You could have just called me to learn the formula… jk I wouldn’t have told you.
Mark do you know joe created the devil's toothpaste?

lol
I can buy a gallon of 50% H2O2 for 10 euros in a hardware store... Thats Portugal for you Ladies and Gentlemen
a wild integza!
In germany, you need pretty much a licence qnd permission for anything that isn't prescribed medicine and is able to react because germany
I'd very much like to see Integra and BYS do a collaboration.. like a devil's toothpaste powered rocket used to eviscerate some tomatoes.
Yep can confirm, 12 euros for 5 liters of 50% H2O2 in Greece
Go Integza :-D didn't finish this vid because I already saw "Devil's Toothpaste Rocket Engine (3D Printed)" last year. Ps. still love TheBackyardScientist experiments.
I remember back when I used to watch this channel as a kid. Things weren't exactly "formal learning' but they weren't this funny before. I must say this is a prime example of a channel improving more, alongside its audience getting older.
Well said👏 and a comment above you just commented "remmember when you had a channel haha" like bruh i hate people wanting other people being stagnant most youtubers should change once inawhile so they wont be stale.
He really has gotten better and better over the years
Devil's Toothpaste is really the same as the famous Elephant Toothpaste experiment, just executed with higher concentration hydrogen peroxide. In this case, [Integza] is using 50% hydrogen peroxide combined with potassium permanganate as a catalyst.
Yeah actually says it I one of his videos lol later on he says it's a Secret he probably change it
*meet the demoman*
Don't use kmn04 just use a solution of 50% concentration of potassium iodide
Thanks for the recipe! It’s delicious!
I'm a peroxide specialist, what you need is anaccelerant for the catalyst. You can try using some molybdate salt such as sodium molybdate and see if it makes a difference. Also you can try adding some low amounts of manganese dioxide suspended in solution. It's worth getting 50% peroxide since it's not as dangerous as what you created (which I think was grater than 60%). Peroxide reactivity somewhat increases exponentially as it gets concentrated. Also, make sure you are not using any metal firings, valvs, or parts at or near the peroxide tank. Your tank bursted because the peroxide you had concentreated was contaminated by dust and bugs, which then leads to it continuously releasing some oxygen, which then creates pressure build up in the tank, where the pressure then causes formation of heat and rise in temperature, which in turn makes the peroxide degradation faster and faster as this cycle continues = this reaction cycle was the cause for your explosion!
I'd be happy to work together with you and recreate the devil's toothpaste, peroxide science and formulating with peroxide is my daily profession!
I support this.
Username checks out
In terms of safety, maybe some sort of thermometer or pressure gauge in the peroxide tank would be a good idea? That way you can catch the accelerating decomposition early and get clear.
This guy couldn't get an infected wound if he tried
I like your funny words magic man
"so yeah it's dangerous or whatever, but the real problem is that it's hard to get" that quote manages to sum up your entire vibe
For what it's worth, the local lab shop sells up to 35% for about $30 for 1 liter. (US, ships no problem, but that does add a ~$40 hazmat shipping fee to the whole order.)
Most successful scientist have a similar mindset.
I love beaker bombs! ! ! 😍😍😍😍😍(for legal reasons this is satire)
remember: safety third
This quote is basically me everytime I wanna do some chemistry outside of the lab
4:36 "Mark Rober, or should I say Mars Rover?" 🤣🤣🤣
Hehe
I've worked with 90% peroxide and yeah, it can get pretty spicy. I never got any worse than a temporary white spot on my skin, though. I carefully avoided using catalysts of any sort and just treated it like any other rocket oxidizer and lit it off with a good spark-torch igniter, so you're on your own for making mere chemical reactions vs flames.
near pure peroxide forced through pure silver screens is what powers old single person jet packs. The exhaust is just water.
The scuffed nature of the investigation web makes it 10x better. The iron man pointer, poor printing job, the knife pin... just *chefs kiss
hi i love ur channel
only 1 xomment let me change that
Loved the storytelling! That gun scares me, and that's coming from a guy who built a hot glue supersoaker...
hello!
Glue Gunner should not be added to Titanfall 3, but you can have this hazmat suit, in the form of a perk called Battle Hardened
Also, the linear accelerator rifle is a particle beam weapon utilizing gravitational field generators to accelerate proton particles to near lightspeed in a similar way to a water cannons and glue gunners
lol
glue monkey irl?!?
Yoooo
I'm so glad all you science guys made a podcast together. Even nerds can be hilarious. "Mark Rober, or should I say Mars Rover?" cracked me up
7:15 This reminds me of the fueling process for the ME-163 Nazi Germanys rocket interceptor. One of the fuels for the rocket was so dangerous that it could dissolve a human. The fuels were T-Stoff (80 percent hydrogen peroxide and 20 percent water) and C-Stoff (hydrazine hydrate, methyl alcohol, and water). If I recall correctly when fueling one truck would pull up fuel then drive off and the second truck would then pull up to fuel the rocket. It was so that they didn't mix the fuels prematurely as contact with each other would ignite the fuel and explode.
the pouring of an “instantly flammable chemical” on your girlfriend skit was recognized and very much so appreciated

