Okay guys while we wait for the copyright issues to resolve with "MoonKnight" I thought its the perfect time to release our first reaction into the world of "STARWARS" I really hope you guys enjoy the reaction, please understand we took the advice of those on Patreon who suggested this order to watch the movies, we have at this point already now seen the first 3 STARWARS "OG Trilogy" So anyone asking us to watch it in different order I'm afraid its too late for that, I don't understand why these movies had to be so difficult in numbering or ordering them lool but hey it is what it is, I just hope you guys enjoy!! I think it’s actually alright to watch the OG trilogy first. Prequels is there to give more context about a time/ era before the Empire etc.
Hint: George Lucas "broke" the REQUIREMENT from the Actor's Guild ... to "show title cards and intro with names" ... because he NEEDED the opening crawl to "explain the world". Having this come after opening credits would have been too much.
dont worry, if you did a new hope first, you did it right. the people saying timeline order are just straight up wrong. on a first viewing you definitely shouldn't do timeline order.
You are watching in the order that older people saw as kids and you will see how the franchise grew up. Since 1977 and until the final episode in 1983 Lucas and Spielberg really began to change movie making. The break between 1983 and 1999's The Phantom Menace was a huge leap forward in movie making. It is during and after the prequel trilogy you have the birth of CGI. Lucas was honestly the driving force for todays CGI spectacles. The story making is simple and meant for kids. Lucas was really against making an adult Star Wars that we are seeing now since he had sold the property to Disney but it tries to stary kid focused on much of its content. Honestly though this is probably one of the toughest and problematic fandoms in all of fiction. You have opinions on everything from every direction. Be prepared to anger someone for something so basic and so simple. Star Wars is almost a religion in and amongst itself for some people.
This was 1977. Literally 45 years ago. Stunning, for the time... and 45 years later there's still incredible new content coming out inspired by it. I think it would be good to watch Empire (Ep5) and Return of the Jedi (Ep6), but you could also go Rogue One next and then Andor (Disney+ series) to get the rest of *this* story followed by Empire and Jedi to get the rest of Luke's story - and skip all the rest. (Said by a very old person who saw all of these when they were released.)
Older films heavily relied on practical effects over cgi and thats why they will always be amazing in my eyes
For me in some cases it’s even better than the CGI of today. I can admit a really well done CGI movie probably looks best. But the moment the CGI misses the mark, it can look ten times worse and completely take me out of the scene. Recent Marvel shows and even movies seem to be a really good example. I can get caught up in the but the moment they go big but it’s so bad they should have just gone home, it completely takes me out of the scene and can even ruin the movie for me. Say what one will about practical effects, but they tend to be more consistent (if not always good) throughout a movie.

Exactly. The smarter modern day film makers insist these days on practical effects because they know it too.
CGI came about in the '90s.
It's always funny how people refer to special effects an older movies as being CGI.
There are practical effects both onset in camera as well as effects added later, composite photography, stop motion animation, even traditional animation. In the '70s they started using computers to program camera movements and precisely repeat them.
In the '80s there are a few incidences of early computer-generated imagery but basically a single scene or limited in realism.
After The Abyss, T2 and Jurassic Park in the 90's CGI began to take its place in the forefront of modern special effects.
You talk about older movies but after close to 50 years, this still holds up pretty damn well.
the most hallarious thing, is that the extra CGI that lucas added later, holds up worse than all the practical effects.

Modern cgi will never replace good characters and great story telling
Watching it today it's really hard to appreciate just how influential this movie was, because it was so influential that the new techniques it spawned are standard for moviemaking today. Nothing like the dogfight at the end had ever been seen on film before, because it wasn't possible to film anything like it before. The first digital motion camera system was invented specifically to film the space battle scenes, which finally made it possible to film multiple objects at different depths while keeping everything constantly in focus. From then on it was possible to film not just big epic space battles, but more complex shots in general. Monica is right about old movies looking different than today's movies, and in many ways Star Wars represents the beginning of the transition to the new era.
Monica, this is not "old" - it is the start - this movie changed the industry ... a LOT of the FX that are standard today were invented for this movie.

