Well, that’s not true sorry, just watch interviews from 1964 and 2015. They were best friends their whole life
I agree with you.. I heard one interview and Plummer said they were great friends...
Not at first, though. It took him a while to warm up to her.
I agree!
They loved each other
All lies
@@michelmurphy7152 He never said that. He literally said he had seen her in My Fair Lady on Broadway and when he had the chance to he wanted to work with her because he, and I quote him (during the sound of music cast reunion in 2010), "fell in love with her" there lol. He literally never had negative feelings towards her (they always said they became fast friends during filming in interviews), not that he said at least, and I'd trust what he said over any other 'source'
@@michelmurphy7152 no, he said he fell in love with her when he saw her in my fair lady 8 years before som. And in an interview during the filming of the movie in austria he said he wouldn’t have done the film if Julie Andrews wasn’t there, and that she was the reason he accepted to play the part of the captain
I saw an interview for a reunion of the cast of "The Sound of Music" in which Christopher Plummer mentioned that he liked Julie very much. He never said he didn't like her.
Glad to hear that Julie was truly nice. Cements my impression of her.
Plummer sure had problems with The Sound of Music as a film (even though he came around to appreciating the film as he mentioned in countless interviews in his later years, especially ever since 2015) but he never disliked Julie... He literally had only praise for her and called her a friend in his autobiography. There are also many interviews, some dating from 1964 when they were still filming, in which he quite literally says Julie was one of the reasons why he decided to do the film in the first place. Not to mention the cast reunion on Oprah for the 45th anniversary, dude literally said "I fell in love with [Julie] when I saw her in My Fair Lady on Broadway"... and of course, they worked together again years later (a TV version of On Golden Pond), he was usually there to prestige her whenever there was some sort of award celebrating her career and he famously showed up during the curtain call of Victor/Victoria on Broadway just to be there for her. Soooo, I don't think he ever disliked her. At all.
Also, the valentine's day card remark didn't come from him, but rather someone called Doug McClure and then linked to an article about his autobiography...
Exactly! Thank you! He didn’t like the movie or his role. He was upset he didn’t sing. But he was quite open about adoring her. This video is inaccurate.
@@HoneyBunny-ko9ey He was just like many of us, in awe of her 😭
Indeed. He knew she was pure talent and determination. He was aware and grateful for leading them all. He had pictures of her in his home.
Those who research know the truth.
@@HoneyBunny-ko9ey exactly!!!
@@HoneyBunny-ko9ey But (an avocational classical pianist in real life) he did in the film sing and guitar strum Edelweiss.
pure clickbait
they remained close friends till his death
Thank you. I now read the comments BEFORE watching.
Indeed. I’m not sure it’s even possible to hate Julie Andrews.
Never at any time did Christopher Plummer indicate "that he couldn't stand Julie Andrews". He had always been very vocal about not liking the movie and actually found working with Julie as the thing that made the film tolerable. Christopher and Julie had a long and enduring friendship until his passing in 2022. Alot of misinformation in this video.
Exactly! Thank you for standing up for the truth!
This clip tries to be provocative on the expense of real people who were great artists that gave us much Joy.
It’s trashy and inaccurate.
In 1965, people didn't have any problem understanding that this story was based on true events and not a documentary.
READ HIS BOOK...HE LOVED JULIE AS A GREAT FRIEND UNTIL HE DIED
Past Paradise just can't stand that Julie was a better singer than she.
It's true, Julie has a gorgeous voice. Had. She had a minor surgeon on her throat, and gone was the famous voice...
Plummer actually said he recalled somewhere that an audience member told him that watching Julie Andrews was like being "hit over the head with a Valentine's Day Card." Plummer repeated it, and the Valentine's Day Card comment was later thought to be Plummer's negative comments about Julie. Plummer admitted to being insufferable and rude in those days. This video is rather nasty, unnecessary, and stupid. The narrator doesn't even pronounce certain names correctly, and many of the photos are wrong.
Yes, Dewey, I noticed
" Liesel (" Liesl "?)
Came out as
" Lye -sell "....
😐🇬🇧💕🇺🇸🦉⭐🇬🇧
More often than not, the 'narrators' for these things are robots. I absolutely agree that this video is nasty, etc.
And in one place “role” was “rule.”
The narrator obviously didn’t watch The Sound of Music the way he pronounced Liezl.
I recall an NPR radio interview when Christopher Plummer somewhat attributed for his daughter Amanda Plummer's acting success. He said neither he nor his former actress wife were parents to her in any way. She (Amanda) was on her own and deserves all the credit for her success at acting and everything else. As much as I thought he was always a blowhard I appreciated him not taking any undeserved credit for his daugther.
At least he was open about it. She paved her own way and did well, despite being pretty much abandoned. Definitely not a nepotism baby. Her gave her his last name and his face. That’s all.
@@HoneyBunny-ko9ey Still remember her in the 1987 'Pygmalion' on Broadway, she was magnificent!
He was very proud of her and they had a good relationship later on.
and as always, every foreign name is mispronounced, and by the way, Liesl wasn't in love with a German soldier, she was in love with an Austrian SA....
Plummer’s character’s name is pronounced Gay-org and Charmaine’s character is pronounced Lee-sil.
And her name is Charmian, not Charmaine.

