In 1997 I met the former owner of this truck in Windhoek / Namibia. I invited him to stay on my premises for a couple of days and he mentioned his sensitive situation about his health. At that time this Mercedes 1113 towed a trailer with a Suzuki Jeep (-?-) on it. That small car enabled him to be more flexible in the cities. Years later I heard that he managed to travel in America, …but that he sadly passed away. By a chance I discovered this video, what a nice and emotional recall! Thanks, Oskar, and regards from Namibia!
Wow " the globe is a village " thanks to you and the internet, I am sure Peter likes to hear that as well !
Eu vou falecer... e não vou a lugar nenhum
eu sou tão quebrado que assisto

Suzuki Samurai
@@jrambo7495 samurai was the model name for all the markets or just for north America ?
That's my dad! Nice video!
Hey, it's so cool and amazing to see Peter after all this years !!!
That's cool! I hope your dad can handle the fame.
My Father was born 1933 South Africa, when I was born in 86 he was a carting all sorts of building materials with his 1133 Mercedes benz Daimler chrysler straight 6! He loved it and drove it till he passed! What an awsome video so much nostalgia.
Thank you for sharing it with us !
That's an amazing unit. Kudos to the gentleman for keeping the original builder's vision alive. Thank you so much for showcasing this one.
You bet! Thanks for commenting !
What appeals to me is that the whole rig is basic and functional. Simplicity is elegance.
You nailed it !
True. I'd say the same of any naked Elephant.
And maybe 5 mpg, great!
I worked on those trucks patiently for 30 years, and the devotion of the Germans rarely disrupted when they said a craft for you and your grandchildren
So true but a dying statement, because everything need to be quick turn around and fast money these days. Long-lasting machines are poison for your own business. Thanks for sharing.
Dream rig!
Solid, strong, non plastic mechanical beast with no electronic or DEF issues to strand you in the middle of nowhere.
I would take this straight forward rig over a $900k foo-foo rig in a heartbeat.
Nice work!
Thank you total agree !
More like a nightmare, will not do highway speeds in most if any states, top heavy, in-efficient.
This was the good time of German engineering 😢 build for decades ❤
Couldn't agree more !
Here in Brazil you can easily find many of these MB trucks still running. They were really made to last for years on work.
The most beauiful truck ever. Wel done fr keeping it runing in such beautiful condition, Peter. Dankeschön!
Thank you too!
@@oscaroverlander_MB1222AFSir is this truck powered by Mercedes Benz OM 352 series Six Cylinder Naturally Aspirated Diesel Engine?
What a beautiful old Mercedes 1113. Reminds me of Germany in the 1970s, when those trucks were all around at fire departments and construction sites.
Thank you !
This truck has a soul. Very impressive. I would love to have a truck like this.
Thank you !
In my country Pakistan these 4*4 are used to transport 20 tons of Granite rocks up and down hill from mining sites to gang saws. Lots of spares even the windshields are abundant here.
Thank you for sharing and I guess you have a business on hand, selling parts to collectors or people in need.
if you have access to such vehicles you are sitting on a goldmine.
@@TheInfidel_SlavaUA the workshops of these vehicles is just near my village where I do often see various parts and cabins lying here and there for sale. I can send you the pictures if you need any.
Hey Oskar! It’s Christian from Denmark. Great video! That’s a 1965 LAF1113A, 3.6m wheel base I believe. I have a 1978 LAF1113B 4.2m wheel base I’m building right now, as I’ve wrote about earlier.
Your friend’s truck is very nice, I’m really impressed, and a great motivation for me to get mine done, please let him know!👍🏻😁
Hi Christian thank you for commenting and I called Peter today and he says thank you and the most of luck for your project !
That thing could conquer North Africa all on it's own.
lol
A super excellent interview, the owner seems to be a very friendly person and quite eloquent. The interviewer is a real Pro, I've enjoyed it thoroughly!
Thanks a lot !
Absolutely wonderful !!! When you understand the mechanical engineering of the vehicle and diy design of the camper the unit really can be appreciated. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Well said!
Commenting at 10 seconds. From the exterior alone it looks like a beast.
Thanks a lot !
I absolutely LOVE this. If I ever win the lottery, this is the template.
Thank you. I don't wait for the Lottery win, I am building one my self lol.