I was literally just searching for how to make devils toothpaste, thanks for doing it for me lol

Who are you and why do you have Nigel tied up in your basement
Uh oh
Thanks! Keep up the good work

Great video, I couldn't imagine how much work you and Mark put in to make these videos you two are real legends!
I have enjoyed learning and watching this with my kids. though every video I'm like don't do this lol. you have made my whole family science lovers. that is not an easy task. we all hated school you make it so much fun

Very amazing and somewhat terrifying at the same time!
And I absolutely love it!
I think you mixed the tanks up, which may be why one of them exploded.
in the first shot, you put the green liquid in one tank, and in the second shot you put the red liquid in the same tank you previously put the green liquid in.
Best label those tanks.
Oh yes looks like you're right, well spotted
that's hilarious he even mentioned he needed to label them
Kevin, love your videos. They show how things work at the basic, build it your self level making it easy to understand the working dynamics of them.
Would you please create a video/project demonstrating how super heated salt can create super heated steam to power a turbine that creates electricity. Then see how many of your house or your toys you can power with it? It'd be really cool to see and real world challenge. Not to mention giving young kids ideas on how to power their future.
Knowing how hot it can get, 9:38 You could use this as a weapon, first you would soak your enemies, and confuse them, then it would expand and start burning them and they cant stop it
That is against the geneva convention
Lol

im only 3 1/2 minutes in and this is already my favorite video of 2022 from all the science homies. i loved the cheeky but also quality detective work to expose mark rober and all of his dastardly lies 🤣 you're both awesome
Dude so true!
Very cool, lets make cool comments, you rule, I miss watching everything he does as well.

“How am i doing? Horrible. Thanks for asking!” Lmbo!!😂
Most underrated genus jokester….❤
My favorite thing about your videos is that you list off everything that can and probably will go wrong, but you always follow it up with "let's try it".
I think why it ruptured (from my testing and messing around with concentrating peroxide) is the dust and also metal in the brass, metal ions cause peroxide to decompose and that probably lead to the tank rupturing from the oxygen being generated
Bro, idk if you write for your own videos but if you do, you are hilarious. Love this channel.
great video man thanks for the content all these years

Sorry, sorry, that whole first 5 minutes was pure genius. Kevin, you're a legend.
What I love is that for everyones safety and the countries....a government organisation has contacted and talked to Marc Rober and Backyard Scientist....most likely. All they are doing is checking everything you do out and making sure no one makes it easy to spill the 11 Herbs and Spices Secret Ingredient of Yalls backyard fun Science Experiments.
I guarantee someone has the simple job and know how on what problems can occur in the wrong hands.
Why did I have to search for this damn it, I should have been harassed with your thumbnail every day ! This was brilliant and funny af love you both 💡❤🙏
ok the fact that the backyard scientist has been making videos my whole life just warms my heart they’ve always been there and i’m so glad that you’re still here doing insane experiments and having fun

