- Christopher Plummer Confesses Why He Truly Hated Her.
Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews brought "The Sound of Music" to life over 50 years ago and it remains one of the most beloved films of all time, but the Sound Of Music star Christopher Plummer hated making the classic Hollywood musical with Julie Andrews so much that he called it "the sound of mucus" - and had to get drunk to film one of the most famous scenes. And here're the reason why Plummer truly hate her - Zábava
He disliked the premise of the film but he loved Julie Andrews with whom he formed a life long friendship.
That IS true. He just didn't like the movie. Too SWEET. Dan Stevens ( *"The Man Who Invented Christmas"* ) said that Christopher (who played Scrooge in the movie) didn't like any mention of The Sound of Music. While I like the movie, I can sort of see Plummer's side of it. The MUSICAL aspect idealized the story and removed the realness, apart from the Nazis.
On a different topic, what's with the weird narration? A.I. ? The 'person' pronounces Genuine with a hard G like Gun and would mispronounce the name Maria.
@@JohannaLeigh we're getting more AI-related narration - often not great.
@@voulafisentzidis8830 True. Better to get an actual reader. Even a good voice talent. AI bites at human relations.
@@JohannaLeigh I tend to treat AI narrations as I do auto-tuned music. I switch if off!
Good advice. What a shame these posts are A) so negative and B) so poorly narrated. @@voulafisentzidis8830
I don't care about the behind the scenes. Julie and Plummer were magnificent in their roles and gave us the most beautiful film of all time: The Sound of Music. Chris Plummer was at the height of his elegance, he was a beautiful man who, in my romantic 15 years, was delighted to see. Julie, beautiful, sang wonderfully. Everything about that film was enchanting and unforgettable and that's what's worth remembering.
I just saw a video of Andrews and Plummer- their love and affection totally debunk this story. Plummer said he would not take the film unless Andrews was in it. The love that they had for each other is deeply moving.
Exactly, both had much praise for each other! And look no further than their body language on and off the screen - they adore each other!
Well this was interesting I truly love this movie ! And Christopher Plummer later in his life confessed to having a crush on Julie Andrews the two of them have been best friends for over 40 years and done many other projects together The Sound Of Music is a wonderful movie a classic for all to enjoy it’s a shame they don’t make movies like this anymore
So Julie Andrews didn’t complain, didn’t bite back at her coworker, and was willing to forge a friendship with him. she sounds like the bigger person.
can you imagine Doris Day as Maria? she's got a lovely voice, but Julie's voice is a force of nature.
Julie Andrews was the one to play Maria.
Ah....but Doris Day was Amazing as Calamity Jane!! Each were both cast well in their respective roles. Could Julie Andrews play Calamity Jane as well?
Dave.
It’s always been one of my most favorite movies.
There are so few wholesome movies like the ones that Julie Andrews starred in
I wouldn’t have imagine Christopher Plummer being an alcoholic and that he hated making the move and he didn’t like Julie Andrews but he later on became good friends with her and he had a love interest with Charmain Carr she was very beautiful and I loved her blue eyes I loved the whole cast they were so talented ❤
Why did he take the role? So many people would've been grateful to take his place....so sad 😢
It's not true. He gladly took the role.
It was stupid to call it ''The Sound Of Mucus'' - Quite ridiculous @@SMcCaskill
@@monichat yes I read that in the article when I looked it up
I was studying in Salzburg with the University of Redlands extension campus (the U. of R. Is in California) during the filming of Sound of Music in 1964. One of our 2 professors from the U of R was a cousin of the director and if any of our group had bought the Salzburg folk dress - dirndle outfit for the gals or lederhosen outfit for the guys - there was a possibility of being an extra. I believe that professors son, Bobby, who was about 12, was the only one who made it. The real Maria, whose 2 books I have, can be seen in the background of the scene when Julie Andrews sings as she walks out from the side of the cathedral after leaving the Nonnberg convent. The Salzburgers did not care for the disruption the filming caused in the city and were not especially taken by the movie after its release. I don’t know how they feel about it now. It is truly a shame the voice-over announcer couldn’t pronounce many of the English words nor the names of places used in the movie correctly. One would think he could at least do a bit of research on ENGLISH WORD pronunciation! It was rather jarring to hear both German AND English words mispronounced! As an aside, I did watch the filming of the end of the Do-re-me sequence as the cast did the hopping up and down the steps in the Mirabell Gardens…over and over. The film is a lively make-believe tale based very loosely on the actual story. I have been fortunate to return to this most beautiful city a number of times in the intervening 60 years. The city and surroundings are gorgeous and I’d be there now if I could be!
