The poor audio quality doesn't do justice to this amazing song, one must hear the studio version to properly appreciate this, I think
I agree. Still good here. But just stellar on the original studio recording.
totally agree... it all seems a bit frantic. The subtleties are lost.
That's exactly right my God what a suffering is been.
My ALL TIME Favorite Guitarist!! STEVE HOWE !!! Ledgend!!
I got to see him with Yes and Asia . Simply Amazing !
I love that guy too. I have to give Bill Bruford some love also, though. Although, I couldn't tell if it was him in this video, I never really got a good look at the drummer.
@@maybedrinkin3241 It was Alan White in the Video. This was from the Yes movie "Yessongs" It was filmed after Bill Bruford left the group. You can google the Film.
@@stephenignatz8364 Right, Bruford left in 72 and Alan White replaced him. Yessongs came out a year later.
Soooo much Jazz in this. They would throw 7 time changes and several key changes all into the same song. Master musicians to say the least.
One of the greatest performing bands it has ever been my pleasure to see in concert, four times. This particular version of YES is Steve Howe-Guitar, Jon Anderson-Vocals, Chris Squire-Bass, Rick Wakeman-Keyboards and Bill Bruford-Drums. Their most famous song is probably "Roundabout". These gents are from England.
It's actually Alan White on the drums here. Bruford had already left to join King Crimson.
Okay, I couldn't tell because there was no good shot of him. Mr. White is pretty damn good himself. Thanks for the info.
@@bobschenkel7921
No worries,YW. Bruford actually is still in the band on a couple of tracks that made it onto the Yessongs triple live album...Perpetual Change and Long Distance Runaround/The Fish. Which are actually easily the best quality audio recordings on the entire album, much clearer sounding than the muddy audio on the rest. IMO,Perpetual Change is the best cut on all of Yessongs. Highly recommend if you've never heard it.
As I said in my original comment, I've seen YES four times, three with Trevor Rabin on Guitar instead of Steve Howe, Oh well, Trevor is pretty good too. Always great and well played, seen them in Worcester, Mass, Bethlehem, Pa, Camden, N.J. and Philly. YYYYEEEESSSS!!!!
Try Yes
And You And I
I think Donna will recognize “Roundabout.” Thx y’all!
Anime fans recognize this one, from Jojo's Big Adventure, but if you don't know this song, you weren't alive in the 1970's.
Extraordinary song from an extraordinary band full of musical mastery.
I've seen YES 49 times live. Best band, ever. Period. Starship Trooper...... or Awaken....... next, please.
I agree with this. One of the original supergroups, playing complicated and difficult arrangements - even better live.
Astounding. When Yes hit their stride they were just about incomparable.
Simply the greatest live act I ever had the privilege of witnessing.
Fearless onstage.
@@frankhoulihanfh4972 ....Agree.
@@frankhoulihanfh4972 I only saw them twice (Tarrant County Convention Center, Ft. Worth, '75 and '78) but my God what astonishing performances they were! I've never seen a group more dedicated to their unique musical craftsmanship. They were the masters of prog rock!
Congratulations ladies! You have just "stumbled upon" the greatest band ever created. Their catalogue is vast and you have just scratched the surface. Pick almost anything from 1970 through mid 80's and you can't go wrong. The Close to the Edge album (all three tracks), "Close to the Edge", "And You and I" and Siberian Khatru". "Awaken" ...featuring keyboardist Rick Wakeman on Cathedral Pipe Organ, "Starship Trooper", "Roundabout", "Ritual", "I've Seen All Good People/Your Move". I could go on, but...just check-em-out, you'll be impressed.
I've been dancing to Roundabout for 53yrs
I was going to say that 😎☮️❤️
ᎩᏋᎦ! Totally agree. Though it’s a long track, “Close to the Edge”, has blown the mind of just about every reaction channel that has covered it. With at least one that I have followed for years calling it “maybe the best song he ever heard”. And before he started his reaction channel, he was mostly a hip-hop and R&B guy.
