[TF2] Why Turbine is Hated

- Some guy talks terribly about Turbine, totally tanking it and throwing away his trendy and trope-setting intro to the trash for this.
Objectively speaking Turbine is a bad map for the reasons listed, both for CTF and Deathmatch and I also think Subjectively it's boring because of how easy it is to cause a stalemate in it, if you like it though and think it's fun then sure, go play it, hell buy a Strange Filter for it and change your weapon to a Strange Hydraulic. Don't let some guy ruin your idea of fun pal, remember that.

In my experience with 2fort, competent snipers can only shut down the sewers and the bridge area, however inside the bases they aren't as powerful. 2fort gets a pass for me since there's plenty of fun and brawl to be had inside the 2fort bases, however with Turbine it's literally just one team dominating the other.

when one of the team managed to rule the enemy territory, it's a guarantee spawn camp massacre.
True, all you need is a competent heavy/pyro with a competent medic you can spawn-camp super easily

You know, I have a conspiracy that the map-maker *knew* that that section of the map was by far the best section of the map, and so as a result, decided to design the entire map around making everybody spend as much time in that section of the map as humanly possible.

Fitting how this came out just after I had the worst match of turbine in my entire TF2 career.
2 good engineers. 2 is all it takes to complete pause the entire map forever because our team just can't defeat them.
If they're turtling the intel all it takes really is maybe a friendly engineer to make a base of operations in the main area and a stock medic to uber a demo with mild support from the rest of the team. Just wait until the rest of their support dies before making the big push. If they've locked you into your spawn and intel you're screwed unless they make a blunder like walking into your sniper's sightline and you can coordinate with a Cloak and Dagger Spy to sap before they respawn.
Engineer gaming.

The right engineer main on the wrong map can make all the difference in the match
Something about 2fort makes it much more conductive to friendlies, which I feel is what makes enjoyable for so many. Even if I'm not always friendly, seeing the sights of 2fort feels like a nice day out, while turbine is just a cold, unforgiving room full of snipers.
I think it’s also 2fort’s time being around, considering it was in the original map pool while Turbine is a community-created (I think) map added later.
you forgot about how there aren't ANY ammo packs in mid, meaning you'll always have to run back to spawn if you run out of ammo or metal.

I love turbine because you can setup a sentry nest right next to the exit of the enemy vents and just sit there laughing to yourself until an ubered heavy pops out of the vent
You people are literally evil and the reason why I'm not happy playing on Turbine.
And that's why i hate turbine especially considering there will be a sentry near each corner and maybe one on crates.

Especially when u have to cap on hightower and they kick u when you try to cap and had everything done and now its reset, this cost me HOURS!

And then when you finally get what you need done and attempt to cap, they are like “Why are you doing this! You can’t cap, this is **insert “dm” map name** neyahrm!” And I’m like “I just want to get my australium contracker, I need to do this I’m sorry, I’ll buzz off after I get my contract done and I won’t do this again just please dude I’ve been here for hours!”
And you know what? Sometimes they’d actually act nice about it and occasionally even help me farm points to get my stuff done with. And those guys were pretty cool because they understood what I was doing. HOWEVER there would almost always be those people that say “oh screw your contract, you deserve to go to hell” and I’m like “come on man!” And they’re like “fack yu”.
If you’re reading this please for the love of god, don’t get mad at someone just for capping on a game mode. The worst that’ll happen is that you get a 1.5 min break from the game and that people may vote another map (even then that would be majority vote so it shouldn’t count as a downside to begin with since most people on your side would benefit from choosing their preferred map). Just be civil and not rude and that’s all. You’ll have a way more fun time with others in the game if you yourself are fun to be with.

add tons of choke points
Large sightlines

The entire map is a choke point, even if you just stay in spawn forever.