@@Jonathan-pm7lx Also, she did not "break her ankle"… Her foot went through one of the panes of glass in the Gazebo and was cut and bandaged ( with a flesh colored bandage ), she could dance the next day
Came for the video but stayed for the comment section.
Can't imagine anyone else doing the roles of Maria & Captain Von Trapp other than Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.....
At a couple of places in this video, you show a photo of the young Maria, not the Maria who wrote the book. George Von Trapp had a daughter name Maria before he married the Maria who wrote the book. It’s the younger Maria’s picture you keep showing when you mentioned the older Maria!
They made the oldest child female because they wanted to use the song “16 going on 17” which R&H had already written but hadn’t used yet in a musical.
Never knew that. I mean '16 going on 17' being a 'trunk song', fascinating!
A nun in training is called a novice.
I'll always love Julie Andrews and The Sound of music is my favorite film.
Christopher Plummer was born in Canada and have done professional theater in Canada too
He have?
i mean has done, sorry about my grammar program didn't pick this up
The pronunciation of Charmian Carr's first name is not "Chairman."
And her name in the movie is pronounced Leesle, not Lysel
@@curtgottler9961 In German spelled "Liesl," it is pronounced Lee'-sil, not like English "Leslie." Agree, not "Lysel" (nor Lysol).
@@JudgeJulieLit Who in their right mind would name their daughter Lysol.

Also... The Captain's name was "Georg" (pronounced "Gay-org" not "George". This post is a frusrating collection of name mispronunciations!