Alfred Hitchcock - the master of suspense movies - said: *"what you DONT see is more important than what is actually shown"* ... and "you two" are children of 100% VISUAL movies that "show everything". How about ACCEPTING THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE TO GUESS? This is a way to MAKE PEOPLE SPECULATE and it isnt a bad thing.
Just an FYI, George Lucas wanted the feel to be more "dirty & lived in".
You're not going to get the "shiny & new" feel until you get to the prequel movies.
Also, just a friendly suggestion for Monica: a lot of classic movies (older than this one as well) are worth the time to watch. Aspects of movie making are ever evolving. From storytelling, effects & actors themselves. I think watching older/classic movies would give you (and anyone for that matter) a broader appreciation for all film types. 😊
Couldn’t have put this better myself. I also despised watching older movies for a loooong time because I thought they were boring, cheesy, and bad looking compared to today. But you really begin to appreciate the artistry once you watch some of the groundbreaking older movies and realize how much they helped shape what we watch today.
One cool example is Weta workshop, which was founded to do the effects of lord of the rings and is what pushed visual affects forward to the standard they are at today. Lots of cool stories to learn like this

Personally, even being born in the 1990s, I think a lot of my favorite movies are older movies. The OG Star Wars trilogy, Monty Python's Holy Grail and Life of Brian, Blazing Saddles, and the original 12 Angry Men stand out to me as some of my favorite movies. There's some real gems if you're willing to look past the lack of incredible special effects and modern technical flourishes.
Agreed 100%. Watching much older movies can be a huge eye-opener in so many ways. For example, as a long-time fan, it is my own belief that anyone with SF leanings should watch 'Forbidden Planet' at least once in their lives.

I'm sure I'm not the first to mention it, and I KNOW I won't be the last, but the impact this movie had on 13 year old me and movie-going audiences in 1977 cannot be overstated.
This film TRANSFORMED not just the art of motion pictures, it lifted the spirits of an entire nation deep in the miasma from coming out of the Vietnam War.
The fun and swashbuckling space opera action completely altered the mindset of people everywhere. My dad, the toughest sci-fi critic EVER, loved it because it reminded him so much of the Buck Rogers & Flash Gordon serials he watched in nickel theaters growing up in the 30's & 40's.
As someone who grew up on the original releases of the original trilogy... I felt a pain in my chest when she said "I can't stand these old movies." I am way too young for this to be an old movie. LOL
Weirdly all my nieces and nephews adore and love the older movies as well but heck can't blame them. They probably churn on marvel movies and others like those. This movie made those movies possible as the first ever major blockbuster.

As someone who's only 21 and appreciates the classics and the technological innovations of the OG trilogy, it hurt my heart
When I watch old movies, I put my self into the body of the people who watched it for the first time. Although it may look fake to you now, it looked real to them back then.
It actually looked better originally in theaters than this version. This rereleased version is full of awful CGI stuff that, to me, ruins the film during those moments. I found a copy of the original theatrical versions on dvd and will never watch this junk again. Lucas thought he was fixing things up, but he really lowered the quality with that sad attempt at CGI.

