- These commercials aired on TBS on October 22nd, 1989
1. Promo for "The Flintstones"/Stone Age Stumper
2. Pontiac Bonneville
3. Wendy's Super Value Menu (With Dave Thomas)
4. Isotoner Pantyhose
5. TBS Promo (With Buddy Ebsen, Jimmie Walker, Bob Denver, Alan Hale Jr. and Al Lewis! Unfortunately Alan Hale Jr. would pass away only a few months after this in January of 1990 so this could very well be the last time he appeared as the Skipper from "Gilligan's Island" in any capacity)
6. Dial (I know this slogan primarily from Tom Servo in MST3K quoting it a lot)
7. Tampax Baby Powder Deodorant Tampons
8. Oral-B Toothbrush
9. Playskool Sesame Street Poppin' Pals
10. Promo for "The Brady Bunch" and "The Munsters" (Unfortunately "The Brady Bunch Meets The Munsters" is not a real thing, but hopefully we can one day have AI technology make it for us)
11. TBS Movie Presentation Commercial Bumper
12. Spokane
13. Promo for "Fraggle Rock" and "Bugs Bunny & Pals"
14. Quality Comfort Inn (With Smokin' Joe Frazier)
15. Promo for "The Flintstones"/Stone Age Stumper
16. Chevrolet
17. Burger King BK Doubles
18. Real Cheese (With Willard Scott)
19. Eureka Boss Vacuum
20. Sun Light Dish Detergent
21. Promo for "The Brady Bunch", "The Munsters", "Good Times", "The Beverly Hillbillies", "The Andy Griffith Show", "The Jeffersons" and "Sanford & Son"
22. Isotoner Pantyhose (Sorry for dupe)
23. TBS News Watch
a. Loma Prieta earthquake (The earthquake hit the SF Bay Area on 10/17/89...the previous Tuesday before these aired. I'm from there and the earthquake was probably the most memorable and impactful event that happened to me as a kid and was all over the local news here, so it's kind of funny to see it presented from an outside perspective as just some earthquake that happened in California. Also neat to see Leon Panetta when he was just a congressman. He would go on to join the Clinton administration in 1993 as OMB director and then White House Chief of Staff and later served as the CIA director and Secretary of Defense in the Obama administration)
b. STS-34 Space Shuttle Mission (The mission ended the following day when it returned to Earth: en.wikipedia.o...)
24. Maytag (With the voice of Fred Gwynne aka Herman Munster)
25. Advil
26. TBS News Watch Commercial Bumper
27. Colgate Tartar Control Formula Toothpaste (With Pat Morita. I guess this commercial was a prequel to "Angels In The Outfield"?)
28. Vidal Sassoon
29. Theragran-M
30. Scope
31. Anacin (With Patricia Heaton)
32. Reebok
33. TBS Movie Presentation Commercial Bumper
34. Promo for "Tom and Jerry's TBS Funhouse"
35. Wendy's Super Value Menu (With Dave Thomas)
36. Kentucky Fried Chicken (With Ray Charles singing about chicken)
37. Maximum Strength Pepto Bismol
38. Tide with Bleach
39. Murphy's Oil Soap
40. Coming Up Next...
41. Final Net Ultimate Hold
42. Renuzit Freshell Air Freshener
43. 1990 Goodwill Games (What would Brian Boitano do? The Goodwill Games was basically Ted Turner's version of the Olympics, created in 1986 after the American and Soviet Boycott of the Olympics in 1980 and 1984. They occurred five times before ending in 2001 due to low ratings)
44. Tasters Choice Coffee (You didn't answer his question: WHO ARE YOU?!?)
My high school teacher was friends with Dave Thomas and would take his class to their commercial shoots in Florida every year until Dave passed. He always seemed like such a nice, genuine person.
4:44 - I loved driving people crazy chanting this over and over when I was young.
3 months after this TBS Promo Aired. Alan Hale Jr passed away from thymus cancer at St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles at age 68. His body was cremated, and his ashes were sprinkled into the Pacific Ocean. His Gilligan's Island co-star Dawn Wells was in attendance, representing the surviving members of the cast.
Playskool Sesame Street Poppin’ Pals- Hearing the child say “Hi” and “Goodbye” to the Sesame Street characters that are within this toy in this commercial puts a smile on my face every time.
Stone Age Stumper- The questions relating to The Flinstones they ask in these segments are hardly Stumpers if you’ve seen at least one episode of The Flinstones, I think.
That final net commercial…The way those women laugh is somewhat unnerving…
Another instant classic in the books 👍🏽😎👍🏽
That TBYes! commercial was that station's best promo ever.
5:12 RIP Smokin' Joe
TBYES! This was a short lived promo on TBS but it was cool to see all the celebrity appearances even in many of other ads!
I remember when TBS had cartoons on in the afternoons after school but I'd only watch them if nothing else good was on the local stations at the time!
And yes, WHO IS THE TASTER'S CHOICE GUY!
I love that Isotoner Pantyhose commercial, & I don't mind the dupe. Other than that, this is a great volume with commercials that were on TBS.
1:28 - I think we’re witnessing this woman’s last day on the job, especially when she starts kicking the papers around.
LovecDave Thomas-yellow cup-"sunroom" era Wendy's 😊
