If you're planning on buying one, pay attention to the frame, especially at the rear. It's prone to rotting at the rear struts. Otherwise, it's an excellent vehicle.

Ik22 spark plugs help a bit. They advance the timing slightly so it’s more responsive. A bottle or two of gum out complete tuneup brought back the like new response and performance of my 09 sport

I ended up buying this car (automatic) on Facebook market place just 2 days ago. First car to ever own , it cost me $4.5k since it has some scratches and dents and it’s 95k miles but it still works like a charm!
I’ve been learning how to drive in a Toyota Tacoma 2022 , first car to had ever driven to practice was a cheverlot Silverado 2019 and I’ve even driven a Toyota RAV4. All of the newer year cars, but I definitely wanted to play it super safe and get a decent car as I know I’ll still be learning how to drive in the real world and I’m super glad 2009 honda fit was my first ever purchase ! It’s definitely not high tech which I’m already used to, but the fact it’s my very own car makes me super excited and this video helped me a lot to understand how to use and take care of her !

Nice! Amazing amount of miles and amazing that's all the maintenance that was done (a year ago). I'd love to find this gen. with a manual, but they're very hard to find. I've heard good reviews about the automatic, maybe a bit quieter on the highway so I would get one.

Bought my 2010 fit sport with 88,000 miles for $5700 about a year ago... WAY better as a commuting vehicle than my old 2003 corolla was. On a normal commute to/from college I usually get around 38-45 mpg (really it depends how fast you’re going). Overall this is a very impressive and underrated car, and I’d recommend it to just about anyone 😁

Just got a 2010 Honda Fit Sport with 104,000 miles for $7000. Had a few minor sratches and insignificant dings, one small round one I can pull out with a paintless dent repair. Still feel like it was an incredible value for what I got. Love the practicality as well as the handling of the car. It handles corners with ease even at higher speeds. Threw an HKS hi-power muffler on it just for fun and it's been a blast.

My 09 Sport manual has been amazing over 12 years/122k miles - literally not a single issue. I baby it as daily commuter in CT and it gets 42 mpg - just driver, no junk in it, tires normal 32#, rarely over 65mpg. Headlamps hazed over at 10 years so replaced those. Run AMSoil and doesn’t burn a drop. I’m sooo pleased with this car I hope it keeps going for another 5 years. Paint and trim have held up better than my wife’s ‘13 Kia Rio. Get one if you can one - enjoy!

I have a 2010 sport with 108K miles. Only things I've done besides scheduled maintenance was replace the ac compressor (I live in hot weather) and the passenger door actuator. I also recently ordered replacement headlights for $260 because mine are pretty hazy. But overall it's the best car i've ever owned. I actually owned a 2006 kia rio lol but this thing is so much better.

Meanwhile my moms used 2013 Kia Rio she got with like 40k miles on it, and is now at 80k is nearly immaculate inside and out lol. Then my 2013 Fit which was owned by a dentist and his wife has 47k miles with scratches, paint chips, and dents in some of the weirdest places. Scratch the underside/sides of the door as well with your fingernail, and the paint is easily damaged. Almost burned thru the clear coat as well trying to remove a dealer emblem. That’s when I learned Honda actually has some of the worst paint. I’ve seen too many with sun damage, paint chips, peeling, etc. A good car isn’t without it’s issues though I guess.

Good review. No need to make any excuses for the GE8 my friend, buyers new what they were getting into. Rock solid reliability, lost entry cost, and less to go wrong. It is no Si, and never claimed to be. I have maintained mine well, and it has been a great car for me for the last 110k miles. The same year Civic was more powerful and well appointed, BUT they had some (some serious) repair issues. I have driven mine fairly hard and have suffered no mechanical breakdowns whatsoever. Simple really, I worked in a Honda service department and needed a simple bullet proof econobox. It was very rare to see a 2nd gen Fit in the shop for anything other than normal maintenance so I choose a 2012 Fit auto (because clutches in stop and go driving sucks at my age). I do not regret purchasing it at all. Do I miss my 2009 Si? You bet. But this does just fine. Just change the fluids as required, and the trans fluid every 30k (more often than the maint guide suggests btw) and it will be around for a very long time. A bargain if you ask me. Paid off a long time ago, and still drives great! The SOCH engine uses old simple technology and is a workhorse. Highly recommend this car!

I bought a 2009 Fit\Sport brand new and when it was destroyed by a hit and run rear end accident it had just shy of 350 000 miles. Other than normal wear and tear items...tires, brakes, plugs, oil, etc, normal service items, etc. The only thing we had to replace was the Cruze control switch and the radiator fans...that was it. The Fit was a fantastic car the it never left us stranded. We even drove the car from Florida to Alaska and back. Great car. We will be buying another brand new one once the insurance settles with us.

I got a 2010 sport auto as my first car and I love it. I took my road test in it and passed in NYC thanks to it's compact size and good visibility. I put 11k miles on it so far and the only major issue I had is that my front right axle broke while trying to go up a fairly steep ascent with backseats folded and loaded with 2 student's back-to-college cargo. There is a rubber bushing on the axles and rust tends to accumulate there. Honda has since issued a recall for that (late 2020), so if you end up buying one of these, get those axles replaced immediately! Other than that, it's a great car with amazing practicality. I hauled 4 by 4s from Home Depot and a 8 feet long classroom style table with it once. Granted I had to keep the passenger seat flat and my hatch partly open with bungee cords and the drive was only about 6 miles, but you could never do that with any sedans or other subcompacts. Love Honda.

