I am perplexed as to why Battle Tapes isn't getting wide spread radio play. Literally one of the top, best new bands of the last 10 years.
They aren't owned by a record label that pays the corporations that run radio stations to play their signed bands...the music industry isn't run by what's good, it's run by the people with the most money to buy airtime...
Tbh.... And this is gonna sound at a shot at Battle Tapes but it's really not.
They were trying to be a band. That's really not the way to go from about 2015-2022. It was about Spotify plays and exposure, and in turn tik tok and insta reels.
So if you're a band that was still trying to get signed and tour and do all the cliche band things, you were trying to eat at a shrinking trough. That was Battle Tapes.
Let me put it another way, because it's a common problem with modern rock bands. Current edm producers, pop singers, country singers, rappers all had no problem finding a fanbase. Producers embraced SoundCloud and putting up everything they make on yt and interacting with fans. What did most of rock do? Thumb their nose at anyone trying anything different.
It's held the younger talent back in rock, especially more experimental stuff like this. It doesn't allow the cream to rise like every other genre; there is an immense amount of gatekeeping.
And if you talk to old og rockers they don't see this as a problem. It's a genre filled with too much nostalgia, too many kids grew up listening to their dad's music and STILL see marks of success from that perspective. If a band's end goal is to sign a $50k record deal with the label that signed their obscure idols, you'll probably never hear a single one of their songs.
A good comparison, and exception, in rap is Tech N9ne's label. He has avid fans, a bunch of them basically had to compete to sign up with him, and you'll never hear their stuff unless you directly search it out. Because that's a music business model from 2003. There are a few dudes signed to Tech's label that could have been legit stars had they promoted themselves outside of his fandom.
Most rap and pop don't care at all, everything new (good and bad) gets exposure and new stars regularly emerge.
Well, they get exposure in other media, mostly video games, like Asphalt 9, GTA 5 (where they get the most exposure) and The Crew 2, also I believe in TV shows.
I do want them to be more popular, but still - they doing fine, even If they aren't mainstream.

There's no one I find better than Battle Tapes. Surely, I like other bands, but this is just a blend of everything I perfect. I get hints of the lovely rock, the lovely lyrics, the little bits of future in each song..

What a banger of a song! Just played NFS2015 hour ago, and all i can say it's just insane how good this song is
I've been listening to this song ever since it only had 6,000 views, I haven't turned it on in a while and I was pleasantly surprised to see this one, it definitely deserves even more reviews!
I remember listening to Alive back when it had barely 600, and then coming back to it after gen:LOCK went big and feeling just the slightest bit of understanding for hipsters. There was just something attractive about the concept of being somewhere no one else had discovered, and then that feeling was shattered and I couldn't help that slightest twinge of jealousy.