To quote Rick Wakeman: Jon Anderson wanted to save the planet…while living on a different one….YES…organised chaos.
Great pick. Yes is one of the most talented Rock bands. They have many great songs.Try more !
I'm almost 67. They are my favorite band of all time. Musical wizards! I'm sure you have suggestions. Can't go wrong with any of them. Have a wonderful day ladies!!!
Loved the reaction Kathy, Lulu and Donna! Yes was one of the great progressive rock bands of the 70s and 80s. Very unique sounds and compositions! They had many hits so I'm sure Donna has heard them or of them before.
Chris Squire was one of the greatest bassists in rock. Maybe the best. RIP
This is the best and most talented men on the planet. Then and now!! I’ve subscribed to you! Simply for loving the band I grew up with! There is no band or artists like them!!
Please listen to more YES!!
I’ll give you some suggestions: “starship trooper, perpetual change, heart of the sunrise, …and you and I”. To start…. and when you’re absolutely ready to have your mind blown?? “Close to the edge”!!
I want to return to see your feelings after these masterpieces!!
Much love to you all 👋🏼🥰💖💖💖
Not the one song that I would have started off on, but still a good song. I would have started with "Roundabout" or "Long distance runaround". YES, has a lot of GREAT songs, and is a very deep rabbit hole! Thank you ladies!
i was 10 years old when i listen YES. So amazed.
Heart of the Sunrise from live at Montreux Jazz Festival 2003. Much better video and audio quality. The technology caught up to Yes by that time.
Ladies and gentlemen YES the greatest show on earth. Roundabout off the Fragile album is a great next listen. ✨️🎶✨️
This puts a lump in my throat now as much as when I first heard them 50 years ago! Its a timeless classic.
Welcome to the 70's....
And REAL MUSIC!!!!
Yes is the king of progressive rock. Probably the greatest band of rock musicians ever assembled. You've probably heard "Roundabout" and/or "Owner of a Lonely Heart". Their catalog is extremely deep and inspiring. Have fun diving into it. I would recommend "And You And I" or "Starship Trooper" as a good next step before jumping into their epics.
Yes some Yes. I love me some prog rock for sure.
The keyboard player the "wizard of the keyboards" Rick Wakeman was trained as a classical musician at the royal college of music London UK
Best performing band of the 1970s. These guys generated more great albums from 1970 to 1977 than any other band I like. In Winter of 1974, I saw them live, with a future editor of Rolling Stone, in Richmond, VA. They were awesome! Dig deeply into their catalog from the early 1970s and you will be amazed.
check them out live at the Apollo ..Heart of the Sunrise.. the singer is 72 and you wont believe his voice
My favorite band of the 70's and still a fan.
Nice reaction from you👍
Like so many out there, have been a fan and seen them many many times since 1971.
But like the guys, getting old now, we’ve lost Chris and Alan sadly.
It’s good to see the next generation appreciating what the guys were doing all those years ago.
There is only one YES
Adorable reaction, ladies !!! this concert was filmed in 1972. Yes is a FANTASTIC BAND!!!! Thank You for the reaction!!!
I'm sorry ,ladies. Here's a rundown of the band: Jon Anderson (angelic sounding lead vocals and tambourine); Steve Howe (Lead Guitar); Chris Squire ( Tall Bass guitarist with wings!); Rick Wakeman (Keyboard wizard with the cape), and Alan White on drums whom you heard but didn't see much of in this video. There is Soooo much of their music you should hear. Please continue to check them out! They have been my favorite band since 1975. And Jon Anderson will ALWAYS be my favorite singer! Have a wonderful weekend!!! YES!!!!!
Our pleasure!
Rick Wakeman on the keys is one of the best ever
VERY raw-sounding version with EXTREMELY high energy--a nice change from both studio AND more recent live versions........
Yeah, I was wondering what was going on the first thirty or so seconds - it wasn't quite instrument-tuning, but it certainly was chaotic beyond the 'usual' '5 soloists playing together'
Roundabout is probably one of their most popular songs.