Und er hat noch den guten, alten Verbandkasten, Vorbildlich :)
lol thanks
Wow this is awesome love to live in this for life, really!!!
Cool thank you !
I love everything about that rig,
Thank you very much !
That's a Truck built to last... Won't find newer ones this quality 🤔 greetings from Germany 😊
Thanks for watching!
Great looking truck for sure. Love those old Mercedes simple, but effective same vintage as me 1965!
Right on!
I've never seen this model of Unimog before, what an AWESOME adventure truck ! WOW 👍😆
Glad you liked it
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_short-bonnet_trucks
This is not an Unimog. It is its own series called LA a 4x4 of the L series, built from 1958 to 1997
@@greenbimoon Ahhh that explains why I haven't seen it then ! LoL
So is there a factory twin cab Unimog ?
Amazingly beautiful truck, thank you for the tour!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.
Now that's my kind of RV - simple strong just the right size - i LOVE it - 😀❤👍
Glad you think so ! Thanks
What a great looking beast 🦍💪 of a truck.
Thanks for sharing his truck with us.
No problem 👍Glad you liked it !
Congratulations on your viral video and growth in sub s 👏
Now make another similar video perhaps of another rig near you.
Or do a compilation remix of your red Feuerwehr truck when it arrived, when you chopped it, and how it looks not.
These longer complication videos are going viral. But more so you are giving your new followers something that show a cool expedition rig in build stage
Helping them transition from looking at rigs to looking at how they are made.😊👍😉🛠
I Agree. Beautiful BC. That drive along that big lake was awesome.. Amazingly beautiful truck, thank you for the tour!.
Glad you enjoyed it
Fantastic dude
Thanks ✌️
The owner is as interesting as the vehicle he drives.
Lol yes he is !
This Rig is the Best in my opinion ! I believe with regular care this Truck can run forever.
No doubt!
The funnest old man i ever seen
Yes he is quite the character. Thanks for commenting !
Your welcome 🙏
Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the paren't of all the others.
Thanks.
The build quality of this snub-nose Mercedes is over the top. Not only do the doors close with the reassuring Mercedes thunk, even the snubnosed hood does as well.
Thanks you !
Brilliant Peter was a super host.brilliant truck and to get 12mpg for a truck that size is awsome
Thanks a lot !
It's 7mpg.
I've always love the look of these old Mercedes.
Thanks.
Lot of mercedes trucks are still working well in malaysia, very strong superb engineering
Thanks for sharing !
Simple and practical. Not sophisticated and costly. Gets the job done without breaking bank.
True thank you.
To me, this vehicle and man have an aura of a somewhat lost expedition/adventure period.
Hahaha mysterious right ? Cheers
Great old truck. I remember them from my youth.
Thanks for sharing !
Definitely a beautiful beast. Love it. 👍
Couldn't agree more!
Built when things were made to last what a amazing truck 🚚 enjoy your journeys
Thanks a lot !
Good old German truck and matching accents! 😉 awesome that you keep it rolling! Greeting from the Netherlands!
Glad you enjoy it!
Old is gold very nice n strong truck..
Thank you !
Absolutely LOVE this unit!!!
Thank you !
Sick !! 👏👏
Thanks
I Agree. Beautiful BC. That drive along that big lake was awesome.
Right it is beautiful the area you saw in the video called "sea to sky" and follows the shore of the pacific ocean, sometimes with luck you can see whales there.
Thank you very much! This is an incredible ADV Truck!
Glad you like it!
Брутальный Автодом! И его хозяин тоже! ))) спасибо)
Спасибо, я рад, что вам понравилось!
I LOV THIS. I am a 2000 born and I am really sad that such kind of beauty is not manufactured any more, this is so mechanical and doesn't have semi conductor stupid microprocessors with stupid software. I love this pure old school truck.
I couldn't agree more with you !
The sea to sky highway! So beautiful there!
Yes it is . Thank you !
Aqui no Brasil tem muitos desses Mercedes cara de gato apenas com 2 portas que projeto bem montado um forte abraço dos brasileiros
Obrigado por compartilhar!
the best touring truck i ever saw, i would definitely want something very similar to this
Glad you like it!
I remember a few of these Mercs on the roads as a young kid more than 50 years ago.
Thanks.
The metal strips are called Marston Mats and yes , they were used to make runways for WW2 aircraft. They were easily replaced if the strip was bombed. Throw in some dirt and attach new ones and your back in business in a short time.
