    It's unlikely that Ganondorf was aware of Calamity Ganon, or at least that he wasn't seeing Hyrule through Calamity Ganon's eyes. My evidence? At the very beginning, he seemingly recognizes Zelda by her face (only logical since he knew Zelda in the ancient past and may have even conversed with her while he was still feigning allegiance to King Rauru), but he only seems to recognize Link by the fact that he carries the Master Sword. He knows that the name of the one who wields the Master Sword is named Link, but doesn't seem to know what he looks like until that moment.
    Surely, if Calamity Ganon was acting as Ganondorf's eyes and ears, he would've been able to recognize Link by his face, rather than just the fact that he carries the Master Sword.

    This was a great summary of Ganondorf’s seal. I find it really fascinating Ganondorf’s reaction to being defeated has him devolved to going to the pose he was sealed in. I wonder if Rauru’s seal was more than magic, but also psychological.

    There is one addendum I'd like to make to this: even after Ganondorf breaks the seal, he never really seems to recover from it. Obviously for the majority of time he spends in Link's time, he looks really decayed and withered, but even during the final boss fight, where he rehydrates and turns hot again, there are hints (just one, really) that the seal may have some subtle, lingering effect on him yet. After you defeat his demon king form, he wails in agony and, seemingly inadvertently, returns to the pose Zelda and Link found him in beneath Hyrule castle, arched back and all. It only lasts for a moment before he snaps himself out of it and eats his secret stone, but he has to actively and arduously struggle against it, almost like it's some kind of reflex or muscle memory he's fighting. I doubt it's terribly meaningful in terms of lore, but it is an interesting observation and a fun tidbit.

    The sad part is that we can assume from the verbiage of Demise's curse that if his reincarnation is defeated by the ones bearing the blood of the goddess and the soul of the hero, that he will return again, making the cycle begin anew. This means that if Rauru succeeded in draining and purifying all of Ganondorf's magic he might have broken Demise's curse of hatred.

      @valjamin8456 Před měsícem +2

      @@braydenbanks4228 This may be what ended up happening in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity's timeline. In that split timeline, thanks to the butterfly effect created both by a tiny egg-shaped robot, and a shard of BOTW's Calamity Gannon, even though Age of Calamity's Calamity grew far stronger than the one in the original timeline, Hyrule was not defeated this time, but destroyed the monster 100 years ahead of time!
      This means that although the surface-level structures of the castle were damaged in the war, the deeper layers were not destroyed because the Calamity of that world did not have enough time to do so. Thus, Raru's seal was likely unaffected by the war, therefore allowing him to continue slowly draining away Ganondorf's strength and power, until the king of darkness gradually turns to dust and dies at the hands of the king of light.
      As such, no future games are likely to be set in the Age of Calamity timeline, because Demise's curse ends up broken save for a few tremendously weaker incarnations that will likely be easily defeated by a stronger Hyrule alone.

    I love how the totk backstory is an exercise in determinism. Zelda told rauru about the future, and what happens exactly, absolutely guaranteeing the beginning of the cycle. Which in turn is why Rauru sealed him away like that. At the same time, Link in botw is completely unaware of the light dragon, and what waits below the castle. Things play out exactly as they are supposed to (as opposed to how ocarina of time for example changes things between multiple timelines)

      And some of this happens because they think they can change or avoid it... Raru knew Ganondorf fakes his aliance, but thought he could defeat him, only to do what Zelda said to him did happen in her timeline.

    A hint of Ganondorf's Conciousness actually being transfered into Calamity Ganon is one Dialogue we get when confronting the Fake-Zelda in Hyrule Castle's Throne Room...
    She completely restored that place with every single detail, even the Floor with the Triforce-Mark on it which became fragile after Laser came out of the Cocoon and collapsed when the Manifested Body of the Calamity crashed right onto it.
    This Fake Zelda is a Puppet of Ganondorf, there is no possible way that Ganondorf somehow could extract her Memories of everything she saw.
    And the Scentence she said afterwards is also very interesting:
    "Does it awaken memories? Memories of our Time here?"
    It could technically be that Ganondorf is Assuming Link and Zelda spent some time in the Throne Room, but... what if he is actually referring to the Time when he actually was somehow inside of the Calamity?
    Even if this Line isnt Solid proof enough, the Illusion he created has to proof that he remembers the exact look.

      @ExtraBurntToast Před 5 měsíci +26

      Another way to look at it is that Gannondorf was just drawing from Link's memories to create the reconstruction. The only flaw in this idea, however, is that he makes the puppet look like past Zelda. He wouldn't do this if he was able to draw memories from other people.
      I'm of the opinion that Gannondorf had no idea that the calamities were occurring, but the fact he perfectly recreated that room does pose some interesting questions.

