Thank you,

So, you both have become master fiber glass experts through trial and error. Lol
“I love the smell of epoxy in the afternoon” - sorry I couldn’t resist 😊
One thing for certain , you`ll forget all about this when you have the wind in your sails and sun on the horizon. (bevy in hand ; )
We hope so.
Everything in life is temporary...
Cheers for watching 😃
boat is looking good guys,
Hi Guys. Can you not cut slots for the watertank outlets in the rib on the watertank outlet side to increase space? It is going to be very tight once you fibreglass those other ribs in. Just a though. I don't have boat knowledge. Just love watching your channel. Cheers!
Not sure if y’all have any internet access. And if you watch any other channels on boat refitting. You might check out Sailing Uma on their refitting which they are doing now. You might figure out some things that maybe helpful to ya’ll. Keep up the good job. Thanks for your continued channel. ❤
“Nice and peaceful.” Yes! So true. That gorgeous Christmas sunrise provided the perfect ending to your video…and the sound of the water, gently lapping on the shore…just heaven. Thank you, Seabird folks. 😎💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕🥰🥰😎
Keep up the good work guys absolutely love the content & the way you work together. All the best in 2024👍💛🚀
This was a fun episode. I enjoy your videos and I loved the sunrise. The boat is starting to feel organized. I am in the middle of renovating an old house and it looks like your boat. There is no room for anything arrrrgh. Bravo ciao
You know ... I never knew that the bottom of the bilge was detached like that ... I'll bet that is how all of the water found its way into the keel. All those years of rainwater making it's way to the bilge without a bilge pump to remove it while it was sitting abandoned -- once the fiberglass detached, it gave the water a path out of the interior, unfortunately it found its way into the keel!!! i remember thinking during your first video of the boat ... well at least the interior wasn't a lake --- Now we know why!!!
Hello team Seabird. Just want to wish you all the very best for 2024. Keep up the good work. Look forward to seeing Seabird in the water with the wind in her sails this coming year. ❤❤❤
Good idea rotating the tanks , future selves will thank you the more accessible you make things 😃🍻
Very true!
We hope to be able to remove the water tanks at any point. Just the fuel tank will be in place for years to come...
Cheers for watching 😃
That's an expensive bag (Billingham) holding down that fibreglass panel. Nevertheless, good interesting progress, especially in Winter.
Enjoying the videos!
Glad to hear it!
Cheers for watching 😃
Have a great start to 2024!
Have a great year!
Cheers for watching 😃
🇨🇦🙂
Love you accent lady
You and stew work together so well! I used expanding two part foam for the tanks.
Thank you for sharing the story so far always entertaining, beautiful sunrise 🌅 happy Christmas to you both 😊
Your ride/walk through the wetlands at dawn was magical, we saw just enough of the birds to get the feel. That is my favourite time of day on the boat.
As to words for what the "snot" does (a common word for thickened epoxy or even fiberglass in general), the technology is new enough you can use any words you like because there are no words to remember from the mists of time when the north men went a viking. Ooze out, squeeze, whatever you like. Make up your own words even.
those mounts must cost a small fortune. it always amazes me how expensive they are for a lump of rubber with some sheet metal attached to it
Oh the tanks look very good; !!
Thanks 👍
i just really enjoy the two of you .
Merry Cristmas end a happy new year
Same to you, have a wonderful 2024.
Cheers for watching 😃
What a beautiful sunset at end i hope you had a good Christmas and a happy new year 😊😊😊
Hello South France
Wish you a succesfull project.
Thank yu for sharing this great
Adventure .
Hv nice time .
All the best👍
Have you thought of removing the water tank fittings, reversing the tanks as you said then using a hole saw to cut access holes and putting the elbows back in through the rib. That way you will always have access to the hose fittings.
This is exactly what I was picturing; attaching the fittings to the tank through the floor support.
Thank you guys, your smashing it,all the very best for 2024
Wow who knew a group of flamingos was a flamboyance, other than watching and learning each week how you fixing your boat ...Stew taught me a new big word for flamingos 😜😜😜👍....thanks for a great channel all the way from South Africa ..
Merry Christmas yall
Beautiful camera-takes, very nice ❤ happy new year
Happy New Year!
Marina is the video whizz.
Cheers for watching 😃
Hi
Hope you had a lovely Christmas and wishing you both a very happy New year.
In relation to the position of the water tanks. Could you drill two holes in the "stringer" the size of the outlet then fix a straight pipe to the outlet, through the stringer, connect the elbows to the straight pipe on the other side of the stringer. This would give you the extra wiggle room you need.
Love the videos 😀👍
Good idea.
Not really sure how it's going to work out, that's the fun of it.
Happy New Year's
Cheers for watching 😃
Not side to side. Front to back.
Very expensive buggers them! Happy nearly new year guys.
Cheers guys,! And happy new year’s
those engine mounts look sexy xD merry xmas, happy new year, wish u all the best fer 2024 :)
Best to you both in the coming year.🎉🎉😊
Happy new year!!
Cheers for watching 😃
Wow imagine what you started with and now you have progressed so much congrats!