The death scene of obiwan was set up when he says "if you strike me down I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine". He dissapeared when he was killed because he become one with the force.
This was the movie that opened the doors for sci-fi stories receiving the sorts of big budgets they get these days. Let the story unfold rather than wanting all the information at once.
Also, an awful lot of the story beats are deliberately constructed as tributes to the b movies from what was known as the golden age of cinema, combined with the story structure of classical ancient Greek plays. The Hero's Journey is a very old theme.
The girl was literally cringing and embarrassed at the opening scene like it was horrible 🙄. But her reaction was really the only embarrassing thing to look at.
The opening scene that made her cringe for some strange reason is literally one of the most iconic scenes in cinematic history because it was so groundbreaking and ushered in the era of modern-day blockbusters.
What did she want it to consist of instead, CGI? Does she not know how bad that would've looked if it was CG?
Even modern CGI in the 2000s sometimes looks horrible. And almost never holds up as well as practical effects even if they're older going back to the 70s and 80s.
If you want proof compare the practical Jabba in Return of the Jedi to the CGI Jabba in the prequels. Which looks more realistic? If you say it's the prequel Jabba, you have no idea what you're talking about.
Professional filmmakers and special effects experts including CGI artists would even say that the practical Jabba looks more realistic than the CGI version.
And even the CG Hutts in 2021's Book of Boba Fett didn't look as authentic and of the real world as the practical Jabba in a film from the 80s.
The same is true when comparing the practical effects of "The Thing" from the 1980s to its CGI fest counterpart made in 2011.
Understand that special effects aren't supposed to look like your video game cut scenes. They're supposed to look like the real thing.
So please educate yourself more about practical effects so you can stop cringing at their mere notion and sight. And learn to appreciate/respect them more.

Any CGI was added to this film in 1997, 20 years after the initial release. While some of the CGI choices are tolerable, there are many that look absolutely horrible and are unneccessary such as the Jabba the Hutt scene. Also, this was a tough reaction to watch for me, because it was prefaced with the disdain for "old movies". It's just weird watching someone suffer through something they seem intent on hating.
I wouldn’t do the animated series until you do 1,2,3 just because it may make the timeline a little confusing. I’d do the 4,5,6 then 1,2,3 then whatever else that way you have the Original story down first.
i think that's probably the best way to watch them, that's how i tell my friends to watch them though
Best way for sure, then imo watch The Clone Wars, then either Rebels then Mando or other way around. Rest up to you guys when.
Machete order is best. To end with ROTJ is such a downer, why do that to them? They should watch Return of the Jedi last. It makes sense. Otherwise, the end of ROTJ isn't going to make any sense and you lose the impact of that, the end of the story. I suggest they do 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, then the Kenobi series, and end with ROTJ. Hell, even Lucas says chronological order is the right way to go, except we all know why that's not exactly right if we want to maintain certain plot twists and reveals.

You’ve just taken your first step into a larger world - WELCOME !! Deciding to watch in the release order is a sign of wisdom … you’re getting stronger with the Force. My advice is to just follow the story itself and ignore the differences about the effects in the newer ones - they came out decades later. There are a lot of questions, of course … just follow the story itself and all those questions will be answered. You’re reacting to a great saga, so great that it earned its own worldwide celebration day, which is May 4th, that is May the fourth - like in “May The Force (be with you)”. Just to make an idea - this was initially thought out as a stand-alone movie, simply called “Star Wars” … but after George Lucas saw what a HUGE success it was, he decided to continue the saga … and very well he did. When you’ll get to episode 6 (Return Of The Jedi), there you’ll have my most favorite line of all the movies I ever watched in my entire life - I’ll reveal it after you react to that one. Just remember everyone, Monica reacted just like this at the beginning of this video as she did before she watched Iron Man. Now look at her. She is beyond invested! Always disappoints to see someone go into something with not wanting to have an open mind but feeling compelled to watch something just for a channel. This stuff isn't extremely popular for no reason.
The blasters in Star Wars fire a plasma charge wrapped in a magnetic shell. They use two types of “ammo” to do this: a cartridge of tibanna gas that provides the material for the plasma, and a power cell that provides the energy for its superheating and magnetic shell. Both take a very long time to run out; a standard E-11 blaster rifle you see the heroes and stormtroopers using can take upwards of 500 shots before any of it needs reloading. This efficiency is a large part of why blasters are the preferred type of weapon in the Star Wars setting.

As a 9 yo kid seeing this when it first came out it felt amazing to see on a big screen. So lots of nostalgia attached to Star Wars for my generation.
Regarding them getting the same medals: IMO, they deserve them equally, and I’ll tell you why. If Han had not come back and messed up Vader’s shot, Luke would have died, and the Death Star would not have been destroyed. Then they would have successfully destroyed the rebel base and everyone there, Princess Leia included. So, Han actually enabled Luke to be successful in his mission.

