Phil has so much strong, relentless, positive energy that even Neal seemed to be in a good, hopeful mood. I'm sure he'll get over it, but it was great to witness Phil 's steamroller just flatten out all the usual sturm und drang so nicely.
Every time I think of skipping an episode because i don't know the guest, I end up watching and loving it.
Had the exact same experience just now!
something about the way Phil talks just makes me happy and giddy, its infectious and i love it
I love his show and his laugh heeheeeeee!
Infectious is the perfect word for Phil! His wisdom is amazing.
I always thought Phil was kinda goofy but this episode gave me a new respect for the dude. I appreciate his positive outlook. Something he said that I try to ask myself all the time is "what if it all goes right"
Neal: When you started, Bourdain’s on the air…and there’s a few shows like this.
Phil: You know how I sold the show? I sold one line. “I’m exactly like Anthony Bourdain if he was afraid of everything.” 😂
Brilliant distillation of the premise!
And Brennan missed it !?
He’s a human ray of sunshine. I love him! Thank you for having him on ❤
Phil is one of my comedy heroes. Incredible writer, improviser, his documentary Exporting Raymond is genuinely insightful, and his new show is fun as hell. He rules.
Me and my wife just rewatched the whole show, and it really is amazing how 90% of the episodes take place entirely within two sets: Ray and Deb’s house, and Frank and Marie’s house.
It’s an excellently structured show. Jokes and charisma and amazing comedic performances. It takes a simple premise very seriously.
If we'd all try to be a little bit like Phil, this world would be a much better place.
We need people like Phil in life. Yeah he’s positive and all that, but it’s not that shallow, oppressive type. His ability to participate in the simple joys of life and share it with people is the sort of thing we need more of.
He's exactly how every successful, financially taken care of person should be but unfortunately isn't. My wife works in higher end retail (not Tiffany's but not Ashley's) and every day she recounts almost the same story - a woman who does not work but has a lot of money and only time on her hands is nasty and miserable to everyone. No reason to be anything but happy and nice to people. Same with some couples who walk in. Proof that money doesn't buy happiness but, as she says when she comes home exhausted every day, it should.
Love Phil. Watched all of his Netflix show. He’s always so positive and down for anything.
There was one Friends and it was Living Single ❤
Man, always great to see "how the sausage is made." Great shows, folks! Thanks!
I ❤ Phil! His travel/food show inspires me to be more adventurous in my food choices when I'm traveling, and I love him for that!!
I don't think Neal gets how awesome Phil is.. His shows have always been a beautiful blend of funny and heartwarming. He is a genius in his own right. The interview was a bit awkward especially at the end.
Drink every time Neal says "great". 😆😆😆
Such a shut down response right.
I'm a simple man, I see Phil Rosenthal on Neal Brennan's podcast, I click
Time for a new comment,friend.
@@josef2012 cry more
I don't remember the last time I listened to someone THIS articulate and charming speak for 65 minutes.
So so excited to see Phil on your podcast! I love your podcast and him so love seeing this!!
I respect Rosenthal's determined positivity. That's the book he should write next. Hint, hint.
Awesome to see Phil on and love his show Somebody Feed Phil. Appreciated, cheers!
Phil optimism is infectious but he also has depths and extensive skills. Great episode.
Another good ep. Know Phil's stuff but now understand him more. Deeper respect
This is one of my favorite Blocks epsiodes so far! Could listen to you both chat for hours more! Please arrange a Part 2 for the future!
7:48 - "You have to establish character and philosophy before you start bending it." --- WHOA! that should be etched in stone!
