There's not a massive number of metal tracks that express so much emotion that it genuinely moves you, but this is one of them. This might genuinely be the most beautiful metal track I ever listened to. I loved it when it came out and I love it to this day.
Fear Factory is by far one of the most creative metal bands out there. Obsolete was such an amazing album . From front to back . One of my favorite songs was freedom or fire..
Funny how nostalgic this is and how modern it sounds. Wonder if FF will have the Pink Floyd effect and have an explosion of interest after their time. They sure as fuck deserve it!
I strongly recommend Mechanize, a master piece, the record where Bell and Cazares reunited and they got Gene Hoglan as drummer, I dont need a "pink Floy effect" I enjoy this mf now and been listening since Soul of a new machine, enjoy as well that masterpiece
Ricardo Galvez Iv'e enjoyed it since the very day i saw them live with Type O Negative 20 years ago. I still wish them legendary status, because they deserve it, they are ahead of their time the same way Floyd was. I don't NEED it either, i enjoy them regardless.
Gbrlsho Seriously! I hear so many people telling me i just got old... fuck that! No dude. There is less talent today then there was even 10 years ago! When was the last GREAT arena rock/metal band? Who remembers when Van Halen blew everyones mind? Or when Pantera brought back the metal scene? Where are the larger than life rock stars? Where are the new emerging bands playing for 300,000 rabid fans? Everything is short cut now. I have to say, the internet is most likely responsible for what i call "fast food music" they just bust out with whatever stupid pre-mixed bs they can and sell it. Modern day pop music is a fucking cancer!
Cool! 😎 Im a single, 47 yo autistic Buddhist philosopher! Obviously Resurrection isn't prominent in my religion - but I love this song! I did study Catholicism in undergrad btw - I'm interested in all the major religions.
I love this song too! My religion is Jesus and God. I talk through Jesus to God to get my Devine guidance. You shouldn't let mankind label your beliefs with man made religions. Spend time with Jesus instead of worrying what group you belong to and you will see a great difference. Also I could never be part of a group that has priests getting caught every other week molesting the children in the church.
When I was overseas doing crazy crap, when I had a moment to myself, I would lay in my bunk, put on my headphones, max the volume, and listen to this album (this song in particular) focusing on each part of the music. It was like a form of meditation. I truly believe that I came out of that shit much better off mentally than a lot of other guys as a direct result of doing that. Long Live Fear Factory!
I was a Husky operator for 15 months and when I'd return from long missions and another base I would turn on my cool speaker and just rock out and my platoon Sergeant told everyone in the building to just " let me decompress " and to just " deal with my metal music ". Platoon Sergeant Showers was the absolute bomb!!!
28 dec 2011 the day I started getting clean, 17 years of drug addiction that had finished on opioids, been clean since I played this song over and over, it became clarity in my nightmares

Jason Pate Not really. Funny enough, Digimortal, admitted by Burton, was very influenced by The Matrix. He didn't release the concept because he said he realized it was too much like The Matrix.
Nem33 Bro, check your facts before you make comments. This song is on the "Obsolete" album, released on June 28th, 1998. An album i got the day it came out. The Matrix came out March 31st, 1999. I saw it in the theatre on opening night. The similarities are striking between these 2 artistic works, both taking on a very Orwellian "1984" kind of feel to them. The directors/writers/producers of the Matrix created a work of art with Metal music as the underlining current. Even thr plot of "The Matrix" has themes very similar to the story line of "Obsolete" (a concept album), there's only one man who can successfully defeat the machines to retake control over a world gone terribly wrong. Im not saying.... Im just saying...
Thank you FF for making this amazing record. Rediscovering all of your music has relit the flame in me when I was giving up and about to say goodbye to everything . I've been in a void the last month. This song still makes me tear up the same as it did when it came out. This album was such a masterpiece and this song was the magnum opus. All the feels pain and frustration and the bleak light of hope at the end of the tunnel. You guys have done God's work without even knowing it. You guys got me back in the gym and got me fighting and raging against the dying of the light of today's society. The world is so bleak right now and the world needs this more than ever. We re sinking with no anthem for hope
I love so many Fear Factory songs, but I'd have to say this has always been my favorite, especially hearing it live in concert. Moving. Powerful. Beautiful. One of their best. 🙌
Indeed! Demanufacture is a highly underrated album btw. Everytime I go back to listen to that one it still sounds better & more complex than anything coming out today. Especially the song Replica.
Consumed with memories that proceded to die. Burton's vocals are on another level. Metal is full of incredible vocalists, but the way Burton switches seamlessly from those mesmerizing cleans to that deep , powerful yell/ scream....he has no equal.
The older I get the more this band grows on me. Which is cool. Because its the exact opposite of what usually happens. Also their songs have great replay ability. They don't get old.
Oh shit I didn't know F.F. made a video for this song!!!!!!!! Holy Shit I am so stoked...... This singer can totally out do Erin Lewis from Stained... As a matter of fact, Erin Lewis and Staind isn't not even in the same league as Fear Factory. This song is one of only a few and I mean a few which means only 2-3 songs of all time in the metal world that can bring me to tears and make the hair on my arms and neck stand up.... Anyway peace out my fellow fans.
fear factory for ever .....anything that changes someones life the way this band did deserves recognition untill the end of time...times may have changed but my absolute admiration for this music will never dir.....metel for ever....
the ending, 3:42, so powerful. get goosebumps every single time i listen to it... burton is an amazing signer. since i saw them in 95 for the demanufacture tour, i've been hooked. can't wait for their next album.
Burton is my complete favorite singer of all time. People often accuse him of singing off-key, especially on the demanufacture album, but all I hear is the beautiful masterpiece of emotion he presented. Obsolete will always have my three favorite songs by them; Descent, Resurrection, Timelessness... but no matter what... Fear Factory will always be my favorite band of all time. LONG LIVE FF!!!! :3
Kamyl Wilson His clean vocals are always awsome on CD but he struggles live sometimes but as you say its the raw emotion he projects its awesome. I love my heavy stuff but I'm a sucker for a ballad (well if you can call timlesness from obsolete a ballad and Final Exit from Mechanized ballads) love the vocals on timlessness
Jamie Ross I try not to hound him too much for his live vocals. Dino always plays live in the same tuning, so when they play a song like Mechanize (Normally in F Tuning) in a higher Tuning; his cleans have to go higher. Which, isn't completely his fault even if he struggles with hitting them.
It is sooooo damn awesome!! I agree torque and hell ya Stickshift! And Kamyl i agree, one of my favorite singers of all time....Burton is unbelievable!
That concept of having to pay for fresh air at a booth has been stuck in my head for years, since I first saw it in the nineties. These guys were Indeed way ahead. And if this album was released in today's Era, it would definetly still be groundbreaking. Such damn artistry.

