    I am very impressed with his broad knowledge and approach that he picked to over come the devastated Ethiopian economy, it is modest and yet deep rooted. It is sad to see this leader to be treated the way most people think him as a dictator, when the fact is that the real dectators are those who are working under him, who have amassed ill gotten money at the cost of his party name. I will be lying if i were to say that he is clean of all mischiefs but over all in my view he is fair leader.

    First of all, thank you Mr. Prime Minister for giving us an hour of your time and sharing your wisdom with us. Regrettably, many watching this video will do so not with an open mind but with the now all-too-familiar distorted prism of personal hatred and self-serving ideology. So, as much as I appreciate your sincere efforts to enlighten Western intellectuals and reach out to the diaspora, I believe your one hour would have been better spent in the service of the Ethiopian people.

    While many of African leaders are still looking on the International Community for salvage and aggressive panhandling, Meles never stand begging for what he knows he has power to earn. He proved that the highest grace can be attained by a person of ordinary origin. Respect is given to leaders only when they are deemed worthy of receving the honor. Meles earned that admiration and respect and we Africans are proud of him.

    First institutionalized linguistic freedom at local level (1994-)
    First ethnic based federalism (since 1994)

    Very nice interview. I know he might not be the beloved President, but he is a clever man. Ethiopia has a very good chance to grow and the future looks good for this country. Thoe it's not easy to unite so many diffrent tribes and neighbours which have war or other views of leading a country and diffrent regional strategies. I also think it's hard to lead a population of 90 million. Therefore a country like this needs a strong man who cracks down if needed.

    I think more of this kind of engagement with people who have been exposed to one side of the coin is a good way to start a dialogue between the opposing sides that are at logger heads at each other. It is all about being open to reason to safely propagate ones own agenda which other wise would fail with the test of time. After all it is all about going head on obstacles and not going around them to win time. Rushing to victory hasn't worked in the recent history of Ethiopia and won't...

    In terms of economic vision and leadership, he was simply ONCE IN A CENTURY leader whose void will be very hard to fill! However, he was a disaster regarding Ethiopian national politics! From robbing one of the largest nations in the continent of its port access(he could have used several political, economic and diplomatic levers to secure a port access during the Independence of Eritrea), to fragmenting our historic nation into ethnic lines, our country is presently suffering one of the worst internal displacements in human history. Not to mention the gross human rights violation unleashed within ethnic groups is undeniably the devastating result of his ethnic politics!

    • @asinegaasinega
      @asinegaasinega Před 3 lety +1

      Let me give you an insight- he didn't have an economic vision. The IMF enabled what we see now in Ethiopia. At the time he died, 68% of the country's GDP was financed by loans the country got from the IMF (that was the main reason why Abiy when he took over begged for the diaspora to send hard currency remitance). People see stupid buildings funded by IMF money and think growth. What a farce!

    • @MG-il2fm
      @MG-il2fm Před 3 lety

      @@asinegaasinega I find your comment rather poor and condescending. When you start your sentence by giving us "insight", you lead me into the assumption that you had confidential access into the working of the Meles economic agenda! Maybe you were an insider having access to classified documents providing you with "insights", not otherwise available to the rest of us? LOL, don't think so. While I won't pretend to give insight to anyone in here, I would point out that economic growth is measured not by "buildings" but by developing infrastructure that includes connecting rural to urban locations as well as to ports, industrial parks attracting manufacturing, dams(GERD)... Now, was Tigreyans awarded most lucrative contracts thus building and amassing generational wealth? Sure. But what corner of the planet you know where people don't favor their own? Here in the US, it's called cronyism, nepotism... However, not only the stealing was kept in check by him, all relatively mega projects were completed around estimated time and put in operation to benefit citizens. Most looting and massive embezzlement began after his death! TPLF Juntas, incompetent in managing the complex and treacherous political landscape and knowing their days were limited, turned into የቀን ጅቦች። Allow me to also correct you that Total Debt to GDP ratio was around 50% upon his death. Only when PM Abiy came to power in 2018 reached over 60% due to the terrible mismanagement of the economy the previous five plus years dating back to his death. Anyone who understands economics knows that growth is impossible without debt! Especially, to an economically deprived country like ours, debt is the lifeblood for growth. The problem lies when you're not utilizing this lifeblood to fuel growth and investment!

    Meles have no choice but relese birtukan again. He is under a tremendous pressure from foreign countries to relese birtukan. That is why he said birtukan if she ask again pardon it does not surprise me. But birtukan did not ask pardon before according to the ethiopian law. Meles was trying at that to show that it looks according to the law. So he failed in his own trap. Now he is trying to reless birtukan and once again he hopes the pressure he is on will reduce.

    Mr. Prime Minister, according to your answers, you seem to mention the U.S. quite a lot and seem to support America’s actions to show you are America’s puppet. Why don’t you do the same and have a term limit like the U.S.?

    The contradiction about the "double digit economic growth of Ethiopia": Ethiopia launched appeal for 2.8 million people immediate food aid-Reuters Feb 2011. The percentage of starving people surpasses that of the predecessor regimes of Meles Zenawi. Recurring famine has been hitting Ethiopia more frequently within the last two decades and with more people affected than ever before. It is underestimating the intellect of humanity and most importantly an ignorant disregard for the suffering lives.

    This was a disappointing speech and Q&A. The Prime Minister's answers evaded the real questions. It left me very under whelmed. It is unfortunate that practically all persons from Tigray would probabaly support the PM and other Ethiopians in general oppose him. However, if someone hears this presentation in a neutral manner, it would be clear that the Prime Minister somewhat underpeformed and his answers were wanting on many occasions.

    Meles failed misserably. He was trying to show the jaming of voa to the voa not being transmited in usa. Well usa does not jam voa or any other radios. Everyone can see that his logic is so backward.
    Meles is not ethiopian that is the core of the probleme of his leadership failer. His ideas and rule are contrary to ethiopian belief and history. That is why his policy is a failure. Well even in development of africa or ethiopia he is promoting for china and india to come to ethiopia and exploit.

    Donkoro weyanes, used to see Albania as their to form Marxist Leninist Tigray, most of them can not even read and write. These former rebels fighters, most of them were farmers and herders, for them to be in power in Tigray region let alone the whole of Ethiopia is like winning lottery. Many of them stinky, dirty and filthy, every village, town and cities they take, they used to clean wash and clean clothes from fleas public. Since then rebel leader that took power in 2005 rigged election killed hundreds of protesters in the street of the capital, and called them terrorists, over 45,000 were in prison, since then before every election, he puts the country in state of emergency with shoot to kill policy, he and his party stayed in until now, 4 years of intense proteste after over 1,500 lives, this one party system removed after 27 years in power.
