Ryan was a genius. He was given warnings... ignored the warnings... and ended up winning. The idea to swap commissaries without allowing debt or "I'll pay you back later" was brilliant.
I think what the Sheriff really hated in Ryan was that Ryan did his own thing, and ended up being right about it.

they view them as something other than people, almost like another species or something. Sometimes I think that is the same way cops see regular people too. I don't know if i blame them for it, because being put in that position where you have so much power over people and they resent you for it is going to create an 'us vs them" mentality. And I think Correction Officers are some of the worst people I have ever seen, at least the ones in this show. The level of callousness and incompetence just blows my mind. Most of them are overweight or behave worse than the inmates themselves.

He's doing really well in life tbh. He's now high up in real estate and from what I can gather, he hasn't been in trouble with the law since.
He's still just as good looking (if not a little better), but he's genuinely a good guy and I feel kinda proud for him.
The guard commenting about Garza saying "he will ask for another", nah, he wouldn't. He's genuine and not the kind to take advantage of anyone. Don't get me wrong, he won't suffer fools gladly, you cross him and yeah he's gonna stick up for himself, but I bet you'd never find a more loyal friend. It's almost like the officer who comments at the end of every heroic thing Ryan does doesn't understand strategy behind undercover operations. If you want him to get anything meaningful out of the inmates he's trying to infiltrate, he HAS to get their trust first. "Oh well you do them one favor pretty soon they're gonna ask for another" I mean, there's "will you loan me $5 to buy some commissary" as a sort of like predatory favor someone might ask, and then there is resetting someone's broken hand so he doesn't have to go to a guard then medical and basically have to lie about how his hand got broken, as him saying "I got in a fight" would probably instantly trigger an investigation and lockdown of some sort. What Ryan did instantly earned him the respect of every single person in the pod, if he didn't have it already. AKA he was doing it right.