He sure did a good job of hiding it.
I believe Jim Garner’s view of her.
The information you missed was that Maria was more like a dictator. The kids stayed with her as long as their dad was alive. She didn't want any of them having a personal life because she didn't want to lose their performance and income for the family. I even read that one had to escape from a window in the bedroom because she had locked them in.
True. I was so disillusioned when I first learned about this not long ago.
Yes. The real life story of Maria Von Trapp was amazing though she was headstrong and quick tempered. Georg Von Trapp did suffer under her volatile temper as did some of the children. But all in all the story of The Vob Trapp was indeed a God guided journey to escape an evil regime. The Hollywood is a class in itself cos of Christoppher Plummer and Julie Andrews and the amazing children.
For two seconds I was thinking “Plumber.” 👀 I feel so dumb haha but it was worth the momentary laugh.
I too was thinking “who is this plumber who doesn’t like Julie Andrews”?😮🤣🤣🤣😊
Absolutely no one - certainly not film critics or those who work in the film industry - has ever suggested "The Sound of Music" is the greatest film of the 20th century. Perish the thought! But that's not to deny - because there's no denying - that it's certainly one of the most popular films ever made. And a very charming film, to boot. Of course, there was a huge backlash against the film as the 60s progressed and the country's politics became more polarized over Vietnam, not to mention the bitter student protests that arose in response. Fair to say by '68, SoM just didn't reflect the zeitgeist of the times. Undoubtedly that shaped Plummer's view of the film and accounts for many of his off-the-cuff dismissive remarks about it in later years. That said, I also think Plummer knew in his latter years - he passed away in '21 - that Sound of Music would stand as his most lasting legacy as a film actor.
It's only popular in North America and Japan. Over here in Europe, most have never heard of it, including Austrians.
Yes and he did finally agreed when he was made to rewatch it with some children at a family gathering that it was a GOOD family movie and many more positives remarks at other press interviews. Sometimes negative attitudes and comments stem from personal history. He himself never had a father to love him, he was orphaned in his youth and he was divorced himself and separated from his only daughter by his ex wife. Yet many positive remarks were made about him re his kindness and readiness to teach younger actors and even Julie Andrews said he was very giving by helping her in the boat scene where they had a fight. Great man Christopher, may the Lord blessed you with eternal life.
Quite a few people probably hold that opinion. I'd certainly rank it as being every bit as good as anything I've seen, though I have a group of favorites, depending on my mood at the moment. Out in the real world, people love the same things they've always loved. But today they feel the obligation to concoct 'official' opinions...the kind they break out for public consumption...because they fear being mocked for being unhip. In all truth, the mass media and print media have intimidated people so badly that most would NEVER admit to what they truly love.
@@marjorieong2112 People who hate something like The Sound of Music are, by definition, toxic. Otherwise, they'd just say they could take it or leave it. But to literally HATE something this beautiful...you'd have to be a pathetically broken human being.
@@tgriffin3059 The interesting thing about "The Sound of Music" is despite the fact that a number of critics disliked it upon its initial release, it was a humongous hit and has steadily remained in the public's eye ever since. It's sort of in the Gone with the Wind/ Star Wars/ Wizard of Oz/ The Godfather / The Exorcist category of movies - meaning it's held up over decades and multiple generations have seen it and virtually every generation knows about it. Films like that are literally bullet proof - say what you want, but they surpass all criticism. They've become part of the cultural furniture. And there aren't a lot of movies that can make that claim.
Interesting information, but quite annoying that the voiceover narrator mispronounces “Charmian”, “Liesl”, and “Georg.” Obviously the narrator has not seen the film or would know it’s “Lee-sul” and “Gay-org”. It’s also “Leslie Caron”, not “Carson.” Sloppy prep. ☹️
The children asked Maria to marry the Captain. They did have some relationship. They did have more children together. She wrote that she only realized how much she loved him when she was devastated after he died. He was a smoker. I read the books that inspired the movie years ago.
There actually were only seven children in the family. Maria and George had three of their own later.
Rupert, the eldest son, was a doctor, and he was offered a job by the Nazis to replace a Jewish doctor, who had just been dismissed. That was repulsive to Rupert, so he refused. George was asked to be in the navy for the Nazis, and he refused. The family was also asked to perform for Hitler, and they refused. These three things made them realize that they better get out of there, so that’s when they left.
Been to Stowe Vermont many times often would go up the mountain road to visit the Von Trapp lodge and look over the beautiful valley below.Wonderful memories
Thank goodness they got out. Just a little sad that none of them ever got to revisit their homeland.

“Gone With The Wind” is considered the greatest film in the 20th century. It has consistently, except for two times, the most viewed. Even though, by then, GWTW was nearly 30 years old.

Where do you get your information seriously because he never said that in his interview
This video is so full of inaccuracies it's difficult to know where to start. The narrator can't even pronounce Liesl (or even Charmian) correctly, so presumably he hasn't seen the film either.