You are actually watching a remastered version but the original movie was a leap forward in special effects. You can't call anything CGI but Star Wars was the beginning of rethinking CGI and many of the people who worked on the movie went on to set up some of the first real special effects companies. ILM grew out of Star Wars and really made its place as the industry leader in the early years. The remarkable think about Star Wars and even the prequel movies is that most things were paintings with camera tricks and miniatures. Really a remarkable time of set building.
Yeah this version is awful and should become an illegal act to watch it. So cringey. I wont ever watch it myself.

You have no idea the impact this movie had on us when it came out. I was a 6 grader and Star Wars was magical.
I was 5 years old. I understood it perfectly. I don't have a lot of empathy for grown adults who are confused.
Carrie Fisher's hairdresser should have got a special award, her hair looks great in the 'space buns' style and in the medal scene.

This movie started modern special effects. EVERY Star Wars movie 4-6, and 1-3 set the standards for special effects and sound design. For 1977, NOTHING AT ALL LOOKED, SOUNDED, OR FELT like this movie did. It invented the term blockbuster as it was the first film to have audiences lined up for blocks, for days to see it.
I had a feeling at the start she would end up engrossed in the story. And after you see Rogue One (which leads directly into this episode, like right into the start of it), you'll never see this movie in the same light again.
Fun fact: George Lucas set-up ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) to do the VFX for Star Wars. ILM is an elite VFX house, it gave birth to Photoshop, Pixar and revolutionary movie technologies that have transformed modern filmmaking.
I feel sorry for reactors that go in assuming an "old" movie is automatically bad. You have to acknowledge when a movie was made and accept it then appreciate the acting, writing, directing and cinematography. Otherwise you're going to deny yourself the experience of some great movies.
That's so much lore and history within the Star Wars Galaxy over 5000+ years of history spanning across novels, games, comic books, animation, and of course the films. Here's some information with NO Spoilers going over the releases of the films and the reasons behind the numbering system that for many seems very confusing.
The Original Trilogy
First releasing in 1977 we have Star Wars. Yes originally A New Hope was only called "Star Wars" it wasn't until the re-release in 1981 that the film received the "Episode IV" marking and the title "A New Hope" in the opening crawl. Summed up in 1977 the film was just called Star Wars, no Episode IV or A New Hope people went to see Star Wars. George Lucas (Director and Creater of Star Wars) always intended for Star Wars to have a number attached to it with the goal of giving the audience the impression that they were walking into the middle of a film serial. The studio wouldn’t let him, but this changed once Star Wars became a hit and a number marking was included in every films since Empire Strikes Back.
A New Hope then known as Star Wars was followed by The Empire Strikes Back in 1980. The opening crawl of Empire began with "Episode V" but here's the thing this was before Episode IV was added to A New Hope's opening crawl which happened a year after Empire Strikes Back released so the audience in 1980 must of been thinking "Wait Episode V!!! Where's the other four Episodes?" pretty much how alot of youtubers reacted to seeing Episode IV in A New Hope wondering why they're starting on the forth film. But like I mentioned Episode IV was added later to A New Hope in 1981 so I think by then people had an idea of his reasoning and were much less confused by the fact they just happened to skip four films lol
Then we have Return of the Jedi from 1983 originally titled Revenge of the Jedi until it was changed to "Return" of the Jedi at the last minute as Lucas found the term to be unlike the Jedi, Revenge is not a Jedi term. You can still find advertising such as posters and trailers with the original title on them to this day. This film like Empire Strikes Back had the marking of Episode VI in it's opening crawl so by this time A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi were all known as Episodes 4, 5, and 6. Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are the only films that do not have Star Wars in their title along with their number marking only showing up in the opening crawl. A New Hope though because of it's many releases full title is Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope using the same title layout of the Prequals.
The EU
