- We are very fortunate to be able to collect data of betta cross breeding. In this case, we collect the black mamba betta fish data. This data is very valuable to us and betta lovers worldwide.
We would like to say thank you to the breeders who have shared the data with us.
From this data we learned that it is not easy to create a new color variant of Betta fish. it requires a lot of energy and time.

May I clarify why at Part4: Inbreeding, when the same bloodline cross, it was considered as F0? Shouldnt that be F2? Cause it was after F1 x F1, hope can clarify and understand more 🙏😊
Inbreeding (same colony) is
F0xF0=F1
F1xF1=F1
F2xF2=F1
F1 is no genetic purification process from the ancestors
F2 only from line breeding (F0xF1), in this process genetic purification occurs from the ancestors (F0)

Is cross/ line breeding in fish not the same as mammals? I know with dogs there is some line breeding, but it's typically generations down the line and not a parent-child or siblings. Very informative thanks for sharing.
Yes kristie W, maybe a little different with mammals. In betta fish we are free to choose what we will breed, including to do breeding with their ancestors or siblings. Thank you kristie W happy breeding betta

Scary... a ton of inbreeding
It's okay for two generations or skipping gnerations if the majority is complete and total outbreeding, but buying new bettas is expensive so a lot of people mill them to get to a goal. It's not really good for the people who collect them as pets.
Inbreeding is what is used to "fix" traits in all ornamental fish. If you know what you're doing and have large numbers to select from, it is quite useful and not much of a problem.

HMPK is not seen from the number of ray, but seen from the length of the tail. Generally has 4 to 8 even 16 rays, depending on the character of the tail. :)