I'm a Honda loyalist, and I previously had an '85 Accord SE-i (my parents were WAY overgenerous), ''88 CRX-Si, and a '99 Civic EX (all manuals). The Fit has given me the least trouble by far. I'm a cheap bastard and could afford better, but holy crap the money I saved and invested instead. I think I can easily get another 5-6 years out of this, and it's zippy enough I feel like it's totally equal to my old CRX. And so much room!

I'm here to tell you as a 2010 honda fit sport owner with 108K miles.. It's the best combination of reliability and functionality of any car available in the last 20 years. I've had it since the start of 2019 and put 40k miles on it. I paid about $6k for it. The last year I've been putting about 1400 miles a month on it. The only two things I've done besides regular scheduled maintenance are replacing the AC compressor and passenger side door lock actuator. I live in a hot environment. I did swap my head unit for a modern double-din head unit.. which makes it basically a modern car. So basically besides regular maintenance I had to drop about $200. I do maintenance myself so that number would be higher for someone paying for labor. But either way, it's so reliable and affordable. I can fit 3 dogs and a bunch of luggage, or 4 people and 4 golf bags... or 2 fishing float tubes almost fully inflated.. It's ridiculously functional and has more room than my old SUV. And on top of that it gets absurd gas mileage, almost as much as the hybrid I owned, except now I don't have to worry about battery failure.

PROUD owner of my FAVORITE car I’d ever owned; 2018 Honda Fit Sport (3rd generation, GK5).
I was lucky enough to find one brand new at the Honda dealership in December 2017.
Working musician; this thing is, legitimately, like an enclosed pickup truck. Drums, Bass, PA, lights (not *all* at the same time, but still)… NO problems.
Bonus: I also occasionally tow a small trailer… no issues.
Double Bonus: Fun to drive! Love the 6-speed manual transmission (despite the suspension change).
I looked forward to it, I have owned it ever since as the original owner, and I absolutely planned never to ever, ever ever, ever ever ever get rid of it.
    Cheers, all!

Even Scotty Kilmer agrees that the Fit is one of the best small cars you can own. Made me happy because I have a 2010 Sport. I recently drove mine from eastern AZ to Alaska via a few detours. Total distance just over 4000 miles. Average fuel consumption: 35mpg and that is with a Thule rocket box on top. At the moment it has 174k miles on it, has never seen any other services besides oil and filter changes, which I do religiously myself. However, it did have (and still does) some minor quality flaws: The AC on/off button stopped working, so a Haagen Dazs ice cream stick needs to be inserted to keep the AC going. An identical issue befell the Cruise Control switch, which stopped functioning around 170k miles. I have a feeling it will cruise on to 300k miles.

Recently inherited a 2011 Sport with 37,000 miles from dad. He intended to tow it behind his RV and had the towbar bracket installed, tested it for 10 miles and never towed it again. The Fit automatic transmission is rare because you can tow it with all wheels down after following a special start sequence. My other vehicle is a supercab F150 that is reliable but getting old.

Nice review. I actually just bought a 2009 Fit this week before seeing this. Ours is a Sport, manual, with 112k miles and I think we got a great deal at $3,600. It has a couple of small rust bubbles starting but this is Northern Michigan and everything rusts. Price included an extra set of wheels with snow tires.
There are a couple of minor rattles but it was 12 degrees outside when I test drove it. The shifter just reminds me of why Honda always had such a great rep for shifters. It’s like butter.

I'm currently getting 42 mpg.. I'd buy another one in a minute after this one.. one major drawback is it's very low to the ground and it's not good for rough dirt roads.. otherwise recommend it highly to any budget minded buyer.. I am thinking about finding a used Fit for a daily driver, which in my case won't be like it used to be since I am now retired. I anticipate it to be a good local driver when compared to my 1500 Ram. TEST OUT THE AC, Honda's of this era are notorious for bad AC, let it run for awhile and see if anything changes. All dealerships will let you do that usually! Best of luck.

Check all rubber for wear on hoses, belts, tires and the like. Check all fluids, especially engine oil. Look for metal shavings. If there's any metal in the oil, walk away and don't go back. Test drive with the radio off and listen for any rattling or squeaking. Put it on a highway and get it up to about 50 mph/100 kmh. When safe hit the brakes and feel for pull to either side and listen for grinding. A licensed mechanic's once over is always a good move as well.

You want to make sure since your sample was used with over 80k miles on it, that you don't mis-report things that are not the car's fault. Instead of taking my critique or constructive point of observance personally, just take note and respond congenially. Your review was very good and thorough, btw.

It was a certified car that went through an inspection, something might have been off but it didn't feel wrong in the moment. If I could do it again, I'd mention that but there was no way I would know it and it was a minor note at that. I was more annoyed with trying to take my comment of "small cars don't usually handle well" out of context. I was pretty clearly referring to small cars like the Nissan versa, chevy aveo, Toyota yaris, not exotic cars. I'm glad you enjoyed the review but your initial comment came off condescending and a little out of pocket. If you just said "I had a fit and it didn't have any issues returning to center, something might be wrong with that one" then I'd say oh, my bad, it passed an inspection so I assumed it was how it should be, thank you. I can take critique but i think you could have approached me better if that was your intent.
