  • This late spring / early summer we have redug 350 metres of the canal cut to its finished profile, and partially filled it with water. But our planning consent is for 600 metres of canal. So why have we stopped where we have? And if we are not currently digging more canal, what are we doing? Watch this video to find out.

Thank you for your words of encouragement. We are working steadily towards building the required embankment in the West. Material has to be added gradually and compressed to ensure that it is stable. Extention to the East will probably be postponed until the swing bridge is in place.

What are the chances of a bare root tree surviving when planted in august….

Fair point. Its not ideal timing. These trees were generously donated to us before we were really ready for them. To keep them alive they were temporarily planted along a fence line. Since then the fence has been removed, and they were now in danger of being damaged. Having moved them, we watered them each week during the hotter weather. We will see what happens in the spring. Fingers crossed.

May 2024 update. Of the 8 trees planted, 5 are looking very good. One is dead. The other 2 are not great, but are showing some signs of life.