I'm so glad I found somebody feed Phil in the way beginning when he started
Neal seemed almost immediately put off by Phil's unrelenting positivity, like he was struggling to listen to him without telling him to shut up, or making fun of him.. He managed to keep it together, though his constant "yeah"'s were a little impatient at times. But I'd love to have been able to hear his inner monologue while being bombarded with a level of happiness Neal likely never knew existed, and probably still questions whether it was authentic or not, or if Phil is just somehow too dumb to see the negative side that, at times, Neal seems to see almost exclusively. Neal's hard work on himself, and newfound positive attitude was put to the test trying to keep up to Phil's inability to say anything negative about anyone, or anything. In many ways, he's the anti-Neal lol
THIS 🤌👏👏
The first chapter in the classic book "Meditations," by Marcus Aurelius, is only his gratitude entries. Worth the read, on so many levels.
12:22 😂 luv this. Kudos to the editor making that zoom in.
I'll definitely be watching this again sometime when I need a pick me up.
Neal, love all your episodes! Phil Rosenthal such a ray of sunshine, love him. Have watched this episode twice.
This is soooo good and about time! Super enjoyable. Kudos to both!
I can't be the only person who thinks Ali Siddiq would be an IDEAL guest. Especially now that he's promoting the latest edition of his autobiographical standup series???
Phil seems like such a genuinely fun person
"First of all, I'm an American. I need super absorbency."🤣
I find him adorable 🥰
I love Phil! His food show on Netflix is great ❤
Was I the only person who was looking forward to a Christopher Eccleston episode?
Love seeing Phil making the podcast rounds lately. What a great soul.
Everbody Loves Phil. (The Stanley Myron Handleman line alone....). This piece is candy. Probably the best in the series so far.
Neal should do an episode of phil's podcast.
Phil’s wife was fantastic on Raymond as well!!!
What he's describing as OCD is not. It's a routine or being a creature of habit. When you think, "if I don't follow this routine, or do things in this order, something bad will happen", that's more OCD. That's not all OCD is but just an example.
Phil is the first person on Blocks I had no recognition of from the image on the thumbnail. I discover on watching that was MY fault, and I knew him for years!!! I know who he frigging is NOW!
(I actually thought I kind of recognized from maybe a Brit-com at first?)
Phil's happiness, being an artist through Covid, kept me level headed 😅❤
Kickin out the bangers 😂
Phil was soooo fun, yet oddly that was maybe Neil’s most awkward ending. He usually nails it. What happened there.
Either way this is one of Neil’s better episodes cause Phil was so uplifting.
Dam, your followers count has doubled in six months. Great job 👏
WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE FEED THAT MAN!?
My favorite sitcom ever. Italy episode is season 5. Arguably the best season.
I am with Claudia Jessie, Phil Rosenthal is the best. I respect how joyful he is, without being too much or fake. I adore his work and hope that Netflix continues his show for a very long time. Great show Neil.
If being adorable, kind and hilarious is cool, consider Phil Miles Davis. ❤️
A happy hungry man, is traveling all across the sea and the land. He's trying to understand the art of pasta, pork, chicken and lamb.
This episode should be called “Unblocked”
This is a recent highlight episode. Great conversation.
In Neal’s words, that episode was “yeah…great”.
Thank you for your service. Hope you have a great day h'ey. Be well. Respect Neil.
Phil has given the world many great pieces of himself! Somebody feed Phil is the greatest... he is just a wonderful human, I would love to eat a meal with Phil.
He reminds me of Garry Marshall as the devil in Hocus Pocus, in the best way.
what Phil says about Letterman reminds me of something similar i heard Craig Ferguson say about him in a similar scenario discussing World Wide Pants overseeing the Late Late Show which was that he (Dave) had given Craig the most valuable thing u can give a creative person which was "space".
Someone feed Phil is a great show because you have Phil you have atmosphere you have locales that we only dream of strange foods we didn't know came from those places and there's always friendly people it makes you want to go to these places and meet them. It's National Geographic meets The Galloping Gourmet😎
Phis is adorable. He and his wife are great.
