**UPDATE July 15, 2017 - replacement unit suffered the same ISSUEU! DO not buy this garage. XIaomi USA will not replace the unit, citing it is not sold in the US (makes no sense)
**UPDATE JAN 12, 2017:
Upon sending back the defective unit, Yi service center in the US has swiftly sent a replacement.
If your unit is under the 1 year warranty, please contact them.
-- i delayed sending it back because I was away on vacation, they authorized me to send it back within 2 days of sending them an email. Disappointed this had happened but great service.

Less than 4 hours of use and this problem developed. Trouble shoot many things but to no avail.
If you listen with headphones, its only static-y on the left side so i suspect a left sided stereo microphone hardware problem.
Currently contacting Xiaomi regarding warranty. Hope it goes smoothly.
Ese problema lo tuve yo y lo solucionado por casualidad probando a absorber por cada uno de los orificios de los microfonos de la camara. El problema es que creo que la membrana sufre algun tipo de deformacion bien por cambios de presion o mal diseño que hace que dejen de captar sonido o produzca ese ruido. No es broma, dale un buen chupeton en cada orificio y luego graba algun video y escuchalo por auriculares para que puedas apreciar si estan los dos micros funcionando o solo uno de ellos, ve probando hasta que oigas el stereo perfectamente. Espero me informes si te funciono. Saludos.
Wow, this worked for me! Thank you so much luis yo! The right microphone on my camera had static then completely stopped working so I gave it a strong suck on the hole as suggested and it started working again immediately. I don't speak Spanish so lucky I decided to use Google Translate

Raul Dias Fiterman Yes, I put my mouth over each hole next to the power button and sucked. Took a couple of tries, I did short test recordings tapping each hole and playing it back with earphones to see if it worked. Good luck, let me know if I can help any more
I don't know if the microphone came back 100%, but after several attempts i got a great improvement of the audio compared to what was before... continues with a low static noise but is better then before hahaha thank you! Greg and luis yo! THANKS A LOT!
Did you have any luck fixing this static noise issue on the Yi 4K Action Cam? I'm experiencing the same thing.

sorry to hear you have the same issue. no I didnt, but that was because mine was still under warranty. I was about to update the status of this issue too.
I contacted the service department in the US and arranged to ship the item to their service center in Washington state. the same day the item reached them they authorized a new replacement.

Me too i am having the same problem, just 2 month old..this really sucks.
What contact did you use. I bought mine in Canada local computer store and I'm having the same audio problem. Nothing at all just static. And it's less than an hour use.

You can buy the microphone unit on AliExpress, it's a easy swap.
Same problem, replaced once and now same problem again. Static noice on left side. Yi 4k + .
XecVid seems like that failed to fix the issues even on the +. It seems to stem from over heating
Stem? There has Been version changes on yi 4k plus and i got The earliest 13version. There has Been 13,14 and 15. Hoping to get newer revision on replacement (again) :D
i noticed that statics came from the left side, so i opened the cam and removed the left mic, now i can only hear from my left side but sound is crystal clear
After one year my one is the same. Did you solved it? Please let me know rds
Yes I did, I replaced the speaker pcb unit. They are $15-20

I was contemplating opening up the camera and using some of the CZcams videos to guide my search for the problem, maybe you can do that since you have nothing to lose now.