Funnily enough, I found an old competitive TF2 video from around 2008 from people coming from TFC who said Turbine was the best map. It plays better with the old Team Fortress gameplay philosophy of intensely coordinated clans strategizing against each other in mind.
Its incredible how much 13 years can do to change a game's competitive scene.
never trust tfc fans, they think archaic maps with outdated designs like dustbowl and 2fort are competitively viable
@@dkskcjfjswwwwwws413 in tfc, dustbowl was hardly played competitively. 2fort was very popular tho. It makes sense for that game, but tf2 is so different that 2fort went from the best competitive map to the worst competitive map.

This map is actually really bad that my own team manages to make a Sentry nest OUTSIDE the enemy spawn.

My guess is because nobody cares about the objective so it's easier to learn how to play.
I like ctf alot more than i used to because the lack of timer and lack of care for doing the objective means you can play for a decent amount of time once the bots are kicked. The second coming of grey mann has actually boosted my opinion of ctf gamemode.
Unfortunately, about half the time I queue for two fort or turbine now, some scout speed caps while the teams are horrifically unbalanced
Turbine without engies and competent snipers is one of the most fun maps in the game, just pure dm on the middle.

In other words, the middle “no-man’s” land is rarely neutral ground. One of the teams is going to take over it easily.

It’s still my favorite map.
I too am a glutton for punishment. Pretty much my go-to.
I love it due to a lovely community server and it does not run at 3fps
2Fort (and pretty much all other ctf maps) is my favourite to just turn my brain off and left click at players.
Noone is perfect.

Honestly what makes many tf2 maps bad is sloppy map design that leads to sniper and engineer being overpowered in them.

The reason why I like turbine is that the entire map apart from the vents is rocket jumpable and not very open, which makes it the perfect map to practice small jumps with high speed and market garden timing

Turbine is about as close to actual WW1 trench warfare that you can get in TF2.
Two sides locked in a never ending stalemate mindlessly throwing their lives away to try and gain just a little bit of ground. And when that ground is finally gained. Now comes to taking the next little bit of ground, to get just a tiny bit closer to victory. Or more likely, the other side will push you back and the frontline will be right back to where it was before. Rinse and Repeat, until somebody actually wins.
All you would need to do is attach one of those strap on shock pads to deliver a painful shock to you whenever you take damage in-game, and increase the amount of captures needed to win the game to like 10 or something. And boom, turbine can now give people PTSD. Take that Battlefield One. Here's your REAL realistic WW1 military shooter.

I love this map, stalemates can go on for literal hours and kinda forces you to either try your hardest or genuinely come together as a team to make an effort to push. One team can get the upper advantage and have mainly control but get stopped around the opponents spawn bit can get set back by some spies. I like the instant respawn servers and long ass games. The matches go infinitely without rounds unless there enough people on the server btw
in vent you can heard sounds of sentry and enemies and theres also death screen where you can see who is death
CTF maps USED to have a timer that would be based around the number of players present on the server... the mode no longer having one is due to Valve literally removing it once they went with the Esports UI.
I just spent an hour and a half straight confined to one hallway. Good times.

Great analysis! This is why I don't make videos on Turbine. I've only ever seen Juudolf make halfway interesting gameplay on this map.