Hmmmm this is weird 🤔. Not sure I’m buying it.
I watched a “Sound of Music” anniversary special, with Plummer and Andrews together reminiscing, not long before he died. They each had nothing but good to say about each other.
I'm sorry but this is not true. I watched the reunion and they really liked each other..
Don’t forget, the plot of the film is based on the plot of the earlier stage musical.
Confused me for a couple of seconds with that 'Gone with the Wind' poster, lol.
Liesl is mis-pronounced here. [:Lee:sl:] is correctl. It's short for Elisabeth.
Sorry Christopher
Inaccurate re Christopher Plummer's and Liesel relationship and Christopher Plummer had a crush on Julie Andrews. He said so that he saw her in Broadway's My Fair Lady' and he fell in l0ve with her. He said he took the role of Captain Von Trapp because the leading lady was Julie Andrews.
:HISTORY OF THE von TRAPP FAMILY:
**Please remember this part of Europe: Croatia and Hungary were ruled by the Austro-Hungarian Empire**
This Empire collapsed in 1918 after WWl::
Georg von Trapp was born in today's Croatia in the city of Zadar: Province of Dalmatia on the Adriatic coast: b:1880-1947.
He was a high ranking Officer in the Austro-Hungarian Navy. Having emigrated to America died their age 67.
His first wife Agathe Whitehead died of scarlet fever: leaving behind 7 children, was a British-Austrian heiress and aristocrat, on her mother's side. After their wedding they lived in Pula, Istria, at the Navy Base in Croatia 🇭🇷 .
Her father owned a torpedo factory in Croatia whose weaponry was used to sink German submarines WWI.
She was born in Rijeka: Croatia: 1891-d:1922 and lived near the Adriatic Sea at their palatial home Erlhoff.
Georg Ritter von Trapp married again in 1927: Maria Augusta Kutshcera :
b 1905-1987 the "tutor" Maria.
Maria was orphaned by age 9, both her parents had died. She was brought up by her uncle, who mistreated her, later he was diagnosed mentally ill.
Maria ran away from home to a friends family who helped her progress in life eventually became a teacher.
Wanting to enter Holy Order, firstly she worked as a teacher at the Abbey.
The widowed von Trapp Naval Officer requested tutoring for his children from the Salzberg Abbey and Marie was recommended as tutor..
We know after WWI Mari & von Trapp had 3 children: in total 10.
Of their 3 children:-
: Lorli: 1931-2021 :
: Rosemarie: 1922-2022:
Their third child Johaness:
born: 1939. He is in 2022 : 82 y.o.
l believe he lives in Stowe Vermont. They are all buried at Stowe: Vermont.
Von Trapp died of lung cancer 67:
Maria died of heart failure 82.
***Their 3rd child Johaness is the only family member still living of the original Georg and Maria von Trapp family.
REALLY interesting. Thank you so much for taking the time to share.
Thank you for your Von Trapp information. I graduated from High School in Michigan in 1967. They came to our graduation & spoke to us. It was amazing & I really appreciated it. I remember introducing them to our graduation class.

gods, where did you get your info from?
I like the candid photo at 10:48, because of the interesting contrast in clothing styles for males and females, how mostly the males look like they could be contemporaries of ours (the heavyset kid toward the right looks like he could've just walked out of the Gap or Old Navy with those khaki pants and striped short sleeve shirt (and even his haircut) etc. the females look like they could be in the 19th century. Interesting photo that way.
Also, its pronounced Gay org. Not George.
I'm not sure I believe
the claim in this video's title.
I have never heard any hint
that the great Christopher
Plummer " couldn't stand"
Julie Andrews.😠.
He did say more than once
in interviews, that he found
the story corny : I can't recall the
exact term he used, but as
it said here, he referred to
"The S. of M".
as "The Sound of Mucus ".
He probably found the
role unchallenging ?
But was convincing
enough, anyway ...☺️
The reason I don't believe
the claim that he didn't
like Julie is that I think they
were probably on good
terms : they worked SO
well together in the t.v.
production of
" On Golden
Pond " .
( Look for it here on

Their body language
and natural performances
suggested to me that
if their lives had not
already been established
with spouses, then
they might have been
💕very happy together..💕..?
There are lots of lovely
photos of them together....☺️
That's my impression of
them, anyway....I refuse
to think they were such
good actors that they
could hide any animosity☺️.
I " love" them both : both " gave "
so much in interviews :
I really don't believe
"C.P." could be " acid "
like that....☺️.
By the way, look for him
in a t.v. version of
" The Prince & The Pauper "