Guys I know you it's slow going but you're getting there good work! Cheers n beers Marty Australia
Happy New Year! Looking forward to seeing Seabird take to the water in 2024!
Happy New Year!
Hopefully...
Cheers for watching 😃
That triangle will be the strongest bit of the whole deck.
Well done and happy new year feom Australia.
All the best for the new year - looking gorward to seeing your progress in 2024.
When you are complaining about all the balsa sandwich repairs just remember that Mark’s boat is all sandwich!😳😑. He’s a brave lad!
Whata wonderful way to spend Christmas morning! Happy new year to you both.
Cheers guys, 😊
Great job you both ! Congrats !
Thanks!
"That's what she said" 🤣🤣🤣
Cheers for watching 😃
Well done! I enjoyed the DIY and also the beautiful seascape at the end.
Thank you! 😊
Cheers again for watching 😃
Merry Christmas and Happy new Year
all the best in the new year guys.
So when I've done deck repairs - and I've done more than my share - I try to remove the top level of fiberglass in one piece, replace the core and then replace the top layer of fiberglass that I cut out. Then I grind around the thin cut line on both sides to prepare for new glass to tie the patched area to the rest of the deck - that is I grind both sides of the seam after the removed deck has been replaced. It looks to me that you are grinding beyond the area of your patch before replacing the removed decking. This means that you need to fill a very large area with epoxy before laying in the tyeing layers of glass. This looks very costly in terms of epoxy and time. Hope that all makes sense.
I miss that beach.....many happy hours there, great idea to endith that gorgeous Camarrgue sunset...
Glad you enjoyed it! It is a pretty cool beach. So long there’s always a spot where you can be alone 😊👍🏼 Did you use to have about boat around here?
Hi. Happy Christmas and Happy New Year. Yes, you are doing the bilge repair correctly. Carry on as you are! I said before that this is where the water in the keel came from and now you are fixing it. Well done. Don't agonize too much about filling the voids in the keel; the ballast isn't going anywhere! The new tanks look great but you are definitely going to need more than 200 litres of water when cruising. Sorry, I have no experience of using flexible tanks; I'm just another " grotty yachty" with a load of Jerry cans along my toerail! Good luck.
I think you should go with a Flexi water tank if it is cheaper.. If you get a water maker in the future, then you can put it there and get rid of the Flexi tank.
How about plugging the holes of the existing outlets on the water tanks and drill new ones on the underside or sides?
Hope you both had a great Christmas. I admire your dedication to the project and look forward to seeing how you get on in the Year have a good one PS nothing done on the wild weasel this week rudder still half done. Kev in Devon
Seriously you two, for someone who thinks they have no idea what they are doing you are doing amazing work and this is going wonderfully well!!! You can’t expect to get everything right, even with experience. If you haven’t already thought about it (and I confess that I’m commenting before watching the full video) there’s no reason why you can’t cut some holes in that floor forward of the water tanks for the pipework, the floor itself will still be strong enough - think “Ben Lexcen” lightening Australia II for the Americas cup, he cut holes in everything. In regards flexi tanks, I’m not a fan but plenty of people have them. In my experience every boat that I’ve been on that has had them they have failed - they tend to wear through and leak after a while because they roll around under the weight of water regardless of how full they are and they rub on the hull and anything that they sit against. I’ve seen some people line the hull and everything around the tank with soft rubber or outdoor carpet and that may help.
Merry Christmas & happy new year. Looks like things are progressing nicely. Keep up the good work. SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿
Who needs measurements, it's all eye eye captain 😂
Hi guys. Everything OK? You could also drill holes in the bulkhead for the fitting. That's how some manufacturers do it. Maybe you have to adjust the fittings in the tanks for a bit. It will be a lot easier to get the hoses on or off.. You could also close the existing fitting and put new ones on top... By doing that you can create a whole lot more space for the bulkhead of the engine room.
Happy new year guys, Christof
love your company every week look forward to spending my Saturday morning watching your work, keep them coming Merry Christmas and a happy new year
Be very careful on slippery decks!
Yeah 😅 Looking forward to putting the KiwiGrip on
Wishing you both a very happy New Year, and may Seabird be ready to sail in 2024 ❤ lots of love and blessings!
cats are love
Happy New Year to both of you and Seabird! May it bring even more joy, success and fulfilment. Thank you for sharing that stunningly beautiful Christmas sunrise with us. What a lovely part of the world on your doorstep, as it were.
Another 👍 video.. I appreciate your hard work and dedication to bringing me along on your wonderful journey. I used to drive semi truck over the road and have seen many sunrises and everyone is a beautiful thing. Hope you and Stew have a great New Year's holiday.. I think what really makes your content special is that you 2 are always yourselves and not putting on an act for views or likes.
...And a Happy and productive 2024. Keep smiling and filming, all the best my
Many thanks, same to you.
Cheers for watching 😃
Thanks for another great episode guys. Good progress! Seasons greetings😊
If by Flexi tank you mean bladder. The sail brothers have been cruising for 2 years and are now in NZ. I guess they can't be that bad.
