    It’s equal parts chilling and sad. Weird that this was a place built specifically for people, and now it’s empty. Kinda sad that workers would’ve spent 100s of man-hours building the facilities for them to rot in the jungle. Eerie because it’s all just left there like time stopped. But would I explore if given the chance? Hell yeah!

    Question: people comment about being banned from Disney. So, let's say I am banned from Disney but I go back a couple of years later. How do they know I was banned to enforce their rules? Do they check id's, have cameras networked into computers with facial recognition systems?

    • @oakpineranch
      @oakpineranch Před 5 lety +56

      Yes Disney has facial recognition. Had it for years.

    • @michaelthompson7217
      @michaelthompson7217 Před 5 lety +67

      they’re only going to be able to identify you if you’re trying to buy a ticket and they run you through the system. You don’t need a ticket to go to one of the resorts and rent a boat for bay lake, which is how I assume he got out there.
      And no Disney might have facial recognition stuff or something (I don’t know) but I know for sure they definitely won’t waste their time using that stuff to find banned people around the parks
      Edit: honestly, remembering my time there, I don’t think they even monitor that much because 90% of the time getting security out somewhere requires a radio call from a cast member

    • @okaymom814
      @okaymom814 Před 5 lety +117

      Hi, ex-ticketing cast member here. Theres no facial recognition. When you get banned they put your name into the system, so if at any point you try to buy a ticket, that name will stop you from purchasing. Thats as much as I know as I have had to call over security for people trying to buy tickets who have been banned before.

    I also got here from Bright Sun Films. I was there in '83. About all I remember now is all the brightly colored birds they had. I was surprised to see that they didn't even take down the nets that kept the birds from flying away. At 20:10 I saw the new Gator/Snake warning signs that tell me Disney people still go there. Now in my early 60's I wouldn't even consider going out there but if I was in my 20's I'd probably do it. Too much rotten wood to fall through or fall on you.

      Although Discovery Island is a very small island, but still, gators don't usually venture so far inland as to take over the whole island. Another reason is, this lake (Bay Lake) is inside Disney property completely surrounded by Disney resorts and other guests areas (at least on two of the three sides), so the gator population is heavily monitored and regulated, so the chances of the gator population getting out of control in the Bay Lake are slim.

    I’ve visited Disney World with my family several times. A few of those times we got to visit the restaurant at the top of the Contemporary Resort to watch fireworks from the rooftop balconies. Every time we went there though, I would always try to look out at Discovery Island from the resort, either from one of the windows in the lobby or the balcony at the top. Discovery Island is probably one of my favorite parts about Disney to be honest, probably sparked from my love for the creepypasta about it. The way it contrasts everything else about Walt Disney World…it sits there on Bay Lake, in the center of pretty much everything…yet there’s no lights…at night it looks as if a massive inkblot were sitting in the middle of the lake. It’s almost like it’s calling out to you…begging you to come to it.
    Will you dare trek on Disney’s forgotten property? What secrets await you? Could the legends be true? It’s up to you to find out.

    Great video.. Should have been named Disney's Shame... How a company that makes billions a year can leave a junkyard in the middle of their flagship theme park is mind-boggling. There isn't an excuse for Disney leaving the aviary net in place. We would hope that Disney as a company would do the right thing and finish cleaning up this island properly. This is proof that Walt's vision died with him in 1966.

No question that elements of DI ended up at AK - Conservation Station, etc. The aviary was amazing, and many of the CMs knew their stuff (like their counterparts at AK).