For a good decade there was very little Star Wars media a few retro games and cartoons like Droids in 1985 but it wasn't until the 1990s when Star Wars jumped back with the EU also known as the "Expanded Universe". Heir to the Empire from 1991 is credited for kickstarting the EU an amazing novel written by Timothy Zahn which took place 5 years after Return of the Jedi seen as the original Sequel Trilogy kickstarting decades worth of stories set after the films. The Timothy Zahn novels starting with Heir to the Empire turned into the Thrawn Trilogy and brought people back into Star Wars along with a whole new generation a good 9 years before the next Star Wars film, No one had an idea when the next Star Wars movie could release so they were hungry for Star Wars content.
There was also the amazing Tales of the Jedi comics set thousands of years before the original movies at the time of the Old Republic. Throughout the 1990s we saw a massive Star Wars rebirth in novels and video games which lasted all the way into the 2000s. Like i mentioned with a good decade without Star Wars people jumped at anything new related to the Galaxy Far Far Away, plus it was amazing storytelling.
The Prequel's
16 years after the release of Return of the Jedi we finally got the next Star Wars movie that being Star Wars: Episode l - The Phantom Menace releasing in 1999 just 5 months before I was born. This was Lucas plan all along to create Episodes 4, 5, 6 and then Episodes 1, 2, 3 when he was ready. The reason why it took 16 years is because the film world at the time didn't have the technology to make these films happen so he waited until technology caught up to his vison of these films. Not long after we got Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones in 2002 and then Revenge of the Sith in 2005 all three movies having their Episode markings in their title along with Star Wars. These films also grew around a new generation these being my introduction to the Star Wars galaxy along with many others as well.
Rise of Video Games and Animation | 2000s | Early 2010s
The 2000s also saw a massive rise in Star Wars video games along with novels and animation as well such as Clone Wars 2003 and the Season 7 long The Clone Wars show from 2008 to 2020. Alot of these dived into events showcased in the Prequals while others took place in between the Prequals and the Original Trilogy set in a period of time before and after the films. We also got Knights of the Old Republic in 2003 along with a sequel a year later set in the period of The Old Republic 4000 years before the events of the films exploring their own time period without having to worry about interfering with the events and lore of the films. Knights of the Old Republic was set a few 100 years after the Tales of the Jedi comics building off the lore featured in that era of Star Wars.
Disney Comes Knocking
Disney acquired Lucasfilm on October 30, 2012 with everything besides the 6 films being regraded as non canonical. The EU was branded as legends so that Disney could make room for their own Trilogy. Many fans did not like this at all but were open to seeing what Disney would do with the Star Wars IP. But thankfully people like Dave Filoni brought back many EU elements into canon again so it's a matter of not being canon unless we see it brought back to Disney era Star Wars.
Sequels & Spin Offs
In 2015 we got Star Wars: The Force Awakens followed by Star Wars: The Last Jedi in and finally Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019 this being the latest Star Wars film. For the first time in Star Wars history we also got spin off films such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016 and Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018 both set before the events of A New Hope.
Live Action TV & Disney Plus
In 2019 we also got the first live action Star Wars TV show that being The Mandalorian, premiering on the same day as the release of Disney Plus. This was followed by The Book of **** **** in 2021/2022 and Obi-Wan Kenobi followed by Andor in 2022 with Andor's film episode just dropping a two weeks ago from this comment. We also got animated cartoons as well such as Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi in the style of The Clone Wars animation. Clone Wars was cancelled when Disney bought Lucasfilm but with fan demand over the years they brought it back in 2019 with a film Season to finish off the show.

What you two are watching is the "special edition" version that director George Lucas released in 1997 after he went back, and redid the effects. That's why the special effects look so good for being a movie that came out in 1977.
41:41 Obi-Wan is dead. However, through the Force, his spirit continued to live on. That's how Luke was able to hear Obi-Wan's voice during the Death Star battle at the end.
The original trilogy are the ones I grew up watching. As much as I like the prequels(especially "Revenge of the Sith"), the OG trilogy are my favorites.
This was a great franchise to start on while we wait for "MoonKnight".