The keyboard player is Rick Wakeman and he is a superb musician. He is quite a humorous guy. I have his first book which very funny, but also serious too as he had a heavy heart attack in his late 20s in the late 70s. He was a very big drinker and just gave it up with no problem.
He is playing up to May this year and retiring from live work due to his age.
Check out his R'n'R Hall of Fame acceptance speech (for the band). He had the audience rolling in the aisles. Best acceptance speech ever,
@@alancritchley5901 Yea, I did see it. I just love Rick because he is so down to earth. If I remember rightly when recording Tormato, he was throwing peanuts at the other band members. Not their finest moment. Some good songs, but well below par.
One of the great bands.
The best sound that I ever heard at a live show, and I've seen most the classics,Donna that's Rick Wakeman on the keyboards😊
The lead singer and writer of most of the music is the guy in the white sweatshirt playing the tambourine
the guitar player of the band yes steve howe his guitar hero was the country guitar virtuoso chet atkins that's why his style sounds country especially the picking on the guitar !
Yes In the Presence Of (symphonic) you will love it
Oh, if picking from Symphonic Live, then "Ritual".
Hi Kathy, Lulu, and Donna, I fell in love with Yes' music when I was on the verge of being a teenager in the 1980s. They had come back with a big hit then, "Owner of a Lonely Heart," which led me to exploring their music from the 1970s, and that music blew me away. I think what they accomplished from about 1971-1977 is some of the most powerful, enduring, transcendent music of all time--loved it back then as a teenager, and love it now in my 50s.
Yes were formed in the U.K., though they've also had band members from the U.S., Switzerland, South Africa, and Russia pass through their ranks (and, had the famous composer Vangelis joined them, which he almost did, Greece). At one point, the two members of The Buggles (known for "Video Killed the Radio Star," the 80s hit that was the first ever video played on MTV) joined Yes (and the resulting album, "Drama," is also pretty great). Not too many popular music bands can say all that about their history!
Guitarist Steve Howe is unique in that he plays mostly country & Western guitars like the Gibson ES-175 here and also plays a Fender slide guitar on other tracks. Still one of the fastest guitarists I've seen in concert way before it became the trend in rock music.
THE BEST BAND EVER LOL!!!!!! WELL I GO FROM FLOYD TO THEM QUITE OFTEN !!!!LULU IS A GIRL THAT IS FROM ANOTHER ERA LOL!!!
Yes better than Floyd by far
@@nancymjohnson SORRY BUT I LOVE THEM BOTH LOL!!!
Yes GIVES you wings Lulu! Every time I was lucky enough to see them, that’s what happened. Some of their more well known hits include Roundabout, I’ve Seen All Good People, …. Start with the Fragile album. Heart of the Sunrise and We Have Heaven leading into South Side of The Sky. Enjoy!
Yes... The group... Has the greatest keyboard player alive according to many. He and Keith Emerson (who you saw in concert playing 2 keyboards across from each other and that drum solo by Carl) were friends. Both at the top of polls as #1 at any given time.
RIP Keith Emerson & Greg Lake. They died 7 months apart. Keith in March 2016, Greg in December 2016
@@charleswillsonpeale5739 Tragic. When Keith died I went looking on CZcams for other great keyboard players for a short time. Found a couple of good ones but Keith was a leader and showman and many other things which put him above almost anybody else. I did say almost. There are other greats that deserve to be up there but these 2 I found may not be #1 but they are fascinating.

Great Glad you reacted to YES you will find that this fan base is huge and have been fans for five decades or better. Hope you give some other of their songs a go. I'll recommend " And You And I"
Yes in their prime. YESSONGS is my favorite live album of all time.
Motion sickness Kathy, just look at the horizon.😀 The man on the keys was Rick Wakeman. Great band, thanks.
Or smoke a fatty
Guitarist Steve Howe is still making music and touring with the latest incarnation of Yes. He's been doing it since this video was recorded 51 years ago!