The voice-over announcer is pretty awful. "String-- Get" for stringent, to name just one? This guy is painful.
@cynthybarnes Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. 😊
Every time he said “George” instead of “Georg” (two syllables),I winced. I have to assume he’d never even seen the movie. It was quite clearly said properly all the way through.
It's likely a computer generated narration, with all the emotion of a sandstone brick!
They have "Sound of Music" tours in and around Salzburg. Feelings aside, the Austrians saw what a gold mine this became, so you can visit all of the locations except for the interior of the Convent Nonnberg: in the movie it was filmed in Hollywood, because Papal Closure didn't allow anyone but the Nuns inside the Sanctum Sanctorum!
It is definitely an AI voice, not a VA.
that is disgusting! the movie was about her life! she should be the first person to watch the movie!
No kidding1 What the heck was that mess about!?
The Sound of Music is not about Julie Andrew's life. Google it.
Loved this film so very much. It had my emotions ranging between laughter and sadness. Brilliant 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The movie was good but hearing negative things is not something anyone should care about…we watch movies for entertainment!
17:41 The person narrating this cannot be a native English speaker. Saying GEN-uine instead of genuine is just weird. 17:47 Maria ...search... tumultuous... none of those words are pronunced normal either. Maybe it's a weird AI version of English.
+It's an AI. Prettyt much all of this company's films are narrated by AIs
I dont belive that he hated her....... fake news!
There's a special with them from about.... ten years or so back with Julie and Christopher . He didn't care for the movie so he unfairly vented, but would apologize later. They would become and stay friends for the rest of his life.
You’re right! The clip tries to lure us in with lies.
The Sound of Music is a film I love to watch over and over, I can’t understand why Christopher Plummer had to resort to alcohol for some parts of the film, I think both he and Julie Andrew’s were perfect for the parts. It sound to me like Christopher Plummer was jealous of Julie Andrew she had a lovely voice and great acting skills, I wonder if anyone else thinks as I do
Did Greta come from Libby, Montana or was that false information? Disappointed that Christopher used alcohol and put more on Julie. A shame he used Leisel as his drinking partner that was appalling
Somehow I hated her always as well!!! She is pretentious!!
Would have never guessed, Plummer being so hmmm arrogant, and judgmental. What a handsome man
Why can’t they assign an actual actor who can read a script? It’s such a terrible turn-off to have to figure out what this computer voice is saying!!!!
AMEN!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Sounds a bit like Richard Dreyfuss
That AI narrator voice is getting very popular. Cracks me up when it mangles an occasional word. Got mucus right the first time, but then it said "moocus". Also liked the way it said stringent...."STRING-ent".
This added so-called truth is totally uncalled for. The movie itself was excellent and any added negative remarks are so uncalled for. Those of us who fell in love with The Sound of Music would not choose anything different.
Yes....isn't it strange how some people can't deal with perfection, which the movie pretty much was. Not a huge favourite of mine but I do enjoy it. The film in itself was pretty much perfect!! No...we can't have that!! Let's dig up some dirt!! An affair to remember was a great film too but certainly didn't reach the heights that the Sound of music did. When it had it's initial run at the cinema , my Mum watched it 7 times!
Dave.
Plummer was a good actor but likely jealous of Andrew’s rising fame and his substance abuse issues didn’t help.As super sweet as this movie was it showed a love of a family facing a future many would not survive. It can be difficult to humanize people in a couple hours and touch hearts for lost families decades ago. The real VonTrapp family struggled for many years entertaining public audiences willingly and unwillingly as a singing group. Financial difficulties raising such a large family made it a necessity to entertain unlessly putting a strain on their personal relationships and burden that fell on Maria after the Father died.💕🙏💕🙏
They were good friends throughout their lives and he was a fan since My Fair Lady. This is all BS.
I love this. Yes I was aware of Christopher Plummer's feelings about the movie and Julie Andrews.
The casting was perfect.
I loved the movie! I’m not so positively impressed by the narrator here. But this movie with its actors remains one of my favorites.
