No I never been to Belgium ...but my Great-Grandfather whom lived in Brussels, Belgium in the late 1800's after had living the Belgian Congo in Africa and moving to Belgium in the late 1800's. He came to America with my Great-Grandmother whom he met in Paris, France when he married her.

It's all about eating, which is pretty much what a lot of Belgium is about, and beer, of course. Funny to see Belgium through the eyes of New Yorkers, though with excellent Dutch pronunciation.

Ha, you went to the patisserie near the street where I used to live in Sint-Niklaas ! Now I live in Brussels. I wonder what was the Chinese restaurant of your childhood friend ? Was it De Lange Muur ?
i was surprised to see sint-niklaas, i was born and still live there... i live at 5min walking distance from that shopping mall you went in sint-niklaas.
im happy to see that you and your family enjoyed their stay here! and ofcourse enjoyed our food, chocolate and beers.
thats why we are famous for :D next time go check out brugge (bruges) and gent (ghent) those are nice cities too!

thx for responding and yah sint-niklaas is nice. next time you have to come for the ''vredefeesten'' roughly translated : ''peace celebrations'' we celebrate peace on earth. its every september (sadly not this covid year tho) but its great for everyone, specialy for the kids... with ALOT of balloons, even the special shape ones go up, animation shows, live music concerts, fireworks, fair, foods and drinks ETC... the whole weekend long till late at night +- 3am! if the weather is good ofcourse :D you never know in belgium :D but you should google/youtube search ''vredefeesten sint-niklaas'' you'll see what i mean... sint-niklaas is balloon city ;)

8:20 - The cool thing about the food outlets around the Agoraplein is that despite them being in a super-touristy area, they are actually really good! I can highly recommend fries from Papy, right next door to Aux Gauffres de Bruxelles.

You forgot to mention that the public transport in Belgium is very good. From Antwerp to Brussels is only 50 minutes or less by train, try doing that by car ...

Is this a joke ?? The public transportation is horrible, the STIB is dirty like hell, late at you need twice as much time as by car to go anywhere. Not speaking about the trains always late or on strike (like today again :D )

You're a lovely family, I just discovered you and immediately subscribed. I come from Luxembourg, the tiny neighbour country of Belgium and I did my university studies in Bruxelles in french. In what language were you scolarized? I presume flemish as sint niklaas is in Flandres? So thanks for telling me now after all these years that I pronounce Duvel the wrong way, but so did all the french speaking belgians haha

Thanks for showing the nice sides of Belgium to the outside world! Brussels is such a melting pot of so many cultures. Next time you go please also visit the African neighbourhood in Brussels: MATONGE. I think you really missed that one on your trip. For the rest: I think you summed things up well. Things to do in Belgium: Eating delicious stews, tasting chocolate and drinking beer.
Why would she go to matonge? 😅 there's nothing to do there, she missed some cool places like the atomium, mini Europe, cinquantenaire, but not matonge 😂
