  • In this video the Bio Dude discusses and shows his update on his Tetra Fauna 75 gallon deluxe 10+ year old bioactive terrarium. This terrarium is attempting to closely mimic the North American Bog/Shrubland with the following species co-habitating: 1.1 Albino Cornsnakes, 0.2 Green Tree Frogs and a 0.1 Green Anole. Currently this biotype is representing the winter time, so the Terra Firma is slightly drier than what it would be typically if during the spring. I discuss the standards the I took when co-habitating as well as the necessary standards any keeper should take. I discuss the daily care, insects involved within the system, each animal and products used to help create this environment as well as which products I am using to maintain this community. I also discuss my views on different co-habitant approaches. I hope you all enjoy this video as it was requested almost daily by my followers : )

    I have a large tropical bioactive (60 gallons) for my red-tailed boa, who is still quite young and small. I have isopods and springtails in there, but could I also safely add other insects/arthropods? I'm an entomology student and love the idea of having a vibrant ecosystem with lots of lovely bugs running around. Do you think I could introduce worms, millipedes, etc without screwing up my plants or substrate? I'm particularly interested in exotic cockroaches from similar habitats, as I have wanted some for a long time but am hesitant to have an entire separate terrarium for an animal that spends 90% of the time hiding in leaf litter. Any advice is appreciated!

      @safetyzone2962 Před 3 lety +12

      His Terra Firma doesn't need it which is what he is using. The reason it doesn't need it is because it aerates from top to bottom generating air pockets and humidity pockets. It also stays dry at the top but moist in the middle and bottom layers.

    I agree green anoles are underrated. and I honestly didnt realize that until I got my Mangrove Snake who has only been willing to eat...lizards lol. So i have been buying tones of anoles to keep around for feeding while I work on getting him on other things. I have practically fallen in love with all these little lizards I have to feed to my snake lol! But good news is I DID kill one so I could soak it with a few rats pups and then put that anole under the rat pups and left it to see if I could start tricking my mangrove into eating rats and IT WORKED! Next feeding I will try to just soak the rats with the anole and put them in alone! If I can get him to eat just the anole soaked rats with out the anole actually being there then that will be fantastic progress and I may just be able to save some of these anoles as pets instead of food ROFL.

      Hey hey! While they will sometimes utilize higher spaces in the wild for various reasons, usually food or basking areas, they are mostly terrestrial, This enclosure was built with that in mind with lots of enrichment so he can explore to his hearts content. Hope that helps!

      Actually nothing alive in such a small space. Just the basking heat dissipation in a big tank for an anole is too much. This is all a stupid idea and one Sat this CZcamsr will be ashamed of himself

      @@GaryAlanCohen so what you're saying is that in nature animals live in isolation in small tanks?..... fact is you don't have a clue about nature. All those animals looked happy and are clearly well looked after - the Mrs is a vet - so if there had been a problem it would ahve been noted - but no problem all eating, pooping, and shedding perfectly. So wind your neck in - no one is asking you do a tank, and nor would they, you clearly don't have a clue about animals. I bet you have a dog... dogs are supposed to be outside hunting and free but you keep in a small space co habitating with humans and cat no doubt maybe even a bird in a small cage....

      @@MightyFineMedia it's the keeping different animals in a small space.. why encourage it? It's not right even trying to keep 1 species happy in a small space. Here you are saying more with a channel with views and... vets should know better

      @@GaryAlanCohen the warning was very loud and clear - do not try this unless you have a lot of experience with reptiles, plus many times repeating how to go about it if you do do it. The point is people are going to do it anyway, so better they learn how and raise awareness for that, than have the ignorant go off and do stupid things - and they really do A LOT of stupid things. So now there is some information that will put many people off doing it, and those that are not put off will think a lot more carefully about consiquences and how they can avoid them. What you should never do is shut down the discussion ever. And actually as more people do it, knowledge improves and people can make better informed decisions and get proper advise.... in 1000 years time - who knows - it may be like cats and dogs being besties... only it will be a viper and mouse....