One thing you two have to realize is that when you bring up the "graphics" of the movie (the word actually you're looking for here is resolution, and also grain), the version that you're watching *isn't* the original that came out in 1977. This is the Special Edition that came out in 1997 (along with the Special Edition versions of the two sequels that followed). And because of that, you're actually seeing CGI from 1997 interspersed with the original film. So you have a film that is 45 years old, mixed with CGI that is 25 years old. Yes, it's outdated looking. But that has absolutely *nothing* to do with the scene where Obi-Wan died. That was intentional. In the Star Wars universe, as far as I know, when a Jedi dies their body disappears but they still exist as "force ghosts"....just like you saw when Obi-Wan was still able to communicate to Luke.
Technically becoming a Force Ghost is actually quite rare, when most Jedi and Force-Sensitives die they leave behind a body and their 'soul' or 'life force' is reabsorbed into the Force. Obi-Wan and Yoda learned a technique that would preserve their consciousness after death in the Clone Wars series and afterwards, Anakin was powerful enough that he was capable of doing it without the training, but generally speaking it's rare.

You have to realize that all the ships and special effects where all done my models, stop motion animation. and this style of special effects was not yet invented untill they where making these movies which made way for the effects for future films.
The musical score for this film and the ground breaking special visual effects completely transformed the film industry.
Star Wars came out in 1977. The parts you notice as CGI were added in 1997 when George Lucas had the films digitally remastered. All they had in 1977 were practical effects to work with. George Lucas's company, Industrial Lights and Magic, created a new way to film called Blue Screen. No one in the film industry had even imagined such a concept. They used the blue screen to film all of the space battle scenes. For the fighters, ships, Death Star, etc., the effects guy went out and bought every model kit they could get their hands on, then put various things together to create the various space scenes. They created the blasters, lightsabers, and so forth by purchasing a bunch of WWII weapons and modifying them, with Obi-Wan's lightsaber being fashioned from various parts, including a rifle-mounted grenade casing. Luke's lightsaber was fashioned from an old camera flash mount. They worked with what they had, and recreated the special effects industry. Not only that, but the blue screen was the staple until the movie The Matrix. In the Matrix, that team utilized what everyone knows today as the Green Screen.
As for Star Wars history, that would require a separate post entirely. If you have specific questions you want answered, I can do so, but I will not spoil anything for the next two films, nor the Prequels.
Sorry guys in 1997, I watched this when it was new in the theater and it was just ... jaw dropping good. You have to remember this was at a time when, there were no real video games. Even if, you went to a teenage arcade it would only be full of things like pin-ball machines, air hockey, electric football, etc. To understand this first ever "Star Wars "movie is simple, it is a fairly tail: ... future hero is raised by not their birth mother and father because to lose them would be to heart breaking... princess needs to be saved ... a rag tag group goes off to fight for a just cause... the evil empire receives a major defeat ... and the hero's that survive get metals and a possible chance for romance with the princess. This is the only "Star Wars" movie that, I watch over and over again. Why? It is because the movie tells a complete and full story (smile...smile).
this is so dope to watch someone enter this world with complete fresh eyes and ears. most people are exposed to the big reveals before even watching

Not really sure how "newer" graphics/cgi could make the scene where Obi-Wan literally disappears any more obvious or easy to understand, but... Glad to see Monica was able to engage more in in the story as the film progressed tho.
Oh man, I remember watching this in a drive in theater when it came out. I was 7 😆 I love seeing reactions to this movie.
The reason that early computers were that beige- white color is because of this film.
The models were made with a resin that was just naturally that color, and Lucas decided not to paint it, because the original color looked more novel and futuristic, at the time.
Then, that became the standard for what advanced technology should look like.

