BBX Upgrades: Brushless Power and Spare Tire.

  • The Tamiya BBX is easily one of the coolest kits to come from the Tamiya Corporation in quite some time. In this video, I'll take my mild starting setup (21T brushed) and drop in a major dose of power and modern equipment. A 13.5T brushless sensored motor along with a 120 amp brushless esc.
    The optional spare tire was also added to give the BBX an aggressive look. What do you think? Keep the spare tire? Or get rid of it?

    I like the look, works good for that buggy. Too bad you're on the other side of Canada, could clean up those solder jobs for you 😉lol
    What type of iron you using? adjustable heat range?

      @poorboysrc  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yeah it was at max heat. Normally I'd get the torch out and braze it, bit I was on day #3 of filming that video and got tired of it all and went for a shortcut. Lol!

      keep your eye open at princess auto for one. I got the $100 model with digital display that goes up to 450+*F, normally keep it down to 350F unless I'm doing a motor. They go on sale for 40-50% off at times, picked mine up for $60 and bought spare tips for it to, assortment of styles. makes those soldering jobs much easier to do. 😎 @@poorboysrc

      @@xthumprx That's a good tip, thanks pal. I've been happy with my soldering station, but I definitely could have used a little more heat for this last job.

    brushless defiantly the way to go. Spare tyre No.(but that's only my opinion)

      The spare tire is growing in me, and x2 for brushless being the way to go. It was a little slower than expected, but nothing a 3S pack can't fix. 😁

      Just the stock one, but I think I need to go up a few teeth, it's pretty sluggish.

    What would be a mild brushless kv value to put in my 90s frog that won't chew the gears to bits? Thanks!

    • @poorboysrc
      @poorboysrc  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Problem with the Frog (and all ORV chassis cars) is that with bigger power motors, the metal gearbox panels flex under load, and the diff starts to make really bad noises. So if you're planning on going brushless (even a mild, 3000 kv), you're going to need to upgrade the gearbox. You can add the MIP ball diff (which is what I did). Or I see on eBay now, there's a company making carbon Fibre ORV gearbox plates. I've never used them, but they look awesome. And from what I hear, they're much thicker than the stock plates, which eliminates the flexing under load, and will save your gearbox. So, a couple options on a must do mod before adding more power. Hope that helps! 🙏

      @@christianrambissoon1141 awesome, glad it helped. You can always drop in a mildly hotter motor? The Tamiya GT Tuned is what I'm running in mine (on a 2S lipo). It's 25T, so a little more power than stock, and no damage to the gearbox. 👊🏼

    You did an amazing job with this BBX Fil. One of the nicest ones I have seen so far. I absolutely loves me the color choice. TBH I really don't care for the tire on the back with this kit. It looks a little too big. That is just my preference.