Absolutely brilliant choice . Geddy Lee of Rush said Yes were the only band he would stand in line to see. I've seen them live countless times here in the UK and this track, especially Steve's solo, was always a highlight. This is the classic line up with Rick Wakeman on keyboards so you can't go wrong. They always sounded like they had about 10 musicians playing. Rick Wakeman still performs Starship Trooper from the same album.
You gals like classic rock? Try this band from 1983 Zebra, Song is called" Take your fingers from my hair". Its awesome. 🎶🎸
"Roundabout", "Close to the Edge", "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "And You and I", "Turn of the Century", "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change", "The Revealing Science of God", lots more.
Seen them 5 times! They went into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017. This is from the 1972 Close To The Edge tour. Keyboardist Rick Wakeman had classical training and played on “Space Oddity” by David Bowie and “Morning Has Broken” by Cat Stevens.
Favorite band after Zep. Love them so much. Ty for reaction!
So much talent in this band, Roundabout next it will Blow your Mind, or Close to the Edge.
Close to the Edge. Monumental work of art ❤
Can't wait to see you review Yes' "Close To The Edge" song. You will be blown away!
Suggestions? ANYTHING from *The YES Album,* or *Fragile,* or *Close to the Edge,* or *Tales from Topographic Oceans,* or *Relayer,* or *90125.* The song, *Close to the Edge* is a masterpiece, 18 minutes long, and quite a trip. It is a roller coaster ride from tranquility to chaos, order to oblivion, insanity to peace. It kept me sane 50+ years ago in high school and college.

Yep that pretty much sums up prog rock. You get a group of musicians who can play the poop out of their instruments.
Now that's a winning comment 😂😂
i saw yes live 4 times my favorite song is starship trooper my favorite version of it is from the yes album
Greatest band ever.
Southern sisters? Riscoe bosco here, instead of calling em Yes, just call em Yeup.🤠
Donna, they were in the same sort of era and attracted a similar audience to the band Emerson, Lake and Palmer you have reacted to a couple of times. Contemporaries and sometime rivals. Members of both of those bands occasionally worked with each other in other bands.
First saw them play this live in October 1971 ! 😱😱😱🤣🤣🤣
The lead singer had the highest voice & they didn't show him much but he was dancing around like an elf! 🎉
Going into the 1980's, Yes drifted apart with various members moving on to other projects but after some time, re-invented itself with some new faces including Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes (The Buggles). As a result, the music had quite a different sound from the earlier albums, much to the chagrin of some hard core, old school fans. Regardless, what they have contributed to the musicscape of the last 50+ years is nothing short of epic. I'm so glad that you have had your first taste of Yes, there is so much more to enjoy. I recommend a live version of "And You And I" from the "Union" tour.
Man oh man, you guys just stepped into a time machine and landed in the early seventies. The blurriness in the video, that's how three quarters of the audience was seeing the band. I was a sophomore in high school in 73 on Long Island. We take a train into Madison square garden on the Long Island railroad. the train would stop at each town and more concert goers we get on at each stop. It got to the point where the train conductor wouldn't even try to collect money. Whole train cars of long-haired crazy teenagers smoking pot, drinking beer, and other mind-altering drugs. When you got to Manhattan, the train stopped at Penn station and Madison square garden was built right on top of the station. You wouldn't even have to go out on the street to get into the garden, just up a few flights of stairs. For yes concerts, with their type of music, it was less beer add more psychedelics. There is no way to fully describe a train ride into the garden for a concert. This video was yes and the psychedelic early seventies at the height of their powers. Back in those days, music companies allowed the musicians plenty of freedom to be creative. Yes was one of the bands that was best at taking full advantage of expressing their creativity... And during that period they oozed creativity, legendary music just flowed out of them. I must admit, I did chuckle when I saw you had never heard of yes and picked a live version from 1973. Now that's diving into the early seventies head first.
Yes are (were?) an English band and were mega-huge in the early 70's to the early 80's.
Rick Wakeman is a fantastic keyboardist. FYI, he plays the piano on Cat Stevens' "Morning has Broken". Hope you do some more YES
hold on tight...all of their stuff is this good...check out their symphonic live 2001 concert, 30 years after the performance you just watched and even better
Great band and reaction. If you really enjoyed the song, I would suggest listening to the studio recording off of the Yes Album. The live version is awesome and it's great watching these guys play, but you can hear the individual instruments better on the studio version. Just my opinion.
