BRITISH AIRWAYS BEA RETRO LIVERY A319 RETURNS TO SERVICE! G-EUPJ. First Euro flight. 13 June 2024.
Here's a very welcome return to Heathrow. After entering storage in Madrid in November 2022, it was feared the #BA100 Airbus A319, G-EUPJ, in BEA retro livery, would never fly again. But yesterday the aircraft flew from Madrid to Heathrow, before operating a domestic Glasgow evening shuttle service last night; returning to Heathrow this morning, to then operate the first Euro flight, BA 528 to Lisbon - filmed here, departing on Runway 27 Right.
The BEA retro livery was one of 4 special liveried British Airways aircraft re-painted in February / March 2019 to mark the 100th anniversary of the formation of the first airline.
Sadly the remaining 3 retro liveried aircraft, all Boeing 747s, were withdrawn from service in June 2020 during the COVID pandemic, along with the entire BA 747 fleet. 2 of the 3 remain in preservation - G-BNLY in Landor livery, is at Dunsfold Aerodrome- (earmarked to be re-developed for housing - so a potentially uncertain future) and G-CIVB in Negus livery, which is open for viewing at Kemble Cotswold. Sadly the 3rd, G-BYGC in BOAC retro livery was scrapped at St Athan in August 2023. All of these aircraft (and indeed the entire BA 747 fleet) were extensively filmed by me and can be seen on this channel.
Enjoy! Best wishes, Steve

@t.p.mckenna I know what you mean. I felt the same with the BOAC livery - reminded me of childhood days at LHR watching the 707s, VC10s of BOAC taking off. Good memories as I’m sure the BEA livery is for you!

@@krishanprasad20Yes - they’ve got the One World livery on some A320s; plus the G-TTNA in that weird blue livery (not keen on that one myself!) but they would look good with a Landor scheme -like the first generation of A320s were in (G-BUSA/B/C etc.)

I can understand flying airliners to Kemble to scrap them, I can't understand why any one would store them there ie: The 727 in our damp climate, It's surely best to store an aircraft in like Spain or the Mojave desert in the USA where corrosion would not be an issue?

30 years later: we need to retire the 747-400 due to its poor fuel economy, pollution, high maintenance costs, tired cabin, out-dated technology and excessive noise. I imagine we'll be saying the same thing about the A380, A350, 787 and 777x in 30 years too.
