      It’s actually not a ‘digital to digital’ converter. You can’t convert digital to digital. There’s nothing converted. It’s a digital pass through. It takes digital in via USB and passes it our via Optical and Coaxial.

      I think the longer you can keep the audio in the 'digital domain' all the way through to the recorder input, the less likely there may be degradation to the 'purity' of the signal due to digital to analog and analog to digital conversions. To put it another way, keeping the audio stream in ones and zeros results in virtually no loss of a clean audio signal. More music, less noise.

    how do you do the music titles?

    • @macinjosh2223
      @macinjosh2223  Před 9 měsíci

      All depends on what recorder you have really. On all recorders you can add titles manually using the buttons on the unit - more detail on this would be in the manual of your specific recorder. If you have a player that supports NetMD you can connect it via USB to your computer and use the webminidisc app to title up your discs.

    • @macinjosh2223

      Your record head could be damaged, or your audio output device on your computer could be set incorrectly. In windows, search for sound settings in the windows search and select the digital out. In macOS go to system preferences and click the sound icon. You should see something like USB audio device. Select it and the audio should be going to the MD recorder. If you need any help, the r/minidisc Reddit is a great place to ask, with many people who have used the format for years to offer help. Hopefully you get it working! Thanks for watching!

      @just_passing_through Před rokem

      What model recorder do you have? Not all MD recorders have a 3.5mm input jack that accepts both analog and digital. Many only act like a standard 3.5mm analog input and don’t accept or recognise a digital signal. If a MD recorder does not accept digital via that port you would experience exactly what you are describing here… no auto-start recording, and when you press record manually, no sound.

    Hi @macinjosh2223 Great video! In order to record on MD from a losless file, e.g. from Tidal or Qobuz (which will then 'go through' Atrac), does it matter to what source you connect the DAC? This video here czcams.com/video/GyUVF5Lcz-0/video.html says you require "bitperfect connectivity" for lossless output, in example the windows mixer should not change the bit rate when it goes to the DAC. How do know if my laptop does not mess with the quality before it go though the DAC to the MD? (I would like Atrac to be the only compress mechanism that touches the original lossless file, as would be the case when recording digitally from a cd player through an optical output)

    • @macinjosh2223
      @macinjosh2223  Před 9 měsíci

      I'm not quite sure - you should be able to go to windows sound settings and there should be some options for output quality etc. If you have a motherboard with realtek audio you might be able to use the hd audio control panel for this.
