They're borrowing from the one Non-Canon shorts that came out a bit ago where the lightsaber color changes depending on who wields it or their heart or something.

Isn't the red colour because the crystals are cracked to make a more powerful but unstable weapon? I'm sure I read that in some EU story back in the day. I think they imply something happened to the crystal when the sabre hilt hit the rock.

The synthetic crystals glowed red, which was a dead giveaway for a Sith because they were the only ones that practiced the alchemy to do it.
It wasn’t any of this “bleeding” the crystal stuff.

It is with Disney's new lore. Kyber bleeding was something Disney brought into the lore to explain why darksiders have red lightsaber blades. We already had a reason for that, coined by better writers. But these morons thought they knew better. In the literature that covers kyber bleeding, never before (to my knowledge ... open to being corrected) has it been depicted in-progress. Usually you see them activate the lightsaber after the bleed has been completed. This was their lame-arse attempt to demonstrate how it would look if the blade was active as the bleed was happening.
If I bought into the bleeding nonsense, I would agree that it was a nice touch. However I will forever firmly adhere to the older lore that the red blade is a result of synthetic crystal use, so to me that whole bit was nothing but cringe of the cringiest kind.