My dad loves sabbath and purple, but hates any metal from metallica onwards and always laughs at it, "death, hell, rooor" etc. This song however blew him away.
I heard this when I was 14 in 2004 on a burned cd from my friend! But didn't have the names or titles.. Years later remembered the lyrics and boom found this. I probably replayed this song 500 times on my portable cd player. Burned thru countless batteries! Man I love this song it has every thing
This might be my favorite all-time song. I have been listening to music for 40+ years, yet this song continues to haunt me, to follow me, to torment me, but I will never leave it, nor will it leave me
I'd completely forgotten about this metal classic, which was part of my regular song rotation 23 years ago. It randomly came up in my playlist tonight and it has been restored to my song rotation, never to leave again. Thanks for the awesome, touching tune, FF. Revive all my fears Revive wasted tears Revive void within Revive once again Again, again, again Reach for the sky Touch the sky Revive a hope For mankind
Pretty sure I found FF via a Metal Hammer CD Roadrunner showcase involving this song. One of the best teenage discoveries I had. Honestly, I never delved too deep into this band but 'Resurrection', as well as 'Linchpin' always stayed with me. Those two in particular are genuine metal classics. In a genre often swamped with negativity - belying Black Sabbath's path - Fear Factory harnessed darker emotions with the prospect of something better after the catharsis of metal.
Brings me back terrible memories from last February. I listened to this between the little 2 minutes of break time before I shit all my guts out. Ugh. Got me through the 2 days of stomach pain and suffering. Sorry if this disgusted anyone but how much suffering I go through when it comes to my stomach is just straight hell

i agree totally
Meshuggah's Straws Pulled At Random and Godflesh's Love Is A Drug From Hell are other similar ones for me.
Same. Nothig can touch what this band's "ballads" have done. Even Genexus and the whole Blade Runner theme is just.. devastatingly emotional.
Couldn't agree more. Love this track 👍
I was just thinking the same thing as I listened, before reading this 100% accurate comment.
'Reach for the sky, touch the sky. Revive a hope for mankind' was probably the most optimistic and epic lyrics they ever wrote.
ABSOFUCKINGLUTLY!!!!!!!!!
Not just the lyrics, the way they’re expressed. Hope and passion intensely delivered.

This is my favourite FF song. I was gutted they didn't play it live.
The long version is better
Still helping me to get through my angst, even at 37. Thank you FF ❤
Best industrial metal band EVER!!!
The best concert...I've been..wa Perth these..r lyrics
This track is so spiritual.
Ever time I hear this song I time travel back to 2009 when i was 3 and i wouldn't stop listening to this band I have the coolest parents
what a song, great album - it was the album i listened to all through 1999.
Greatest song by the greatest band. Enough said.
Lyrics :
Consumed with memories that preceded today
Given a chance to bereave life that's slipping away
Suffered through tragedy of my slow decay
Deceptive tendencies dragged my soul away
All that I know is there was no God for me
Force that shatters all, absence of mortality
Revive all my fears
Revive wasted tears
Revive void within
Revive once again...
Forsaken by destiny, forsaken by my own mind
I must remove my skin to see belief in your eyes
All that I know is there was no God for me
Force that shatters all, absence of humanity
Revive all my fears
Revive wasted tears
Revive void within
Revive once again...
Reach for the sky
Touch the sky
Revive a hope
For mankind
Song gives me shivers.
Blew all my money in the year 2000 on CDs all the time.
