      Highschool Hegel is a horrendous reductionism, personally I was taught that whole Hegelian idea is Thesis-Antithesis into Synthesis, which is not even Hegelian it is Fichtean analysis of Hegel

      @@mefistowski5292Makin high schoolers or anyone at all for that matter read the Phenomenology of Spirit is actually torture. That text is basically exactly what people make fun of when they are mocking philosophy. It has got to be one of the most ridiculously indecipherable texts in the whole western tradition.

      Depends on the novel I suppose, if you mean some og classics like the Crane Iron pentalogy (the one Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is based on) then yeah your prolly still a snob. If its whatever the most recent trash that's been shoveled out of China/Korea then its not snobbish at all.

    • @willfoltz
      @willfoltz Před rokem +4

      @@gregathol Its basically a much older Wuxia series, and possibly the progenitor of much of the more derivative material you see today (it was written in 1940). As I said one of the novels (the fourth one oddly) was the source for the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Though to my knowledge there are no formal translations for them, so you have to track down fan translations... or learn how to read Chinese lol. Reading the summary of A Thousand Li it sounds pretty much like every other wuxia light novel you see these days. I would personally recommend "Coiling Dragon" if you are into the genre, as its pretty solid and also completed. Additionally, you can actually buy physical translations of it, if you are so inclined.

    Tangentially: People who don't fully comprehend why book-burning is bad and think it's because the physical form of a book is sacred regardless of what's in it, and any defacement for any reason is unacceptable. Oh No, someone made a collage that involved some pages cut out of a third-hand copy of Infinite Jest. There's now one fewer of the millions of copies printed of that book.
    It's like some people see books as a Smartness Totem rather than media.
