1:15 - Pizza Hut was so special back then. In April 88 when these aired, I was wrapping up fourth grade, and going there was an event. Whether it was dinner to celebrate the weekend (with a stop at the video store to rent a game or movie) or stopping for lunch on a day off from school for a personal pan pizza, today’s kids will never know how awesome it was to go here back then.
Did you know they have "Pizza Hut Classic" locations around the country? There's a few around my area, like an hour away. They are remarkably close to the ones from the 80s and 90s
Seeing that Pizza Hut commercial reminds me of how magical it was to enjoy pizza inside the restaurant, especially with my family on a Friday night. I miss those days.
I loved going to Pizza Hut with my whole family, we usually went on Friday nights. They even had a couple arcade games. great memories.

7. Coca Cola Classic- Very clever idea the kids had to disguise their party as a birthday party for the parents to avoid getting into trouble for having a party in the end.
19. Cheese- Seeing the melted Mozzarella cheese bubble on the tomato gets me hungry every time.
I remember my two older brothers loved Max Headroom back then. I never got it.

Man, that Pizza Hut commercial hurts.
Seeing that OG building with the actual red hut on top the way they all were makes me remember so many trips there.
Regular nights just going for dinner as a family, birthday parties for friends, pizza party celebrations after baseball games, claiming my free personal pan pizzas for reading books for the elementary school "Book It" program; so many memories tied to it.
There were two Pizza Huts near where I grew up as a kid. One building is completely gone, the other is now a Mexican restaurant with the roof painted blue.
Ironically, they built a new development across the street from that now Mexican restaurant old Pizza Hut with a Panda Express and one of those pop up Pizza Huts where you can only pick up the pizza.
That new Pizza Hut has since closed and the Mexican restaurant in the old Pizza Hut building is still operating.
My nieces and nephew have no concept of what life was like for their parents/ my siblings and me. Everything is tied to the internet/ cell phones now, your order everything and it's delivered to you.
People don't go out to restaurants, malls, department stores, toy stores, etc.; they're dying off. All the shared social experiences we used to have in common are becoming extinct.
In 1990 they relabeled New Coke as Coke II before discontinuing it all together in 2002.
But I can’t recall a moment in my life when I saw Coke II….and I lived through the entirety of the 90’s.
I always think of "You can't do that on television" when I see Commander USA, it's like he's a character from there just in a different multiverse network lol
I absolutely loved Commander USA's Groovy Movies.
Can confirm, "Mako: The Jaws of Death" is a bizarre movie. It's about a shark lover who has shark friends, but everyone wants to exploit his shark friends, so he goes on a murder spree. It was written by Robert Morgan, the bigfoot enthusiast featured in the 70s documentary "In Search of Bigfoot".
It's remarkable how diverse commercials were back then compared to the incredibly repetitive ads we see on today's TV programming. You'd be lucky to see the same ad twice in a week in those days, as opposed to seeing the same one a dozen times during a single hour-long program. Really illustrates the de-evolution of advertising in this media. Thanks for preserving this history.
I noticed the pizza hut sign outside @ 1:35 looks different then the ones I'm use to seeing at those older buildings!

The local ads are from my neck of the woods! Oakland, Wayne, Maywood, and Fairfield, NJ are very close to where I grew up and still live.
I wish I saw these ads at the age of 14!
From the local ads on here I can tell this was from UA-Columbia Cable in New Jersey that became TCI in the early 90s. I did not live in the UACC/TCI area but the towns mentioned here had them.
Plus ENERGIZAH-OIII and Max Headroom! Perfect 80s volume!
1:45 - Even in the 80s, the idea of a teen calling all the kids over to celebrate their parents anniversary and drinking only Coke seems like a fantasy land.
Wow a Coke Classic and a new coke ad in the same block says a lot, it's as if Coke has already given up on New Coke! That Coke Classic commercial is Coke dissing both New Coke and Pepsi at the same time! I'm shocked people were still drinking from skinny glass bottles, I thought the 20oz plastic or the larger glass bottles would be more common in 1988!
Coca Cola Classic was introduced only a few months after the debut of New Coke in 1985 after severe public backlash demanding the original formula also be made available.