      The thing is that, although Ganondorf refers to Phantom Ganon as his "puppet", there is evidence to suggest that it does have a mind of its own: it talks to characters, it acknowledges Link as a potential threat even though Ganondorf is dismissive of him, it sabotaging the various regions goes against Ganondorf's desire to win through overwhelming force, and Ganondorf didn't know until the throne room fight that Link was the one interfering with what Phantom Ganon was doing.
      I think the more likely answer is that Fake Zelda did its research while Ganondorf stayed underground.

    That’s interesting that logically Rauru is still alive and whole in the Age of Calamity timeline. Also, the ‘purification unit’ all the way up to the castle and Sheika pillars were probably each installed after cycles of Calamities as well, each one trying to prevent future calamities.

  • @speedude0164
    @speedude0164 Před 3 měsíci +5

    Hyrule Castle itself being part of the seal and having the source of the Calamity at it's very bottom is such a cool concept, but it's explained super weirdly in the game. The castle's role in the seal is touched upon twice, one being in Ganondorf's character profile where it says the magic binding him weakened when the castle was damaged during the Calamity, and the other being on the tablet shown in this video where it says the castle was built to prevent the site from being disturbed. I took this to mean its purpose was blocking the entrance to the Imprisoning Chamber so no person or animal can walk in and accidentally screw up the seal, but that doesn't really make it sound like the castle itself being damaged would weaken it. I then went to read the tablet in French to see if that would clarify things, and it basically said that the castle was built as a way to sustain the seal rather than block the entrance. That makes much more sense and falls much more in line with what was said in the interview, and it's the kind of thing I would've read on my first playthrough and immediately had an epiphany on why the seal fell apart: because it lost its foundation. I really wanna do a full playthrough in French when I get the chance, cause the more I look into stuff like this, the more I realize the English translation really didn't do this game justice.

      @Chris-gx1ei Před 2 měsíci

      I think in the German Version it was a bit more clear, it's said basically something like:
      If the Castle is no more, so will the seal vanish... Or something like that.
      Maybe Nintendo of America is just very fucked up like always or most of the time at least, because most of Lore that you can "only" find in Japanese is actually visible in many other languages - but strangely not the English one

    It is kind of ironic that king Rauru may have been on the verge of finally defeating the demon king thru his seal and time, but that due to the calamity seizing control of the shiekah tech and hyrule castle falling to ruin caused Rauru to finally succumb to decay and eventually losing to the demon king in the end. And Ganondorf seemingly had no control or awareness of the calamity that his gloom/malice had released at all. If this all eventually gets tied back to Demise's hatred/curse somehow, maybe it turns out that demise was incontrol of the calamity thru Ganondorf's sealed power causing the eventually release of Ganondorf, and therefore the incarnation of his hatred to be revived once more. Maybe Demise sensed that Rauru was winning and that could have broken Demise's curse, which was what prompted demise to act thru the calamity in the first place. Gives you alot to think about.

    When you think about it; the Age Of Calamity split of the story may have proven your point about Rauru being able to purify Ganondorf's darkness, if not win given that the Castle was still mostly intact unlike in Breath of the Wild where it was greatly damaged and decayed. Since in AOC the Calamity was defeated and Hyrule still stood united, preserved Rauru's hold on Ganondorf in where eventually he and his darkness would eventually be purified, ending the cycle.

    I also believe that Evil Tree has a massive thing to do with Ganondorf as well. Its like a Yokai or something. And its all chi. while the Sheikah tech is like a form of Alchemy. And i even was making a video about Ganondorf, Kami and Shintoism and what that Tree is and how all of that life energy is also from the spirits of the dead which in a way is kinda dark. Along with Zelda and Mineru being the Fortune Teller and how the Anicent Hero is tied to it all. Even made a Gif of how the Castle was placed down on my twitter while workin on the script using a floating block, a zoani spike and ultrahand lmao

      The layout of Gloom's Lair when viewed from above is analogous to an open human chest cavity.
      - The main arena where you land is shaped like a human heart, and the threads are blood vessels
      - The deep voids around the main arena are shaped like lungs
      - The gloom roots that branch out above the arena are shaped like bronchii, which deliver oxygen (or in this case gloom) to the "lungs"
      - The gloom tree also looks like a diaphragm

      Damn thanks that makes a ton of sense! but it also looks like an evil face with Eyes and a mouth as well with branchs at the top without leaves. But the Heart idea? Makes PERFECT SENSE AT THE SAME TIME!!!
      If Zonai Light (Green Glow Energy) is a form of life energy, like with Shiekah tech as well, then wouldnt be Ganondorfs Gloom? Life Energy is in EVERYTHING, from the trees, plants animals to even the people. The Tree is like a heart for his gloom sucking it out of every living thing and pumping into him like one giant iv bag or heart transplant thing. Thats even creepier given what he converts that life energy into. Thanks for letting me know bout that!

    I remember hearing a theory a while ago involving the seal. (I forget which youtuber mentioned it) That being that the reason why we only see Rauru's hand at the start of the game compared to the full body, is that the Shiekah took the rest of the body and put it in the shrine of resurrection to create the Ancient Hero.
    This explains why we see that the ancient hero has both Zonai and Ganon-like elements like the red hair. It's because it's a Zonai body resurrected with a small amount of gloom.
    This also makes sense with why the king of Hyrule after the 1st great calamity would banish the Sheikah tech. It wasn't because of the Divine Beasts, but that the Shiekah resurrected and "defiled" the god-like Rauru.