😮😅
Wonderful movie, photography, acting, scenery, precious children. He obviously was jealous of Julie.😅
I like 'South Pacific' so much more. And, Emile De Becque was such a loving, affectionate father. I think one of the best scenes ever put on film is the scene of him play-directing the children as they sing Dites-Moi on the terrace. And he crouched down to their level as he was doing it. He wasn't trying to be 'above them' - it's pretty rare to see that body language. Princess Diana did it.
Wasn't that a picture of Anne Bancroft? It surely wasn't Doris Day...
I would imagine Plumer's conflict came from taking on a character that was less dynamic than he was capable of, and his dislike for Andrews came from a typical response a drinker has with congenial people, because they're usually looking for someone to argue with, and the congenial don't take the bate. And for deviations from the real life narrative, movies have to be bottled with in the context of a beginning a middle and an end in a finite period of time. That was not the Von Trapp Family experience.
Plummer adored Julie. This clip twists the truth! I’ve read the interviews they mention, but I don’t think they really read it!
I love the sound of music 🎶 🎵
Say what you will, nothing can ever diminish the timeless appeal of this beautiful film, and of the iconic performances by Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews. I can never tire of seeing it:)
how could he say this 2 hrs ago when he died well over a year ago
i guess that's why is called acting. It is a surprising. He did act good in that movie, which is one of my favorites.
Well… Since 1964, when they were still shooting The Sound of Music, Christopher Plummer said he loved Julie Andrews, and he won't do this (played Captain in this movie) without Julie Andrews😢. In 2010 or 2015 (an anniversary of TSOM), he admitted that he loved her since seeing her on stage in 50s💫. In his memoir, the most words about Julie Andrews is high praise, and mentioned her two stage musicals✨… So I really couldn't understand how channels like this made it up that he "hated" her… He NEVER hates her, and in contrast, he SAID he LOVED her.
One of my favorite movies of all time. I remember having a crush on Christopher Plummer, I mean who wouldn’t. Such an elegant man .
I remember when my parents went to Germany in 86 , they brought back some amazing pictures. They were going to try to see NonBerg Abbey , I don’t think they got the chance . Wittkger’s Terrace was one place they did see and were able to see the Abbey from there. ( forgive me if my spelling is off , I’m not used to writing in German ! ) Austria and Germany were on the itinerary, since my uncle was stationed in Germany when he was in the Army . Georg Von Trapp was quite an interesting character, a little complex , but definitely my favorite in the movie.
A shame that some well loved films weren't so happy in the making.
Jealousy! is not attractive in anybody not even in Christopher Plummer. Nice to know they got to be friends in later life.
Oooo yes. I bought the movie and watch it alot. I koved Julie Andrews and had a crush on Christopher Plummer. Thank you for this video....
never heard this before how do we know. what ever. the story the movie was great what a beautiful movie funny the love between Maria and von trapp the children Maria was so funny and verry pure. i loved everything about it. i dont now what is true about this but it seems verry ungrateful. this movie is beautiful.
Check out the video “Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer: A Reminiscence”, which gives a different perspective on their relationship. They talk about their concern that an astringent quality be evident in their onscreen interactions so that the story wasn’t all cloying sweetness. I think that video gives a more accurate picture of what they thought about the movie and each other than is given in this video.
See also “The Sound of Music: From Fact to Phenomenon.” It’s a wonderful documentary on the story of the Von Trapp family and on the making of the movie. It also includes Julie Andrews and Robert Wise talking about their concern that the story not be bogged down in sweetness and Christopher Plummer talking about the effort to add depth to the character of Captain Von Trapp, which isn’t much of a role in the Broadway musical that was the inspiration for making the movie.
Having watched these two videos, I think that much of the negative things said in this video can be dismissed at the least as mistaken impressions.
Loved this film❤❤❤
I wish to offer a reason why this film was so thoroughly embraced by America at the time of release which was mid 1960s. I was born in 1958 the eldest of 5 kids. My dad, was promoted to navy officer candidate school in 1965. The baby boomer generation was a product of government. Social engineering. Most Americans don't know that the USA. Was at war and in a cold war at the time. The military paid extra stipends to all its personnel for each child. We paid welfair to women to have children. We were preparing for war by encouraging the birthrate. The military bases were full of children. This movie subtly reinforced the virtue of large family headed by distant disciplined father figure. It justified us, in a way it said we are OK being a family with 5 plus kids. This movie was us.