Where may we find the Prince and the Pauper?
If you can't say something about somebody, don't say anything.
The eldest daughter's name Liesl is pronounced LEE-sl not LI-sl. You failed to mention that Mary Martin played Maria in the original Rogers and Hammerstein production on Broadway, and also that there was an earlier German language movie on the Von Trapp family singers
You couldn't even call this type of video 'faction' because they're so far from the truth. CZcams needs to get a grip on contents before allowing this type of video to be aired.
Don’t believe everything you hear or read.
What’s Matthew McFayden doing in this?
A rather harsh response to someone being "too sweet." I can understand that not being one's preference but "can't stand?"
He never said he couldn’t stand Julie! He adored her!
No wonder you didn’t include any video interview of him in this clip to support your claim!
There are however lots of video interviews where he says he loves her, that she’s a miracle! And he would not have taken the part if it was with anyone else but Julie!
They became life long friends. Look at them together- the chemistry on and off the screen is striking!
This is some real shizzzzzz.
Liesl is not pronounced "Lizel" but "Leezl". Wow.
And I understand that she felt about the same about him.
STOP LYING
And no Naval Captain would even touch a Bosun's Pipe. That was for the lower deck. probably even more so in the Conservative Austro Hungarian Navy
When the narrator says Leslie Carson (or Carlson?) was considered for the role of Maria, did he mean Leslie Caron? I don't know who writes these things and I suspect the narrator is simply doing a voice-over and is reading whatever script is put in front of him. But sometimes I do wish some proofreading would take place. (I also suspect there must be a word quota because there's an awful lot of padding in every video of this kind on CZcams. Oy vey.)
Dont know where you get your information from, but it is totally false
Ironic since she had a reputation for swearing.
But Captain Von Trapp wasn't a true captain in Rank. I actuall read once he was a Frigaten Kapitan, I'm sure that's about a Lieutenant Commander.

It’s pronounced “Leezle”
For the record, Plummer did show some initial aversion to Julie Andrews, e.g. calling her "Miss Disney". They stayed at different hotels in Salzburg and had a fairly distant relationship during the filming. This attitude to her may have been related to his general lack of affection for the film itself. He was by all accounts an arrogant and rude man at times, but of course he was also dashingly handsome and charming, so he was able to get away with it.
There is no evidence whatsoever that he had an affair with Charmian Carr, but they did stay at the Bristol Hotel in Salzburg together and socialised and drank into the early hours. Given her extraordinary youthful beauty and his good looks it was perhaps inevitable that they would be flirtatious (their liking for each other is visible in the film itself), but that's apparently as far as it went.
But CP never showed any aversion to Julie at all though, much to the contrary (in fact, i suggest you search a 1964 on set interview here on youtube, published by the julie andrews archive, because he talks about how getting to work with her is the reason he even took the part in the film)... And they did indeed stay in different hotels but then again, he was in a different hotel from the majority of the cast (not sure if everyone else), nothing to do with her. He was indeed known to be very rude, but Julie has always said-in interviews and in her memoir-that despite his attitude towards the film itself she knew he cared about the project and they both had the same concerns (that it'd be "too saccharine" for example) and that's how they started bonding.
So while he certainly wasn't easy to deal with, and that according to himself, they actually became friends.
@@milenel I pretty much agree with everything you've said there. Any comments he made about Julie Andrews have to be taken within the context of his general manner.
Andrews stayed at the Hotel Sacher with her child and six of the kids. Plummer stayed at the Bristol, as did Charmian Carr, who wanted to hang around with the adults, understandably.
@@Jonathan-pm7lx Most likely! He certainly didn't enjoy the filming process for many reasons, and he didn't seem to be very mature about it at all, but other than that nothing much happened, especially not what is said in the video.

To shakespeare roles like oepidus
And other more demanding roles
Or maybe he made it for the money!
This movie might be considered one of the best films, but only in America. Most Europeans have never seen it, especially Austrians living in Salzburg. That includes the older people. Also, Salzburg is in the pre-Alps, so the scene where she was spinning around with snow peaked Alps is fake.