They changed their style to a more pop-rock sound in the 80s and had a huge hit with “Owner of a Lonely Heart”. Donna would likely recognize that.
I was 14 in 1988 when I started high school and despite loving modern rock at the time it’s also when I got into 70s classic rock and progressive rock like Yes as well.
They really are one of those bands that every member is exceptional at their craft!
Oh! The guy with the’wings’ is not the lead singer. That’s bass player/backup vocalist Chris Squire.
The guy with the tambourine is the lead singer: Jon Anderson.
🙂
My favorite band! Thanks for the review!
Our pleasure!
GREATEST BAND EVER !!!!!! Listen to their STARSHIP TROOPER, HEART of the SUNRISE or their famous Hit song ROUNDABOUT next! Many of their greatest songs are very long and much more complex. YES weren't a radio band because they were very experimental, mixing together Rock, Classical, Folk, Jazz, Atmospheric styles with atypical poetic esoteric lyrics. Looking forward to your next YES Reaction!!!!
I bet you ladies would love to hear Heart of the Sunrise from the Fragile album. Jon's vocals are some of the best ever.
One of fondamental UK progressive rock band , long complex tracks over 10 or 20 minutes..
Let's see.. Wondrous Stories, Awaken, Close To The Edge, Roundabout, South Side Of The Sky, Turn of the Century...
Live versions for first time listens are not optimal, ladies. The studio version of most songs are whewre you get the intent of what the band laid down on record. Then after you've heard the actual song--it can be interesting to hear how they interpreted things live. Just a suggestion for future reference. Especially in a case like Yes,who alter the actual song greatly when playing live. Cheers, T
Your reaction is no disgrace when you listen to Hocus Pocus by Focus! 🙂
The way dude holds his guitar..Chest high, a technique I've seen used by many Classical /Spanish style players..And many of Howe's licks have that texture. Donna, Keyboardist is using that 2-tier Hammond..Love thier versatility/sound, ( So did Pink Floyd and Zepplin) but I never owned 1 'cause it takes 4 guys to move 'em! Catch more of Yes...they were the picture of what happens when rock meets art.
Newer Yes music, from the 80's, "Going For The One", "Don't Kill The Whales"! You might have heard these?
"Roundabout" is the YES song that most people have heard.
Ditto! Greatest band ever!
My Fav band YES saw them around 73 times starting in early 1970's
With early YES, it is probably better to listen to the studio, the live stuff is basically proof that they can actually play this in concert.
Steve Howe, very underrated Guitarist Rick Wakeman on Keys Always one of the best thank you for this .
If your gonna wear a cape, better be able to back it up. Wakeman does just that. Great rabbit hole to go down. Enjoy ✌️❤️🎵🎶
British Band, surely not you say. 🤣🤣
Steve Howe a classicly trained guitar master!
He’s actually self taught
@andrewk5710 and so is Anderson and Squire. Squire was a trained choir boy
You ladies never have heard it.I want it played at my funeral
The keyboard player is Rick Wakeman a solo artist in his own right.
Great English progressive rock band 60s later 70s..
You have probably heard "Owner of A Lonely Heart" that had a lot of radio play.
I think Lulu needs to find a time machine and travel back to the 70's...she's really into all the clothes and hairstyles! Steve Howe = a MONSTER guitarist!!
Roundabout,",,," Long distance Round about" ,, "South of the Sky" easy ... until you get the groove of the best band since THE BEATLES".. Luv YALL ! from West Virginia ....
probably over five minutes of the guitar solo is improvised
Yes-Search And You and I Yessongs
I just turned 66 yesterday, Yes is one fanatic band I seen them live 3 times in the 70's and the ticket was 12 Bucks
Welcome to the world of YES, 70's Progressive Rock personified. Definitely not for everybody, but if you're into it, these guy are pretty deep. There have been many different line-up configurations throughout the years, but this here is the probably the most popular. I was heavily into YES back in the day, and I went to eleven concerts over the years... These Guys are Pros, that's for sure!!!
