    • @garytitone853
      @garytitone853 Před 11 měsíci +1

      It seems fairly simple. Diversified Career Span Setlist with plenty of TFTO and Turn Of The Century getting a big applause from me. There are Trevor Rabin Era YES songs I would prefer. Honestly ROL is more about a Yes pop song with vocals in the setlist. A popular Yes song from those times. So in producing a full show, we get that one pop song, so I don't even expect Steve Howe to play like Trevor. For me its not important at all to focus on Steve's Solo. Steve fits the job for that brief few bars of soloing, all of 15 seconds, Its over and done and the show moves on to many amazing moments. We get plenty of Steve Howe of what Steve Howe does best in this show. I was quite surprised to hear some Yes fans think Steve did not have a solo moment in this show. Do they know this material?
      In a career spanning show 1 Trevor Rabin Era Yes song is enough. That period certainly kept the band alive. Unfortunately songs like ROL were more connecting with the audience than new works of that time that had been modeled in the classic era tradition. While I lean heavily to traditional early Yes, from Yes to Drama material, in a 2 hour show it's impossible to touch all bases. As far as Trevor Rabin era Yes, the track Walls from Talk seems a perfect one and done Trevor Rabin Era finale. Wait what am I TALKing about, Endless Dream. As far as another song many fans may care replaced, would I be happier if both ROL and ISAGP were not played. YES. At least we don't have to hear Owner Of A Lonely Heart Again. For those life long YES fans on their 50th or 100th or more YES show what can we expect? Roundabout and I've Seen All Good People are like The Rolling Stones playing Satisfaction
      As a life long Yes fan I would prefer a long list of rarely performed material that was not included in this show, I'd go for a song from the many rarely played songs from the Peter Banks era but thankful for hearing a few of those in the last several decades.
      It's 2023 and I look at the water of optimism that's in the glass of Yes. Lots of great material in this show and it's only the beginning of this tour. One of many Yes tours I've been happy to see since the 70s. They could play a 6 hour show and I would still be hoping for many songs that could not make any 6 hour Yes setlist. I'm feeling brave. Even a 12 hour setlist I'd be missing something, How about 18 Hours, YES.....

    Steve Howe sounds terrible here. Why play the 80s stuff if he’s just gonna sound like a 10 year old playing at his first talent show? Learn the song or don’t play it Steve! I’m admittedly not a fan of this version of “Yes”, but even I know they have more potential to sound good than this.
    I’m a Howe fan too, so don’t give me any of that “he’s putting his own spin on it” crap; this is not reinterpreting the material, this is sheer laziness and pettiness on Howe’s part. Nobody (including me) is asking Howe to do an exact cover of what Rabin played, just learn the song and write a guitar solo that lives up your own greatness instead of limping through it. Rabin learned the ‘70s material and made changes that fit his ‘80s style, Howe doesn’t even try to make his style work with with the ‘80s stuff. I know this because Howe sounded great playing ‘80s music with Asia, so he should be able to make this sound good but clearly he doesn’t give a crap.
    I would be embarrassed if I played that bad. I was hoping Jay Schellen on drums would help pick up the tempo so they don’t sound so lifeless, but obviously he’s slowing down just so Howe can keep up. Yes’s reunion at the Hall Of Fame actually sounded like Yes and was arguably their best performance in a decade; they should have set aside their differences and reunited for a tour. Glad Howe is still playing, but he doesn’t seem to have the dignity to give people his best effort which is sad.

    Steve Hackett treats his old material SO much better

    • @garytitone853
      @garytitone853 Před 11 měsíci +5

      Firstly I love Steve Hackett. We can see how GTR was only a minor representation of Hackett or Howe's careers, fortunately little to nothing of that is played by either guitarist today but if I went to a Steve Hackett show and he wanted to play one GTR song, I'd have no problem with that. Pointedly Steve Howe has nothing to do with the creation of ROL, it's just one pop song from a long career of Yes as a band .
      Being that you mention a guitarist, Steve Howe was not involved in this "old material". Listen to the entire show and I am sure you will hear large amounts of Steve Howe giving full respect to many of his old material guitar parts including Time And A Word which he also had nothing to do with except posing for a band photo for the US LP release.
      ROL is one song from a diverse setlist of a long history of Yes. The band includes one pop song from that era of Yes. They could play 18 hours of Old Yes material that is far more in tune with Steve Howe'a sonic landscape .What we have here is one 80s era Pop Yes that Trevor Rabin was involved with. The solo section here comes and goes faster that Steve Howe can change through his mass quantity of guitars.Steve Howe remains one of the most influential guitarists of the original prog rock era. Bands and musicians can span a very long period of time. Let's be thankful Steve Howe has and continues to bring the world his talents.

    I don't mind Yes playing some Rabin songs, even though none of the current members were in the band at that time. Kind of strange when you think about it. A significant era of the band has no members from that era. But this is Yes, the only Yes now. So I'm of the opinion all eras should be represented. Im curious why this is the only song from that era they ever play now, and rarely at that. Howe has note in the past a few songs the Rabin era did that he thought were actually pretty good. Why not puck say 2 or 3 of them and do them. And I know Owner of a Lonely Heart has its detractors. But it was their only #1 hit. They must be the only band that never plays it's biggest hit 🤔. Saw the Yes line-up in 2017 on the Fragile/Drama tour. It was a mess. Geoff Downes couldn't play the Wakeman stuff, Bill Sherwood and Alan White were out of sync and sometimes confuses about the structure. Howe had to show them the changes several times. And the singer was a pale copy of Jon Anderson. They should not do this. The ARW line-up was MUCH better.

    Ok, let’s be clear - I really like Steve Howe as a musician. He has a very unique sound and style that put an indelible stamp on much of Yes’ music.
    This is not one of those songs. It doesn’t fit him at all, and given his well known disdain for that era’s music I cannot fathom why they are playing it.
    I don’t know if it’s true, but the late (and definitely great) Chris Squire allegedly stated, “Trevor Rabin can do a credible Steve Howe imitation, but not the opposite.” Whether he actually said it or not, this and 9012Live certainly give credence to that idea.
