This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen in a long time. Fixed my identical shop vac!
My. Shop Vac has been doing this for like 5 years. LOL Just watched your video and fixed it within 5 minutes. I broke the little pins on the lever while grinding. I just drilled two small holes a bit closer so the switch is a bit tighter and slid a piece of wire and bent both ends to hold it in. Works awsome now... THANKS!
I just followed your instructions exactly and presto I know have a shop vac that says on. Used if for 20+ minutes with no problems. I have been dealing with the faulty switch for over a year, making my son hold down the button while I vacuum out the car. Thanks for video, we both thank you!
Works like a champ! Thanks!
I wish the video highlighted the switch a bit more. Black channel on black plastic. As of these 6 minutes of Vac time...your fix is great. Cheers for diagnosis too. Thank you
Found one of these and have the same problem and i just stuck a knife on the side of the on switch to make it stay on
To clarify: flip the switch over. Looks for two squares where micro switches made contact. Use any small dremmel bit and sand ABOVE those squares. Beware of the plastic prongs to return rockerswitch. I went about 1/32 deep. Works great.
Hell yeh, thanks man!
I did the dremel routine and the unit indeed stays on now. However, there must be other issues as well. After less than a minute the motor labors, slows down and I get that horrible electrical smell. Took the top cover off and flipped it on and there seems to be a firestorm of white electrical sparks below the armature. Looks like a lightning storm. No play in the top bearing where the metal fan blades are. Any ideas?