I assume that you are going to have a video on how you would fix the map. After all, you seem to have some ideas on how to fix.
The air vents are a demoman's wet dream. No chance to avoid pipe grenades and corners for sticky traps
I love the gen 4 music used.
Even though it's the first map I ever played at, I absolutely despise it, it's the opposite of fun. I'm puzzled how I stayed with this kind of first impression.
I also hate that there's a contract for it and that you need to:
1. Capture the intelligence
2. Defend the intelligence (where "defend x" is the single worst kind of contract objective, as it only counts if you kill a player actively capturing the map objective, but most of the time you're going to kill people before they get to it... but at least on CTF you don't need to play on defense)
3. Finish the round (which is awful on 5CP and especially CTF)
I love this map to death. Out of my 2,000k hours playing this game a fairly good chunk of it has been spent playing turbine. I love how either banana halls can make for the perfect choke points that's enjoyable whether you're defending or trying to destroy some sentries, the practically orgasmic deathmatchy placement of props and health packs, the fact it never ends, which is okay because pushing and falling back creates new gameplay changes- it's not 100% open deathmatch, like hightower- and not 100% choke points, like 2fort. God it's perfect for a casual scrub like me...
Also it's a really good map for pyro lol
Snipers dont suck as much as you might think since there's so much cover and blindspots, but if they're really that good then you can just avoid the midpoint entirely and play defensive and cycle around your base. But yeah snipers are absolutely the worst part of the map.
The midpoint doors not being transparent actually make them perfect for retreating as the fact that you don't know what's behind them wards off many enemies from chasing you and can lead to them getting baited if you're lucky and have a teammate watching the doors.
The fact that there's only one really good means of pushing to the intel means that there will always be coordinated groups of players on either side so you'll very rarely be wondering where your team is.
The spawn camping can suck, but it usually doesn't last long since there's no reliable source of health or ammo near the spawns.
Overall, while the map does have its flaws, I can personally look past them and see the map for it's strong points and love it all the more.
imo Turbine has more tighter chokepoints than 2fort but I'll agree to disagree.

One of the maps of which I have the fondeat memories of the game. Especially after taking a pc break to go to the seaside with my grandparents. Playing again after a week in the sun and water was so pleasant!
The Cyrus battle in the beginning is more like cynthia
To fix the map I'd say
make the midground bigger,
make the midground healthpack stations less deep with tapered edges as opposed to hard 90° walls,
replace the vents with sizeable corridors but keep the intel entrance that size,
remove the door on the staircase exit,
have a single spawn door in the center of where the two actually are,
on the staircase leading to the spawn exit have a middle section to the stairs so that attacking forces have a checkpoint of sorts.
Or smth idk
That ammo pack outside gets plenty of exit when the enemy team stomping your team is spawn camping you making you unable to leave spawn

I can proudly attest that my most unfun game of TF2 took place on this map. After that game, I had to take a break from TF2. Naturally I blame the map and not myself because it’s easier to do so hehe
When a decent sniper joins blu or red, the game becomes unplayable to the enemy and almost no one can leave there spawn.
My favorite thing to do on turbine is camp the air vents as demo and just put sticky traps around the corner right before the intel room

edit: you kinda forgot about things like mega tryhards spawncamping or engies setting up in vents over intel out outside the vents right on the balcony (the last one might be mentioned with the "correct sentry placement locking down everything" and if it did then i didnt catch it)
Try to avoid talking about specific types of people since it's highly dependent on whose playing and how people react, kinda like if I complained if Upward was bad because bots are always on it, it's an issue not specific to the map

I used to play on a 24 hour Turbine server when I first started playing TF2. I will always have a soft spot for Turbine.

The only reason i play skial is because they actually put a round timer on their "default" servers, even if it's an hour long.

One time I was playing we have 3 engineers 2 medics 2 snipers 1 soldier and 2 pyros and etc
The enemy had 2 spy's when they sapped my sentry gun near the intellegnce window thingy, all hell broke loose everyones diwying and some survived some even made it through the intellegence but died horrobly its exiting cause when I play it the chaos of tf2 is just *chefs kiss*
Turbine is the best map for Deathmatch.
For those who don’t know, Deathmatch is basically a gamemode where there is no objective or round timer(?).
Because of this one longe range class in a middle to close range game
Add four barricades, two each between the mid stairs and the container and two additional walls for the walkways, making the that windowed part more longer; then add a second route on the vents (if you wanna create another way in the vents, that's fine too) and make way to safely drop down that separated-by-glass meeting room behind the briefcase (if you wanna transform that way from a vent to a walkway kinda like on Well, that's fine too); lastly, for sprinkles, remove the garage doors from the spawn-linked way and put the health at the corner of the now-barricade and container. That may be make it more bearable, I suppose
Everytime i play turbine, i just go engie because i know how cheap the sentry spots are and as a result, i barely have to do anything
