One thing that Piers brought to my mind is whatever Gym Leaders are legally bound to use Pokémon of their type specialty.
He's already cutting the line loose by not using Dynamax, which basically bring his own (corridor of a) town into being socially ostracized from the rest of Galar.
Maybe it's to symbolise his British Punk rebellious nature.
After all, his sister does use Dynamax but still doesn't complies to mono-typing.

I mean, he can’t dynamax in Spikemouth because it doesn’t have a Dynamax spot. He only refuses to dynamax in the championship battles, and he says it’s to show that he doesn’t need it.

I wouldn’t really count Peirs as an evil team leader, he didn’t even intentionally cause team yell to bringing havoc, plus he helps way more than he hurts in the story. Despite how boringly Rose became evil, he still is the real main villain.

I want to bring up the point that Piers’ Obstagoon has 252 Def and SpD EVs because he doesn’t Dynamax. T’was a way to keep his Obstagoon feeling similarly bulky to the others in Galar

Wouldn't marnie be classed as the team yell leader? Like I know they like piers but the don't do anything for him except in his gym, when they are doing their "evil team" stuff, it's explicitly for marnie.
