The Culdee Fell Railway Theme - An S.A Original

Here's my take on what would be a Series 5-ish theme for these engines, I was instructed to get some inspiration from some Swedish Folk music which is why I used a more 'reedy' lead and waltzy time signature (3/16 in this case).
The little motif at the start is what I have wrote to be the signature motif for these engines, non canonically of course haha.

Before you decide to skip this comment as it usually gets brushed over, let’s be honest here.
While I know a lot of you enjoy the recreations of O'Donnell and Campbell's legendary work for TTTE. I'd also really appreciate if you'd take a look at music I've written too. I'm looking to experiment and expand as a composer to test my range and ideas, the Thomas stuff is nostalgic and everything but the original works is what I really enjoy to work with. Still on the 80s wave at the moment as there are some sounds I still want to tackle. Here’s a playlist of all the 80s and 90s stuff. I’ve arranged them similar to how they are on SoundCloud. Enjoy!

Old synthesizers of the 70s-80s have a unique energy to them for sure
This does feels like if the TV Series crew had adapted Mountain Engines in Series 4.
Imagine if they made it an extension to the Skarloey Railway.
Culdee Fell was never incorporated into the TV series as well as mention the fact that it was also Sodar's biggest mountain 🏔️ range! 1:02

@@jamesfracasse8178Yeah, though I guess they didn't have the budget, they already couldn't make a Thin Controller model at the time, so they merged him and Sir Topham Hatt into one character. And I guess they would've found the two faced engines creepy.
This theme has a very Germanic feel to it, almost like accordions being played, along with giving the feeling of being in the clouds above, soaring over mountaintops.
On top of that, it feels very much like actual Thomas music.
I’m gonna be honest, this is the best interpretation of a TV Series Culdee Fell Railway theme I’ve heard it. Very fitting for the railway and its engines.
Considering the Culdee Fell Railway Engines and equipment were made in Switzerland, it fits nicely.
Many people have made original theme surrounding the Culdee fell Railway. From the one made by Carson, to the one made by upside now. There's definitely been a few of them and yours doesn't fail to impress and of course I love the bit of accordion as it gives it that Switzerland feel from where they were built. Keep up the good work Ty.

If the series ever gets back to its roots, they should definitely hire you for the music! You deserve more credit for every piece of music that you do!

“A mountain railway?!” Sir Handel said incredulously. “There’s no such thing! How would an engine climb such a steep incline?!”
“Only if he was built for it!” a voice said.
Donald was pulling the strange little engine who joined Sir Handel and Rheneas’s conversation. “This here is Culdee,” Douglas said, “he be a wee little engine from yon high hills of the Culdee Fell Mountains.”
“Hullo there,” said Culdee in a gentle voice, “you must be those narrow gauge engines I’ve heard so much about.”
“Do you really work in the mountains?” asked Sir Handel.
“I wouldn’t have been built as I was if I didn’t,” Culdee answered. “Look closer!”
Sir Handel inched up to Culdee to see how he was made. He wasn’t like any engine he’d ever seen. He had a sloped boiler, a big funnel like Peter Sam, and a pair of wheels that looked like they had teeth.
“I see you’ve got steamroller wheels,” Sir Handel said, “bet you’re the talk of your line.”
“These aren’t “steamroller” wheels, lad, they’re traction wheels. They help me to climb the mountain rails. In fact, this reminds me of when I was young…”

I always did like the mountain engines stories. I even had an ERTL Culdee. I didn't have the ERTL tracks, but did use Hotwheels tracks instead along with a helix shaped loop ti loop. That was Henry's tunnel.

In a good way this sounds like the kind of music you'd here in the background of a European travel documentary/travel show you'd see that was made by a public broadcast station.
A beautiful theme! If "Mountain Engines" had been adapted in the classic series, it would have been breathtaking to watch. This theme fits the Culdee Fell Railway perfectly, with its engines gently traversing the steep gradients to bring travelers to the Island's highest point.
The "Funiculi Funicula" adaptation fits the Culdee Fell Railway as well!
Too bad the difficulty of operating the Skarloey Railway in O scale and their lack of story potential hindered this happening.
This really does feel like it belongs in Campbell and O'Donnell's own version of "The Sound of Music". I only have to listen to it, and I think "The hills are alive with the sound of Mountain Engines".

Very well done! It has that quaint feel of the Skarloey Railway, but with its own vibe. Someday I might commission you to write a theme for when James took the Flying Kipper in "Sliding Scales", and a Devils Back theme for the Culdee Fell Railway. Keep up the fantastic work!

I like the theory that the Culdee Fell engines were to appear in Series 5 (evidence being that the crew made giant mountains which were later used for the large scale Skarloey engines). It's an interesting AU sort of idea, and this theme makes it feel more real, if that makes sense. Great work on this theme!
I seriously doubt that theory. Those mountains were almost certainly made for the large-scale Skarloey Railway engines - which of course needed scaled-up scenery - from the start.
There are multiple problems with the theory:
* The large-scale Skarloey Railway engines were top priority for new model construction, because the originals proved an endless parade of technical difficulties (depth-of-field problems, the kitbashed siderods binding, eye servos being temperamental (not to mention limited and requiring an external battery)...)
* Series 5 was when the show started moving strongly away from book-based stories
* The Culdee Fell Railway was rather limited in story potential, so it would likely have been an offputting investment.
I also suspect that having eye servos for both the back and front faces would have been a nuisance even if they'd been on the table.

It feels like in skarloey the brave in Season 9.
If David Mitton and the original crew had stayed on the model series until the switch over to CGI, then I think that they would have introduced the railway in series 8 and do some stories such as Culdee and Catherine visiting The Fat Controller's railway and telling stories in front of a lot of people at Tidmouth Sheds about Godred being an ass.
We never actually got to see the Culdee Fell Railway in any media outside of the Railway series, it's nice to hear that we're giving it the attention it deserves.
Incorrect. It showed up in multiple magazine stories, and some of the characters used to have hidden bios on the Thomas official website.

If I were the Thomas crew from back in the day, if I ever wanted to incorporate that famous story we can all remember, I would make it less dark and instead of Culdee dying, he instead was sent away to Britain to be mended and brought back aboard a standard gauge engine with all of his friends celebrating a welcome home party.
I feel like it's similar to Boomer's theme from TUGS.

I would have liked to have seen the Culdee fell railway series 4 of the tv series, but the models and sets would have been too expensive to make!
I can picture the kids in Shining Time Station being shocked after Mr. Conductor tells the story of Godred, and they ask if the story was really made up!

You're a real big fan of of post-Season 4 music, aren't you? Frankly, I feel like any musical styles from Season 5 on do *not* fit with anything from the Railway Series itself. After all, with the exception of the small engines, nothing else from the Railway Series is present from Season 5 onwards. At least, as far as I know. I stopped trying to watch that after the ridiculous story "Thomas the Jet Engine." Seriously, that story was nothing more than an excuse to include the William Tell Overture, probably in an attempt to make up for how lackluster the other music was.