Back in 1977, NONE of us knew the terminology, places or ANYTHING, really. We just suspended all disbelief, sat back and absorbed what we could. Over the years, things like the lightsaber fights and special effects would improve....dramatically.
These movies really weren't about top-notch acting (although there are a fair amount of A-list actors in these over the years). It was the mythology and the FX that kept us "kids" engaged with the stories.
This movie was the perfect thing for an 11 year old me and my wildly active imagination. Nothing had ever come close to what this film did back in the day.
As you progress through this story, you will find that most of your questions will be answered. And if the films don't help, you can count on us fans to guide you through it all. We are ALWAYS ready, willing and able to help out new fans of the franchise.

Hey you two! I know older movies can be a drag. Bad graphics, bad acting, etc. But Star Wars really holds up. I'm happy that you're giving it a chance. And I'm so grateful that you're watching in release order. The machete order is just absolutely ridiculous.
Obi-Wan did die, but he became one with the force. This makes him more powerful because now he can help influence Luke.
The empire is inspired by WWII German troops. You may notice their helmets resemble old German War helmets.

Give Star Wars a chance, Monica. I didn't think I would like it but my professor dared me to watch it and I had to eat my words admitting I had never seen a character written as well as Darth Vader was, it's now my favorite of all time minus the trilogy they just released. I just couldn't get into the newer ones. .
Thank you for beginning this journey. Here’s some background info without getting into spoilers. This is only info from this movie.
There had been a Republic in which citizens of the galaxy enjoyed freedom. The Jedi Knights (think noble knights) protected peace in the Republic. They practice a religion focused on The Force. Obi-Wan Kenobi trains Luke’s father to be a fellow Jedi. Then the Emperor takes control and converts the Republic into a tyrannical Empire. Notice the use of the term “stormtrooper” reminds us of “nazi stormtroopers”.
Darth Vader has become seduced by the dark side of the Force. He hunts down the last strong threat to the Empire, which are the Jedi Knights. He betrays and murders Luke’s father.
A band of rebels begin striking back against the Empire.
Star Wars the greatest movie franchise EVER made. Coming up on 50 years old, you know it's the greatest when almost 50 years later, it's still going strong.
You have to actually read and pay attention to the opening crawl(the words on the screen at the beginning). The fact that Monica immediately asked "Who's this girl shows that you didn't. Every movie does that and it sets the stage for where you are and what is happening!
It is fun to watch a classic through the eyes of orhers... to watch the faces during scenes we love so well...
The pilots in the trench are basically decoys for the lead pilot..sacrificing themeelves

This was 1977. It was astounding. "Your devotion to that ancient religion...." That's what one person called it. Its more of a discipline rhan anything else. Imagine waiting 3 years to get some answers to your questions.

You'll grow to understand the universe as you get into the next few films. The Star Wars universe has concepts that need an explanation for people who aren't familiar with it and that happens gradually throughout the series. You'll learn a lot more about the force in the next film The Empire Strikes Back. You'll also understand what happened to Obi-Wan, it's something that needs a bit of explanation but I won't spoil that kinda stuff here.
The movies only get better as you fall in love with the characters and the unique universe Star Wars has. The creatures alone are enough to keep me interested, even without the interesting characters. Anyways, I'm sorta rambling now lol. Great video you two! @10:50 It took me a few viewings of this movie to realize that R2 had basically tricked Luke into removing the restraining bolt so he could get on with his mission.

Most of the effects in the original trilogy are practical. Anything that looks "CG" is CG that was added later. Some of it is controversial as to why it was added at all. George Lucas had an era of making things extra goofy in the 2000s, and then got all of it out of his system later. We are left with elements that look completely out of place, but also some touch-ups in general effects like the lightsabers looking better.
Also:
The whole Jabba scene was a deleted scene from the original. The original actor was a human and Harrison Ford stepped on a future "fake tail". It was removed because it didn't further the story of the original movie, just added onto the vision of the SW Universe, so it was added back in. This is why Harrison says the line "Jabba, you're a wonderful human being."
Additionally, much of the wide shots of spaceships leaving the spaceports have been redone so it doesn't look like a ship on a wire on a matte-painting, even though that is why the OG Star Wars are so cool, because so much of it was practical. CG just cinematically looks better for those shots most of the time.

