  • Hi this is activity based learning sessions. In this video we bring to a simple fun activity on Elements, Compounds and Mixture. It requires very simple material to ignite passion for learning. A parent and teacher can easily convert this is teach various topics related chemistry.
keep it simple have fun while learning.

    Steps:
    1. Use three bowls, different coloured clays and match sticks provided in d-box.
    2. Form three groups naming them Team E, Team C and Team M. Each team needs to take one bowl and label E, C and M on it respectively.
    3. Team E has will take clay of one colour only and will form same size clay balls. Fix two balls on one match stick. This means two atoms of an element are joined together by a bond (match stick). Put different combinations of Elements into the bowl.
    4. Team C needs to take two different coloured clays. Make clays balls using the clays of two different sizes. They should form same sized balls for each colour. So same coloured balls will be all equal but different from other coloured balls. Fix two different coloured clay balls over a matchstick as shown on Journal Page No 13. Match sticks represents chemical bonds which keeps two atoms of a molecule together. Make as many combinations as possible and put them in respective bowl. The number of different coloured balls and the shape they form for making each molecule will always be equal.
    5. Team M needs to make combinations as made by Team E and Team C both. Once you have made them, mix them all in bowl labeled “M”
    6. Each team has to explain what they have made and differences they observe in each bowl. They will win 10 points in case they explain their understanding correctly.
    7. Any team which identifies the other team’s constituent and their possible properties, they will win 10 more points.
    8. Calculate the total score and find out the winner.
    9. Teacher to discuss by showing students different types of combination in each bowl “E”, “C” and “M” to make them understand properties of Element, Compound and Mixture.