What a fun & lively guy! No wonder ELR was so successful. ❤
Phil's energy here is more of a ramps episode than blocks. Not that he had no adversity that stepped on his joy or his purpose but that he had the hurdles and did the things you need to do to overcome them. Like replacing that generic angel on shoulder, and devil on the other, to validate your reactions, instead just have a Phil push both of them off and be like "No, those are both horrible ideas, try this instead.". Homie is like the embodiment of us being the only real impediment to our own joy or fulfillment and that we chose the other thing as long as we stay aware.
Neal - I get it - you work for a living, you deserve to get paid...BUT, OMG, the commercial interruptions in this podcast reminded me why I stopped watching some shows on TV! I don't regret watching this one with Phil, because I'm such a fan of his - and you, of course - but, I typically watched every single one of these before...even with people I was not familiar with, but not anymore. I'll just watch the ones where I'm a mega-fan of the guest...that's how much I hate commercials.☮
I have watched every episode. Love them all. When will you have Emo Philips on? I'm sure that would be an incredible conversation!
Supporting Neal
Somebody feed phil now 🎶 🎵 😅
It's hard to believe a guy this nice and centered managed to make it in the back stabbing world of Hollywood.
Great...
What level patreon do I need to sign up for to get this song NEAL!!!!! cough up the goods dammit lol
This guy is gonna be the best grandpa
Omg PHIL!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
Neal's gotta get Ray on the show
The axe forgets, but the tree remembers.
I miss Phil's parents. They were lovely.
"You are emotionally arrested at the age you become successful because that's the moment people stop saying 'yes' to you." - Phil R.
It feels somehow wrong that they couldn't pause for a moment and let Richard answer one or two questions
I really want to watch/listen to a lot of these eps when I see the guest, but the ads are so ubiquitous that I no longer can.
I, or anyone that values their time, can not turn an episode on and simply let it play while doing chores or working or whatever ppl do while listening. The ads require the listener to be fully at the ready, prepared to hit the “skip” button every 3-5 mins at minimum.
Maybe Neal sees this or the right person close to Neal, and they can fix the issue so ppl like me that WANT TO LISTEN, can listen once again.
Ever try a DIFFERENT browser? It might be BRAVE of you to do so (hint hint)
Get youtube premium. I see no ads.
Firefox supports uBlock origin, it's a newer/better version of Adblock Plus. Chrome is getting rid of their uBlock origin extension this month, so if you use Chrome, you'll have to use a different one. Ther3 are several adblockers 5hough and you should be able to find one that works regardless of the browser you use. You don't have to install the TOR browser. Safari, chrome, Firefox, opera, et al....
@@dpclerks09 I use the app, Fap.
Holy shit.. Tampa Tony on Blocks!
That "Cuts" is NSFW. 🥵 good lord Brennan!
Never thought I'd hear him say gangbang, lol. He would make a great live-action Gru.
❤
When I saw he had OCD listed, I was like “yay! Me too!”… but he’s got that “positive ocd”… which kinda bummed me out. 😂
Love this podcast but feel like sometimes Neal is not here to talk but is looking for blocks out of his guests. 😆Phil may have the least blocks out of any human on earth. hahaha he is such a good guy living his best life
who is editing this with weird random and awkward reaction closes ups?
❤️🔥
that's a fun dude
When you take emotion out you are basically a robot maybe sociopath. However, you might be able to exchange worry for something else that is less uncomfortable.
🎶CHICKEN AND LAAAHAAAMB 🎶
This guy is cool.
Don’t take a shot every time Neal says “great”
You can tell no one to end the podcast quickly lol
That's not ocd. That's your body is more or less addicted to it which is a good thing especially considering what you do for a living your body needs to keep up a natural rhythm
Phillllllll
For the alg
There was ONLY one friends and it was "LIVING SINGLE". Have Queen Latifa on.
Letterman is so gangsta
for the algo
Thailand is definitely a mess, but it's a fun mess. You have to get out of Bangkok. Go to smaller cities. I just don't like being around a bunch of tourists who are super consumers. Thailand has a lot of that in the major cities.
I feel so bad for Neal. He had such a rough upbringing with no love, he can't relate to some guests with great parents.