If i were you, the best way to watch them would be 4,5,6 then 1,2,3 then you can sort of watch the others in any order you choose , once you have the first 6 done you'll understand the universe, the time each one is set and everything.
After you watch the first 6 i do recommend either the Clone Wars series OR The Mandalorian straight after

Marvel exists because of this movie. This movie created “modern visual effects”. Lucas created a company called ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) and then let Hollywood use that company as an effects studio. Flash forward to today: ILM does all of Marvel’s special effects.

George Lucas made three Star Wars films, then he decided to write a trilogy story that came before to explain how everything came to be. You have to remember, this came out in 1977, before digital, before CGI. Computer graphics didn’t exist. It was all miniatures shot in perspective with layered special effects. The early films are about the story, the heart in them. I suggest ANDOR. It stands alone and damn is it good! Acting, writing, cinematography, all of it. Especially if the older films miss the mark. You can start with Andor then Rogue One, opposite of its release but that’s what I would do. You don’t need prior SW knowledge before watching Andor.

iV drops you into a vast world, and it doesn't answer a lot. After V and VI, then you will be more informed about the universe, and probably more understanding of why these are some of the best scifi movies ever made. Episode V in particular is probably the most beloved Star Wars by fans.

Im not sure why you were so cringe on the effects. Its absolutely gorgeous! Yes, there are some imperfections and artifacts. But these are REAL physical spaceship models shot on soundstages. In other words, mostly everything you see in this movie is actually real. These days, that ship would probably look fake. You know CGI when you see it. It looks like a video game. I will take real practical effects any day over the ridiculous over-use of CGI in films today. You face palmed in the opening scene where the star destroyer flies over the camera. The shot is perfect, and amazing. Look at the detail on these models. Again, there are imperfections, but they are mostly from the film itself, and green-screen work. For 1977, its fantastic.
This came out in 1977...I saw it in the theater at age 6...the effects were mostly practical and groundbreaking for that time. As a child we went bananas for this type of movie. I wish you were born then...I'm not sure you'll ever understand the significance of this era of film making...but I'm glad you somewhat enjoyed it.
The thing is, if the movie's biggest significance is purely historical, then it's obviously not as good as you think it is. If she doesn't enjoy it on its own terms that's on the movie, not on her. You shouldn't need to be born in the 60s or 70s to enjoy a movie.

Wait until Empire. The quality goes up a LOT and the action is better.

Monica, think of Star Wars like the Harry Potter films. At first they start off very basic and stripped down in order to set up the story but as the movies progress, they get more and more intricate. Also, if you’re not a fan of the old style of films, thankfully there’s only 3 movies that take place within that time. Most of the Star Wars follow up movies use somewhat modern technology

i literally just yesterday finally watched the obi wan kenobi series that came out a few months ago (im a huge star wars fan, i grew up with it, i cant remember a time before star wars haha) and i absolutly loved getting back into some of these old characters
i think the further you come along and the more you understand the basics the more you will love it

I know I'm not the first to say this and I'm sure I won't be the last, but the version you watched was heavily edited. George Lucas had it retouched to add a lot of CGI to be more like his original vision for the movie.
I think what is funny is if Star Wars doesn't come along who knows where special effects are today. It really was before Star Wars and after Star Wars. It changed movies DRAMATICALLY.

For the 1997, 20th anniversary rerelease of this movie, the film got a CGI upgrade and a few scenes that were not used in the original production were added. Much of what you see in this version was not presented in the 1977 original movie however the movie back then was still greatly appreciated, obviously.

I watched this in the theatre shortly after it came out when I was four years old. Have re-watched it half-a-hundred times (at least) since, and it never gets tired. ❤
I was 5 when this came out, totally captivated me. And it's a privilege seeing it captivating new generations.
