      It’s
      Sakiye Snehidiye
Snehidiye - means friend is derived from Sanskrit Sneham
Pure Tamil word for friend (girl) is
      Thozhi
      But Snehidiye rhymes with sakiye
      So they used it.

      You are welcome Athena 😊
I guess the Sneho in Bengali is derived from Sanskrit.
We use the Sanskrit Loan word
      sneham - for affection
But actual Tamil word is “Anbu” - for affection.
Usually we use “Thozhi “ for friend (girl)
Not “snehidi “ ( in this song it rhymes )

Not just in Tamil I personally do not like hindi or telugu/Malayalam/Kannada songs dubbed in Tamil as well, the feel and the roots just seems lost ! I listen to songs in every language as music doesn’t need a language but lyrics does ! Just my perception..so chill !

This is from great Indian director Mani Ratnam movie. He shoots only in India against other big directors out there who like to shoot overseas especially for songs. But now he is not in his prime without the assistance of great dialogue writers he usually associates with...
Still now he is on a epic movie Ponniyin Selvan - movie about Chola Kingdom in 10th century. The prince character that comes in the story became Raja Raja Cholan later in his life and built the Big Temple at Tanjore .... It has many great architectural wonders and Pisa tower is nothing compared to the might if this temple still standing straight after 1000 years still an active Shiva temple ...
Wish Ponniyin Selvan becomes a great Indian move and an epic feather on the cap of Mr.MaNiRatnam. Night shots and short dialogues are his trademark techniques.