    Did he learned that from the two masked Gerudo figures- Kotake and Koume? If so then it would make sense since they are his Surrogate mothers.

      I assumed tremors from the Great Calamity reached the Imprisoning Chamber and loosened Rauru's grip, causing the leaking Gloom to decay his body. If that's the case, I figure he'd still awaken eventually given the massive battle that took place at Hyrule Castle. Thing is, not only would this happen after Link and Zelda's lifetimes or in their very old age, it calls into question if the Light Dragon still exists in that world since Zelda most likely never goes to the past.

    • @OmegaGamer1989
      @OmegaGamer1989 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Rauru's decay has been going on for a LOT longer than a hundred years. Zeltik is mistaken in their assumption that the great Calamity and the damage to the castle is what caused the seal to start to weaken. In reality, the seal simply wasn't going to last forever; it was going to fail when it failed with or without the damage the castle received.
      There's nothing that actually *suggests* that the calamity is the only thing that caused the seal to weaken, so there's no reason to assume that. Not to mention that Ganondorf is pretty confident that the seal will fail one day no matter what, so we can infer that the seal was never gonna last forever. He says so right before Rauru seals him.

      It's pretty clear Rauru's seal is acting as an infinite Light of Blessing, constantly draining Gloom from Ganondorf, but the castle's role in the seal is pretty unclear. I think this is due to a bit of a translation error on the tablet in the Royal Hidden Passage. The English version makes it seem like the castle was built to block the entrance to the seal and prevent someone from going in and screwing with it, but I then went to read the French version and that basically says the castle was built to sustain the seal and give it a foundation, and that makes way more sense based on the lore stated in this video. That's the kind of thing I would've read and immediately had an epiphany on why the seal fell apart.

      @sboinkthelegday3892 Před 5 měsíci +2

      I guess it would be presumptuous to include that Sheikah tech would be powered like with nuclear energy, out of refined Ganondorf's magic. But that kind of thinking was part of the reason my reaction to the Nintendo Everything interviews was more, "yeah... and?" than the befuddlment that GameXplain had.
      Also, apparently the sealed body of Ganondorf was MOVED, actually, if I read the interview correctly. Or the fight against Ganondorf already took place in the PERFECT location where the leyline was located? It was certainly greatly altered with the Purification Unit. That's different than saying that was the location they just HAD to work with.
      Also, Rauru's hand is a reference to he toilet hands hat want paper. The joke is that using toilet paper, is sort of like using Buddhist Ofuda or Shide to guard against the "unclean" elements... so the best use case of sacred charms is, the practical way...

  • @bagofshhh
    @bagofshhh Před 5 měsíci +6

    So, since the shrines were seals made by Rauru and Sonya, how do the light roots factor in? We’re the shrines specifically chosen due to their proximity to the light root, or did the light root grow downward from the shrine? I’d assume the shrines came first, and the roots grew down after (since the sky island shrines don’t have a corresponding light root).
    Separately, what about the shrines that are just crystals disconnected from their supposed location? I wonder what happened there.

    • @ggholdengo
      @ggholdengo Před 5 měsíci

      my theory is that the light roots were an unintentional product from the zonai shrines; resulting from their light energy channeling to the underground and forming these plant-like structures. People eventually discovered them while exploring the depths and used what's left of the zonai magic to activate them and provide luminescence to the underground, explaining why a lot of the mines were built near them. The mines on the sky islands (or wherever they're located before they rose into the sky) probably didn't have the same kind of connection, thus there are no light roots underneath. The best I could say for the crystal shrines is that the green shrine crystals were probably some sort of dormant mode for the shrines, this is either used for transportation or some other means.

    • @bagofshhh
      @bagofshhh Před 5 měsíci

      @@ggholdengo Rght, so if the light root came after the shrines, which I think is feasible, it means they also came well after the Zonai would have established all of the underground mines and structures though. Because by the time Rauru and Sonia would have clearing out Hyrule, he and his sister would have been either the last, or one of the very few Zonai left, so well after the Zonai flourished. If I am remembering what the game said correctly, the sky islands weren’t even created until after Rauru’s death, because it was something that Zelda suggested Mineru and the sages do. So those sky island shrines would have been ground level when they were created, so it would probably reinforce the idea that the light roots grew down form the shrines.
      I think there is a lot more going on with the Zonai history than what has been letting on. Because for all the talk of them coming from the sky, it sure seems they actually came from underneath Hyrule. Because all of their ancient history is from below, and the sky islands didn’t seem to exist until after their demise. There wasn’t even a way to easily access the underworld until Ganondorf blew holes in the ground during his return. The only Zonai connected means of travel were those underground Zonai towers, but those only take you up, not down.