Yes and it is super interesting I have never heard about those mats brilliant engineering from the past. Thanks for commenting.
Stunning wagon old is gold :D thx for sharing the magic
Right ? Thank you !
Crazy how the Germans made do with SO LITTLE POWER in their fire apparatus. Here in North America fire engines have always been super, super-powerful--2-stroke high-speed V12s back in the day, or even big gassers like Hall-Scotts here and there. And yet, the Germans still put out plenty of fires using 130ish HP Mercedes trucks. Very cool to see the differences, and what a great conversion this thing is. Thanks for sharing and thanks Peter!
Thank you for your kind comment !
This is fantastic. Thank you for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Any rigg with this toilet and shower set up gets my vote! Brilliant.
Right on.
Remembers me being a small kid, my uncle had one os those. I loved it and still do. Would love to have a rig like this!
Cool thanks for sharing !
A world traveling BEAST
So true ! Thank you !
beautiful beast!
Sure is!
very cool. Hopefully i see this guy driving around one day.
That would be cool!
what a cool camping truck!
It really is!
Wow.... that's a beautiful truck.
It sure is!
What a beautiful old Mercedes. Those big super single Michelins may be expensive but they look great on the truck. I am surprised he drove all the way to Tuktoyaktuk north of the Arctic Circle, very impressive.
Yes what a trip this must have been. I hope to be able to do that as well one day.
In Brazil these trucks (1113) still run strong transporting everything. But they are all 6x2. You can still get every part you want here for these trucks
Thanks for sharing.
The MERCEDES BENZ 1519, Engesa 6x6 built in Brazil for the Brazilian military can make an exceptionally good overlander. I saw one in Porto Alegro on a visit to Brazil during world cup 2014 and was quite impressed.
Love the living space and isolated toilet
Awesome thanks.
one of the best machines man has ever built
Thank you !
22:23 - Scheissenhausen 😂😂😂. It´s called - Scheisshaus.
Great truck and great owner.
Thx for this nice video.
Thank you too!
Great home built RV that has everything one could need and it quite capable.
Thank you !
das Buch hat mich neugierig gemacht- nice truck, nice vid!
Thanks a lot !
WoW, strong truck , very good built, least for ever. In Saudi Arabi this model of Mercedes trucks are popular her, many people use it as water tank for their cattle, going every where in desert, with a good driver nothing could stop it.
Very cool thanks for sharing ! 🆒
The Beast is the Guitar of Bernie Marsden!
Thanks
really reall nice...a dream !
Thank you.
💛💛💛wow, nice vlog .Greetings from Poland 🤩🤩🤩
Awesome! Thank you!
Und das Kork finde ich super!!!!❤
Thank you !
What a great name for an old Merc!! ;) We had to subscribe!!
Thanks for subbing!
Yes this old Firetrucks can run fast even in the Low-Gear..
Thank you.
Wunderschönes Fahrzeug
Thank you !
Great video - love the practicality & no nonsense, rugged simplicity of this rig. Most modern junk is ridiculously overpriced, over complex, fragile & falling to bits with a few years. It makes sense to pay to the extra in fuel & have something that’s possible to repair yourself without needing a damn laptop (not that there’s much to go wrong with it) 😊
My model MB 1222 is a little younger 1992 but also everything mechanical no laptop needed. Every village blacksmith can help to repair it.
@@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
Way to go - there’s a lot to be said for old world tech & practicality. I guess it’s only a matter of time before these older vehicles are legislated off the road though.
Or, that your $250k rv is now ten yrs old, and the beach rv parks dont want you in their park!
I have seen trucks like this before here in the UK. As soon as I saw it I thought 'Fire Truck'. You would have thought he would have had power steering fitted, I know I would, lol. There was one of those six wheeled airport fire tenders for sale on an auction round here recently. It was very futuristic looking and would have made a brilliant camper/overlander........
Wonderful truck from 1965 upto 2023 fifty eight years on the road with that beautiful look that's amazing
Thank you guys for commenting !
I wish i can owen one of those....amazing history..!!
Thanks
Nice truck!
Thanks 👍
That is a great rig.

Oscar , what a nice video. I am planning to get one of those - may be a newer one
That sounds great I have a newer one Mercedes Benz 1222 build 1992 you can see that one in my videos.