I got the impression you were closing in on the formula for rocket fuel.
Also, when you utter the words, "I'm so afraid this will explode." Heed the words, man!! 😄
6:27 Hmmm. looks clear! must be water.
Here I am, just kicking back having some beers waiting to play some Resident Evil 8 after playing thru the whole series over the last month and this guy goes down the "mars rover" rabbit trail making me spit out my beer from laughter. This is great. 10/10 suggest this channel to anyone that enjoys science and humor.
2:56 that scream though! 😂 it sounds so terrified but it’s just an “AAHH” like how my cousin got scared by a mealworm in the bathroom and went on a rant for like 30 mins about how terrified he was, and guess what sound he made when he saw it? The tiniest little “aaaaa”
7:15. I totally forgot at this point that you were making a squirt gun 🤣 that’s how you KNOW you caught someone’s attention explaining lol
I can't believe I haven't heard of this guy sooner, his content is genuinely funny.
Love your vids Kevin KEEP EM COMIN!
Now I really want to see you get tips from Explosions&Fire on making high % peroxide from O2 and cooling the peroxide. 60-80% peroxide (probably store in Teflon bottle with outside painted black) would be wild.

This is super cute and very amusing. Thanks for making great content!
Ive been trying to get good peroxide reactions, for a monoprop rcs thruster, and what ive discovered is that most commercially available peroxides have stabilizing agents present that make it really hard for the peroxide to decompose, leading to a slower reaction rate. there is 2 work arounds i have found, 1. buy the proper stuff with no stabilizing agents, 2. (not as good but still effective) use potassium permanganate, this tends to react with the stabilizer, causing a faster reaction rate while also being one of the most effective catalysts out there.
loved the project... but unmasking mark's conspiracy was epic!! 😂
This works similar to the expanding foam used for insulation
Lol, your board reminds me of classic Glen Beck. He used to do that all the time but he was serious.

Mark Rober: The Elephants Toothpaste reaction is exothermic and generates a ton of heat, and can burn somebody!
The Backyard Scientist: *makes a squirt gun out of it*
All your videos are scary, I mean like you mess with fire, sparks and explosions in a t shirt.
Still very very great content, beats others I've see, cause they beat around the bush explaining this and that, but yours is the bomb literally
You should consider a leather smock and face shield or something that can protect against shrapnel when dealing with endothermic and high pressure reagents
Love how the first few minutes of the video are decoding a formula, hidden from you for safety reasons, for what we know to be a dangerous chemical, that could possibly be classified as a weapon.
@K A D Y 📽️ Not you again.

I should've guessed from the turning toys into death traps videos... but you're sounding a bit super-villainy in this; like Rober is your arch nemesis you're trying to take down.

I laugh so hard when he said Mark Rober or should I say mars rover.😂😂😂
Backyard scientist I need your idea on this, I live in Florida so it’s very humid and we have a dehumidifier and we get a lot of water in it so is it possible to collect the water clean it and use a water weal to power it all and then you have sustainable energy and water. Do you think this would work

You have literally made the foam shooter from prey! that's actually so cool... and only made cooler by the danger of it exploding

I think the way the components are getting mixed could definitely be optimised. In many 2 components glues they use special mixing nossels which contain some kind of spirals. You could use something like this to get a proper mixture
The only man I would count to be able to replicate something like Devil's Toothpaste
I've been watching the safety third podcast and I was just thinking it would be great to have a new BYS video

The yellow color of Mark's 2nd solutions could come from silver nanoparticles, which will significantly increase the speed of the reaction. You can also increase the pH of the hydrogen peroxide solution to make the reaction faster. Or, you can use warm solutions (NEVER heat 60% peroxide past warm to touch).
I don't think this has happened in the past, but I really wanna see you and "styropyro" do collabs.
Glad you're safe, this was definitely one of your more dangerous projects. Very entertaining though, thanks for the video.
especially the part where hes touching his face and hair with what im assuming are dirty or contaminated lol

"Concentrated hydrogen peroxide is like, rocket fuel!"
And then he's surprised when his concentrated mix makes a lot of thrust and heat... like a rocket.
(But yes this sounds similar to that steam rocket Integza made, based off the Me 163 Komet engine)

My man just made an acid sprayer with the failed attempt
It's likely you are correct about the reaction between the more concentrated peroxide solution and the brass. High test peroxide was used as an ingredient in the propellant mixture used in some torpedoes from the late 40's until the end of the cold war. It is widely speculated that an HTP leak in the housing of a torpedo that was loaded into a brass lined launch tube was the cause of the Kursk disaster.