Their most popular radio song was 'Owner Of A Lonely Heart' back in the 80's, and their most popular rock song would be 'Roundabout'!!!
Thanks for the information.
Yes was formed in the UK in the late 60's and rose to prominence as 1 of the innovators of progressive rock in the 70's ... Yes were a jam band that could create epic pieces of music that were challenging to play live; they have been a sort of musician's club, rotating members since their inception and debut album in 1969... They have no original members today.
This live clip showcased Yes' classic 70's line-up - Jon Anderson (vocals), Steve Howe (guitar), Rick Wakeman (keyboards), Chris Squire (bass) and Alan White (drums)...
However, Yes became famous for the hit single - 'Owner of a lonely heart'... in the 80's w/ Trevor Rabin (guitar) and Tony Kaye (keyboards) in the line-up, their 1983 album '90125' being their biggest commercial album.
Recap of Yes and their career:
Originally formed by Jon Anderson (vocals), Chris Squire (bass), Tony Kaye (keyboards), Bill Bruford (drums) and Peter Banks (guitar)... Yes released 4 albums by 1971 as Steve Howe (guitar) and Rick Wakeman (keyboards) replaced Banks and Kaye... their 1971 (4th)album 'Fragile' becoming a 2x platinum success in the US w/ a prominent single - 'Roundabout'... 5th album 'Close to the edge' in 1972 also sold platinum.
Drummer Bill Bruford left Yes to join another prog rock band King Crimson... he was replaced by Alan White (drums) who had been John Lennon's drummer and would record most of Yes' catalog of music from 1973 forward.
Yes became acclaimed for their complex, epic arrangements and live musicianship after the release of their 1973 live album 'Yessongs'... considered one of the best live records in music history... also marking the recording debut of drummer Alan White.
Yes continued to record successful albums in the 70's like - 'Going for the one' (1977) and 'Tormato' (1978)... but internal disputes led to Yes disbanding in the early 80's after both Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman had left the band...
Asia was the band formed in the aftermath in the 80's.
In 1983, Jon Anderson (vocals) began working on a new project w/ Trevor Rabin (guitar) but soon recruited Tony Kaye (keyboards), an original Yes member... Chris Squire (bass) and Alan White (drums) signed on and they called themselves Yes... the new line-up released '90125' (their 11th album) in 1983 and it became a 3x platinum hit w/ the single 'Owner of a lonely heart'... Yes found renewed success in the 80's as they released the next album 'Big generator' in 1987 w/ the single 'Love will find a way'... But more disagreements led to more exits by the 90's after 2 more albums - 'Union' in 1991 and 'Talk' in 1994.
In 1996, the classic Yes line-up (Anderson/ Howe/ Wakeman/ Squire/ White) reunited for the 'Keys to Ascension' album & tour... followed by 'Keys to Ascension 2' in 1997... but the same internal disagreements led to both Rick Wakeman and Jon Anderson leaving the band by 2004.
Yes continued to tour and record new music in the 2000's... eventually they reformed in 2011 after a hiatus w/ Steve Howe (guitar), Chris Squire (bass) and Alan White (drums) and recording 'Fly from here'... w/ Geoff Downes (keyboards) joining... Jon Davison (vocals) eventually joined Yes by 2014 for the album 'Heaven and Earth'.
In 2015, bassist Chris Squire passed away... Billy Sherwood (bass) replaced him.
Drummer Alan White had to be replaced on tour by Jay Schellen (drums) around 2016... Alan White passed away in 2022.
Yes released their latest album 'Mirror to the sky' in 2023... Former vocalist Jon Anderson often tours solo playing Yes songs in concert.
Lead singer is Jon Anderson the voice of YES In the white shirt or smock. Chris Squire is the Bass player with the cape back up singer he and Steve Howe the Guitar player. Keyboards by Rick Wakeman Drums by Alan White