Any movie “based on real events” is likely to be half or more fictionized
Best film and actors ever! Have been to Salzburg severals times myself
. Its one of the most beautiful places Ive ever been to!
I love this movie…over and over again.❤️🎶
Well, movie goers loved her.
They were good friends throughout their lives and he was a fan since My Fair Lady. This is all BS.
He loved her too! This clip twists the truth
You can always tell a robot voice. They seem to speak perfect English and then suddenly mispronounce the most mundane words in a weird way!
10:09 The train trip was still dramatic: the following day the borders were closed! Had they waited but one more day they likely would have not made it out!
Thank you for sharing that.Yes, it was a pins and needles harrowing escape by train and just in the nick of time.
I'm sure this video has something - perhaps many interesting things to say about Christopher Plummer and "her", but it feels like they just needed to fill 24 minutes of air time, given the repetition and continual teases.
Loved the movie have visited Vermont twice well worth the experience
Great Classic.
Been to Austria twice. The film doesn't do those mountains justice. You got to actually be among them to appreciate the Alps better.
This story is a pack of lies, Christopher always spoke very highly of Julie.
Andrews and Plummer became good friends although Plummer could be a difficult person to get along with. In reality, he liked her more than she liked him. They stayed good friends afterwards.
Perhaps you could use a real voice instead of a robot!
This was the best movie ever made, edeging out South Pacific as the 2nd best.
You talk about Doris Day and show a photo of someone else. Proper editing?
I love sound of musici 10 years ago DVD i love T to watch it I love musici in 1968 My primary teacher music teacher use to Teach that i love musici I enjoy it a lot
Love sound of music
Wow can't believe he hated so bad
I don't believe it at all! I hate channels like this that don't research their facts enough and lack any true evidence. Any idiot can say crap like that on behalf of another!😡
@@TheSoleProprietor Even if he didn't like it at the time, he changed his view later on. He and Dame Julie Andrews became good friends, a "mutual admiration society!"
Mr Plummer had met the real Maria (of blessed memory) several times, when he and his family visited the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont for ski trips. He spoke fondly of her. (I have the 40th anniversary edition of "The Sound of Music" DVD, with interviews and some commentary). Rosmarie and Eleonore "Lorli," along with the other Austrian born siblings are no longer alive; only Johannes (born in Germantown near Philadelphia) is still with us. His son Samuel now runs the Lodge.

at least what he disliked about her was consistent with the other actors who liked her
cast: "she's nice!"

Excellent video.
I always loved this movie
Met Plummer once. His rude and cynical demeanour makes it very easy to believe his dislike of this unrealistic movie.
The whole premise of the movie was the good over evil. The family held their convictions against Hitler. Perhaps Plummer didn’t agree with their choices.
f he were still around, I would never recommend. him! What a disappointment!!!
MOOcus?! Bot Alert
Its an iconic, classic, beautiful, musical! Of course, famous musicals, on screen or on stage, hardly ever go by the exact story. I was born the year it came out, but I first saw it when I was like, four. Loved everything about the film, it brought so much joy to millions, and that's what counts. Another thing, if Christopher Plummer had so much contempt, for the movie and his role, why did he except the part in the first place?! Very cynical. He was very handsome and a good actor, but he sounded a bit unpleasant a man. They say he liked to drink? So...
I dont believe a word of this! He wasnt going to do it unless julie was in it. He loved her. If you watch his real interviews he says the film was great, andrews was great, but for him it was really sentimental, but there was no hate involved.
The nauseating music with Julie Andrew's overly precise diction gave me no inclination to see this thing. Now your description confirms how right my decision was. The inaccuracy of the story beggars belief due to the changes they made - no wonder they stopped the author going to the premier - they must have wanted to not be confronted with her possible negative reaction.
Apparently, Christopher Plummer's alcoholism was a key factor in his irrational feelings toward the film and especially Julie Andrews.
No one forced Mr Plummer to take the roll.
Interesting information. Sadly, the AI mispronounced several common words.
I have read Maria Von Trapps autobiography, but had forgotten that there were 10 children!
I also loved the Sound of Music.
