun was his favorite but also my parents wedding first dance in August 1973 . My father played for many Entertainers .. but loved the Carpenters. My grandmothers 3rd husband lived around the corner of the family in Downey Calif .. but my father has a lot of there albums and took my mother back stage to meet both Richard & Karen Carpenter. Autographed my mother’s album and talked a few minutes.. I’d say growing up as a musicians daughter you my dear are literally Karen reincarnated… I remember when she, died but the stories my dad has .. this made my day as well as my fathers. … my father is retired now and is 81 .. both parents been married 50 years .

I cried too, at that moment.
I was 10 in 1970 when the Carpenters hit the big time. I, born with an ear, loved them... Imagine how much mean crap I got for liking such a soft act in the age of rock. My "friend" who was most cruel, only THOUGHT he could sing. Four years of theater in college, but sang flat just like most people. The Carpenters were reviled by the critics, and loved by the public. I'm so happy to see people appreciate this style.
There is so much they would have gotten around to doing if she'd lived... There's a treasure trove of possibilities.

I can so relate. I was 14 and hanging out during summer vacay with my cousin in Carson, California when we passed a store with a radio playing and it was Close to You. I stopped dead in my tracks. I too have a really good ear and can spot talent from a mile away, even at that age. I could not believe what I had heard. I was in a trance.
Cousin was totally uninterested because in those days she was hanging with low riders in East LA and they only listened to 50s oldies; which was cool I dug it too.
She laughed at that amazing song but I didn't care. I never let anyone put peer pressure on me. I still well up when I hear it. The entro with Richard on those piano keys gets me going. It's one of my Big music memories like where I was when I first heard the Beatles as a small child and Elvis too.
I am thrilled Tori loves Karen as much Carpenter's older fans do. I agree I wonder what Karen and Richard would be producing these days. They were mega talented.

Your vocal range and skills in post bring back so many memories of 50 years ago. I can't begin to tell you about the overwhelming loss we all experienced when Karen passed well before her time. Her passing is what put eating disorders on a national agenda to get the help and resources needed in an effort to get ahead of these afflictions. We'll probably never get our hands completely around it but saving even one person is worth all the effort.

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown Před 5 měsíci

You are misusing the term "perfect pitch." What you meant to say is "you sing perfectly in tune." There is no catchy term for a person that can do that. "Perfect pitch" is a term that means that a person can recognize what note they are hearing and can name the note, like F# or Bb. You can play random notes on a piano and they can name them. Believe it or not, neither Richard nor Karen had that ability, so neither of them had "perfect pitch," although both of them could sing perfectly in tune.

  • @diane.franco

Doing that is so fun and you did it so well! I did something like that in my own little way with my own voice decades ago. I used my cassette tape recorder to record 3 voices. Too bad, I can't find that cassette tape anymore. I did it when I was in college to teach my classmates to sing the harmonies for a chorale singing contest. Analog technology was all we had then.

You're really very good. Not only are you singing in tune, but you have a beautiful vibrato, which you hold. Ever notice how a lot of pop singers trail off after a second or two? They can't hold the vibrato. Well, many sing flat too. But what is so interesting to me (someone whose spent his life reading magazines on multitrack recording and audio engineering) is how you've done this all yourself by knowing how to create what you want with equipment you really know how to use. I have a degree in music and am a very critical listener...and I think you're really, really good. :)

@@ToriHolub I don't know if you're going to see this because this is one of your earlier posts, but I have to modify my above comment. I just watched your collaboration with Dan, on "Suddenly." Please note that this comment is from someone who's painstakingly anal, in terms of what I like to listen to. (I'm also painstaking in my equipment. I listen on Tandberg electronics, using a Sumiko moving-coil cartridge on my turntable, then listening through Stax electrostatic earspeakers.) I don't like screamers and overembellishers who totally destroy the melody in an effort to call attention to themselves, which is why I like Mandy Harvey. (I'm sure you've heard of the deaf singer/songwriter who was given the Golden Buzzer by Simon Cowell on America's Got Talent.) Mandy's sung the national anthem for professional sports events and stated she wanted to remain faithful to the composition by not embellishing the melody.
Anyway, the point I wanted to make is that your covers for Karen show a similar range to Karen's, but then you move up to Olivia's range for "Suddenly" and it didn't sound like you moved into head voice to hit the high notes '...say...,' except for more pianissimo '...with you....' On 'say' you were in full chest voice and right on-pitch. In the end it probably is immaterial because your voice was still beautiful in head voice. I've been watching reactors watch your collaboration with Jim on "We've Only Just Begun," and I guess it probably doesn't matter to them, but I emphasize how your singing actually takes away from your engineering savvy. I outline to them how you have tremendous facility with multitrack decks and professional-level sequencers (though I imagine I should explain to them what a sequencer is! :) Don't get me started on the anechoic wedge squares festooning your studio walls! :) I think you're brilliant, though you consistently remain humble.
My reaction to the first few notes you sang on this cover: My eyes welled up and I was transfixed on you. You're not just really good ... your singing is nothing short of stunningly gorgeous. My biggest issue with you every time I hear you sing is that you're not as widely known as you should be. Keep working on those songs you mentioned you've been working on. Now that I think of it, Kacey Musgraves self-released three albums before getting signed with a major label. Even that isn't necessary because Mandy Havey released two albums on what might be considered an independent label. They're writers, but your singing is so good that you could have songs written for you. (Karen and Olivia didn't write.) Well, I'm just rambling now, so I wanted to say really nice job. By the way, the blonde hair in the new style is very nice!