Hopefully you know about this, but if any of these tanks are fuel tanks, you should allow some space for expansion of the tanks. You can get the details from the manufacturers, but fuel tanks should allow for expansion. I can't recall the percentage, but it is a factor.
Marina and Stuart, a very interesting episode. Wishing you both the a very Happy New Year and all the best in 2024!🥂
Have you guys thought about just building your own water tanks?
Yeah... this area in the bilge over the keel was always the biggest concern overall! I get the 'feel' that further, deeper investigation will now be required guys! Bit of expert advice perhaps... does look like you will need to go deeper shipmates... find out WTF is going on down there innit? Crack on guys!
In the Chinese Calander, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon..... that's my sign too - specifically the Water Dragon, perhaps why I love what you're doing!
Bearing the Dragon in mind, I wish you all a roaring success in 2024 in everything you do.
May 2024 bring you all the very best of health, wealth and happiness.
We are so impressed with your commitment to the project, continuing to work in freezing temperatures even at Christmas when many would have decided to take time out. You certainly deserve all the success and happiness that will come your way and I look forward to see you both sailing away into the sunset very soon!!!
Best wishes
John
P.S. The daybreak was amazing - many thanks.
Think about all the hours you spent trying to dry the keel, drilling holes and vacuuming and all the time you had easy access from the top. All the best for the New Year.
magnifico el puzzle con epoxi sois unos genios Felices Fiestas 🍾🎂🏆
Get someone to tighten the halyards😂
It's amazing how some people leave their boats.
A few people do go and tighten banging halyards.
Cheers for watching 😃
Weird, isn't it? Things tend to freeze during winter times ........ Have a very happy, fruitful and good new year! All the best! Greets . H
Same to you!
Cheers for watching 😃
Great weather for you. If it’s only wind you have to deal with!
I like the idea of flexy tanks as you can make sure the space is well lined with some thin rubber or foam to protect the tank. If they ever need replacing it will be easy too.
FYI remember the old fiberglass tanks were part of the floor/hull structure so the new floors are important for strength.
Love what your doing, and great beach Christmas!!!
Ps I have trouble with the French Amazon site from usa
Cheers Warren
A very Happy New Year to you both, kind regards.
Happy New Year to both of you!!!
greetsz from holland...max...😉
😊💛💙
Hope you both have a great and productive new year, or as Stu would say "hope for the best,"
Oozing!!
Happy New Year!
Brilliant episode! Loved seeing the sun rise on the other side of the world from us here in NZ. Best wishes to you both for this Christmas season and the year ahead
Seasons greetings to you and I have a question/suggestion. It’s likely there’s a good reason why this can’t be done but - here goes. Why not remove the water tank elbows and extend straight piles through the “rib” then make your connections the other side where you have more space to do what you want with them. 🤷🏼
Are the birds herons or flamingos? Avoid the flexi water tanks if possible. They leak so easily and then are useless. Merry Christmas 🎄
Happy new year to you both. A wonderful sunrise. We are blessed here with them and sunsets too. The colours are spectacular. I admire your perseverance, attitude and admire what you are doing. We spent many years rebuilding a ruined cottage which we now live in and working full time too.
Happy New Year both ....
Fabulous, the photography is breath taking. Your both so fortunate to have found this truly beautiful yard. Wishing you both a Happy New year!
Your sò lucky happy new year
Happy new year 🥳
I hope that you both had a happy Christmas and that the New Year is a prosperous one. xx Another great video BTW.
The new aft rib can be inset over the engine bearers to save your 10mm and the fittings at the forward rib can be let through the rib, the rib top edge being reinforced with wood or metal. Flexitank compartments must be strong as the tank gives no support but also smooth and evenly formed as near to the shape as possible ............and now this is how to suck eggs lol.
Glad you had a nice Christmas… have a very Happy New Year too🎉
Thanks Peter! Likewise 😊
We have that work problem! If your catted tou you have stay there to cat moves
Bonne année et bonne chance à tous les niveaux 🫂👁️🍀👁️🌍
Merci beaucoup! 😊 Également
This comment is probably to late as the next video is due soon and the time has passed, but don’t forget the few mm of fibreglass that will be added to each of those wooden frames in between those tanks. It was a tight fit dry. It may be too tight with fibreglass. Perhaps lead the water tank pipes through the forward frame to give you more space.
Great point and it's been on our minds.
We'll place one at a time, making sure the tanks fit in.
Cheers for watching 😃
Excellent, looking forward to next year's adventures, thanks 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy New Year to you from Oklahoma! Keep the videos coming.
Happy new year to you, i wish you all the best. great job already done ..
As you were puzzling with those 3 tanks, the fittings on the water tank appears to be a very tight fit, or it might be even touching the rib you've put in. I'm just thinking that if you get those plastic tanks filled up with water will they not warp a bit and push those fittings out even more, and can you secure it down that it doesn't move under rough weather as well ? I'm just thinking that maybe it would make sense to run the fittings through the new rib you've put in place ? I don't think a few holes would comprimise them too much, and you're looking to put in an additional one between the water and the diesel tank anyway ?
