Yes has many 9 minute musical adventures that sound like 4 or 5 songs in one. The lyrics will be a little ethereal and hard to follow, but they always sound good. This is Progressive Rock. It sounds like a rock symphony in several movements, with lots of tempo and time signature changes, and incredibly smooth transitions. You'll love all of these songs: And You And I, I've Seen All Good People, Heart of the Sunrise, Long Distance Runaround, Yours Is No Disgrace, Siberian Khatru, and Perpetual Change. All of these are amazingly well crafted and produced by 5 virtuoso musicians, and will send you to another place just like Starship Trooper did.

Such an example of "Art Rock"..A vibe of classical and hard rock mix. I loved Ye's drummer, dude was always playing with just as much beat as melody, and always great "cues" to any time changes. Seems like most of thier songs always take you on an adventure, so you're right--they dont feel as long as they are.

I've been listening to Yes since 1972 and it is only recently I've taken the trouble to read Jon Anderson's quite sophisticated imagist poems. I've been so caught up in the music that I've always considered Jon to be the main lead instrument in Yes and the quality and purity of his singing has been enough in itself. Find the lyrics and you'll find some of the most inspirational songs about love and peace, which is where Jon has always been, despite the Buggles buggering up his band. What is Starship Trooper about? Maybe humanity's incessant search for a truth that can be gleaned from nature but because we are such a left brained species we think we need words to describe it and therefore can never really appreciate the wordless wisdom of nature. You have now begun a wondrous story that will bring you close to the edge of the gates of delirium where you will enjoy perpetual change until you become the owner of a lonely heart because you couldn't stay away from the drama that didn't belong in Yes.

Don't worry about the lyrics. Jon rarely has a story associated. He mostly uses words that sound good. ALL their songs are spiritual or uplifting in nature. Keep diving in to their portfolio.

Initially I thought of requesting Roundabout, but it seems like almost all the music reactors start their Yes journeys with that song, and since Starship Trooper is my personal favorite I went with that. Ironically Angela in fact reacted to Roundabout three months ago, apparently because it was requested before I asked her to listen to Starship Trooper, but I didn't know it was coming because the Roundabout reaction was posted after I made my request. I have always been reluctant to suggest any progressive or hard rock tracks, but I'm rethinking that now. A new world has just opened. Thanks for doing this track. The drummer, Bill Buford, has jazz in his background and it shows here. This was Steve Howe's first LP with Yes; he was the guitarist. It was the keyboardist's (Tony Kaye) last LP before Rick Wakeman took over (he was the keyboardist on "Roundabout," which you reacted to previously). Finally, feeling a bit emboldened, I'd like to suggest "Space Truckin'" by Deep Purple. And "I've Seen All Good People," also by Yes, would be a nice follow-up to this track.

Many times Jon Anderson’s lyrics are there more for the sound and not the meaning. People that listen to early “Yes” music like this while high on Pot said they had a complete understanding. I first listened to “Yes” when I was 12 in 73, but my friends older brother said we were too young to get help with the lyrics. “Hint Hint Nudge Nudge, If you know what I mean” Monty Python

Great reaction. I was just noticing it's been two years since you reacted to Lara Fabian's Je Suis Malade. Don't know if you realize it or not but that reaction has over forty two thousand views. Time for some more Lara. May I suggest Adagio or Curuso or Love byGrace all from her famous concert "Fron Lara With Love" live from the Molson Center in Montreal. By the way Lara's live versions are always better than the studio versions.

I am so glad to see younger people expressing their feelings about their first impressions with progressive (Prog) rock. We would spend time listening to the entire album. The only drawback was flipping the album for side two.

Angela, I’m writing here as it’s a new video and I hope you see this. I’ve written before but things changed. I’m requesting you react to a cover of “We’ve Only Just Begun.” I think the lead vocalist will qualify for inclusion in the “Her Voice!” category. I am not joking. I have proof. This cover, really a recreation in the spirit of love. Was released on 3/2/24 to honor Karen on her birthday in heaven. Jim Wilkas with a group of musicians created this masterpiece. The video is dynamic and unlike anything I’ve seen before. I’ve seen similar but this is next level as I hope you’ll see. Now let’s talk lead vocalist, “Her Voice” The singer is Tori Holub. She’s a 20 year old lover of music from my youth, the 60-80’s. She’s a super-fan of Carpenters, both of them. She sings and is an audio engineer. Though on this video Jim is the wizard of magic. She self produces her own videos for her channels. This is a collaboration. IMHO it is the best cover of a Carpenters song ever. I’m looking right at Leonid.
Now I said earlier I have proof. Well, I hope you are familiar with the Wings of Pegasus channel. Last Sunday Fil analyzed this very song and Tori. I’m not spoiling his video or this one but the title card on this episode should clue you in without spoiling it all. I want you to react to this cold. Are you ready to add to the Her Voice section. I hope you are. I’m going to make you cry, here. Or at least well up. ❤ Here’s the link…

Talk about two songs on the opposite side of the equation. Both are great and enjoyable in their own unique way. They are separated by six years and many genres, yet I believe that members of Yes enjoyed The Seekers and vise versa. How could they not. Great music is great music, wherever it originates.

The"live" version off of the "YESSONGS" album is the better version of "Starship Trooper." It has great guitar and synthesizer solos in the "Wurm" section.

Good luck with the lyrics. Others propbably have said that Yes's lyrics are vague at best. I l isten for the top-tier musicianship. If you want to know what the song was about Google it, and find our what Jon Anderson was trying to convey, then you still probably won't get it.Just enjoy the music and show.

Dial down their song list for more harmony! Harmony? The most important part of music?

Just my personal opinion, but I think with Yes songs it's best to start with studio versions, just because the audio is typically cleaner and crisper which makes it easier to hear and appreciate all the layers in the music. The live versions are great to follow up with, to appreciate the full virtuosity of the band members. They are truly masters of their instruments.