Sad to know of Christopher Plummers dislike of Julie Andrews during the filming (professional jealousy?).
Yes I am a fan with the sound of music.
I would have loved Doris Day as Maria! It probably would not be too different than Julie's.
I am a fan of the sound of music
Good info, doesn't matter it's just history
It was very loosely based on Maria von Trapp's book.
Christopher Plummer never hated or disliked Julie Andrews. They became life long friends up until Christopher's death. You video producers need to do something more useful with you lives instead of spreading gossip and lies.
You are incorrect- Christopher had a good working and personal relationship over the years with Julie Andrews. The two had a good chemistry in the Sound of Music. The narrator mixes 'Julie' and 'Maria' and 'Plummer' and 'The Captain' interchangeably...sometimes confusing to the listener. The Sound of Music was a masterpiece and the cast got along well and there was no inappropriateness even though this is suggested regarding Liesl in your documentary. The most recent souvenir book of the Sound of Music suggests that despite the hard work, all actors and actresses benefited from the experience and in general from their relationships with other stars in the film.
Christopher Plummer was obviously a serious actor and clearly looked down on this film partly because his character didn't allow him to show off his full acting skills. Of course if he genuinely disliked playing this role why on earth did he accept it in the first place? I'm afraid this all seems to make him look a bit of a hypocrite. Maybe he either needed the money or perhaps his career needed a boost? Either way considering he had an alcohol problem, the film helped him both financially and career wise.
Devastatingly Demystified 😢
So, why did he hate her?
I like the music from Broadway version of The Sound of Music as well as the movie version. I must say I really like Mary Martin doing the Lonely Goatherd better then Julie Andrews. One of the songs they left out of the movie version was No Way to Stop It. On the other hand I love Julie version of Do Re Mi. I have the movie but I mute it when Something Good comes on as I find that song is just so dreary.
I saw the Play of the sound of Music and Michael Praed was a better Captain Von trap then Christopher Plummer
I was curious but too much talk for too long. Bye
As far as I know he likes Julie Andrews, but disliked the children (or disliked working with children). Sadly I think it's obvious.
Not one word about the stupendously elegant Eleanor Parker?
Elenor came across as a wannabee elite snob and played her part well. Boarding school, smoking etc. were so fake
No where in the movie did it show them going to the US, it only shows them leaving Austria.
Why must destroy out
Why must you all destroy our beautiful memories of our favorite movies and characters. We like our good memories without the dirt even though they may be true it gives us old timers dream like movies as an escape from the horrible stuff on the screen . Fantasy is a great relief in a world that is falling apart with nothing but brutality and foul language! You have burst my bubble of my most popular movie. If you must then do it in a book which I would never resd😢😢😢😢🤮
I couldn't agree more. Í am 71years óld and first saw the Sound of music as a young teenager Í adored it and still to this day watch it. The Von Trap family was everything I would have wished for. My friend and I ran a small village youth club and ¹ year we put on a show that included some songs from the film. I taught the children the songs in my council house and the show was a huge success. I also feel this program in part has some what clouded my beautiful memories and I am sure I am not alone.
Yes I was surprised and I love the movie im german
I Like Christopher Plummer was a geat actor but after seeing this i love all repect for him
Shame on you for twisting the truth and not bothering to check facts! Christopher Plummer never confessed to hating Julie as your title claims! He adored Julie even before the Sound of Music, and said he only agreed to do the movie since she was in it. She said they got along from day one! With never any cross words! They became the best of friends for life until his passing. He didn’t say the movie was awful! Never!! He said his ROLE was like flogging a dead horse . You do realize that’s a joke?! He worked mighty hard to improve the role, contributing greatly to the movie.
So sad when people don’t bother to check facts and seek sensations on the expense of an actor who gave us much joy, and is no longer here😢
I love the film and shocked he hated it
Andrews was married to the director(?) Plumber didn't care for that I am sure. He never had a success on a similar level. In the beginning, a fine actor probably figured he would easily do better, quality wise and $$ wise.
Most of what he got was director "Wise."
In reality, I am sure he was a far better actor than the movie came to prove.
Frustrating I am sure.
I couldn't stand the movie myself, and I still can't, so I sympathize.
She didn’t fancy the Baron at first - she was a nun so it’s a case of - - Well she would say that wouldn’t she!
