The Complete British Airways 747 Fleet. March 2020.

  • With the skies being empty of aircraft due to the worldwide "lock in" caused by COVID-19 and the likely global recession after this pandemic is over, it seems quite probable that British Airways will accelerate the retirement of their 31 Boeing 747s left in the fleet .
So this is a good time, especially with so many of us having to remain in our homes, to sit back and enjoy this 45 minute film recording EVERY one of the 31 "active" 747s that were flying with BA until the worldwide fleet grounding.
So here, in delivery date order are:
    G-BNLY
    G-CIVA
    G-CIVB
    G-CIVC
    G-CIVD
    G-CIVE
    G-CIVF
    G-CIVH
    G-CIVI
    G-CIVJ
    G-CIVK
    G-CIVL
    G-CIVN
    G-CIVO
    G-CIVP
    G-CIVR
    G-CIVS
    G-CIVT
    G-CIVU
    G-CIVV
    G-CIVW
    G-CIVX
    G-CIVY
    G-CIVZ
    G-BYGA
    G-BYGB
    G-BYGC
    G-BYGD
    G-BYGE
    G-BYGF
    G-BYGG
Filmed over the last 2 years, with Air Traffic Comms plus written commentary (never spoken!) where helpful at the following locations around Heathrow:
    Runway 27 Right Departures
    Runway 27 Right Rotation point
    Runway 27 Right arrivals/ landing
    Runway 09R Rotation point
Runway 27 Left arrivals / landing
    Runway 27 Left Rotation point
The eagle eyed among you will notice that I've not included in the list above:
    G-CIVG
    G-CIVM
    G-CIVQ
That's because VG and VM have already been retired - see the separate films on my "Heathrow aircraft-past and present" channel - and there never was a VQ aircraft registered!
So put your feet up and soak up the sights and sounds of the "Queen of the skies" in all her glory before she is gone from us forever.

I say I wouldn’t do it because of COVID-19 because you gotta remember that basically every airline is suffering because of the pandemic, and it would be a huge loss for my hypothetical airline to spend billions buying some outdated aircraft in a time period where efficiency is favoured over older and sadly more iconic planes.

Why can’t they just put more fuel efficient engines onto a 747-400. This coronavirus has really made a complete mess of the transport industry and it’s awful these beautiful machines are now being thrown on the scrap heap because of it. Such a sad sight to see!

    • @MarEpor
      @MarEpor Před 4 lety

although i agree with you, its not just the engines that lead to the retirement, since these aircrafts are already becoming old and these aircrafts have a massive capacity yet there isnt a demand to travel in large quantities due to covid, most airlines dont find a need to operate them during this time.

Heathrow Aircraft - past and present. I think most of them are in Frankfurt, but also some of them in the new airport in Berlin. On another note the 19 747-8’s they have will definitely survive this crisis(newer than their A330, A340-600, A340-300, A330-300 and 747-400’s), and I don’t think LH will retire their 13 747-400’s until their 777-9x’s get delivered but who knows.
