    All of us have felt personally attacked by a Jchown “what not to do clip” that’s why we are here 🙌🏻 Trust the process and do the drills, you will see improvement!

    Was at the range tonight trying to have hands drop down while back still at target and a lot of what you said will happen was. Steep=hitting them high and weak, standing up some, maybe that's why I tend to them thin a lot. Ok, I'll get back to this feeling now. Thanks for saving me time and aggravation.

    I think some of the "arms dropping" or "pulling down
    or "ring the bell" type terminology is just a matter of timing more than positioning or motion. For some people they just feel like the arms need a headstart or perhaps because of the natural tendency to use the hands the arms obviously follow. I just always go back in my mind to a face on picture of a pro when the club is at parallel on the downswing and see that right bicep pinned against the chest and the arm at 90 and the wrist fully set and it reminds me the arms only work in concert with the torso and i can't work them independently other than to keep them working with my body driven by my legs and backside.

    Caught your video on recommendation from YT .. I must say, for me (and probably others like me) who are tall and had it drilled into our heads over the years to be "passive" with the arms and build a "body" swing... Even if it's only a "feel" thing at full speed - Feeling like I'm consciously and actively dropping my arms down in advance of my body turning has made a huge difference in all aspects of my swing - Improved contact, increased distance, decreased wild misses, decreased mishits... I do practice the Justin Rose/Tiger Woods drill where you actively move the arms down first, and it has worked wonders. For me it gives the club time to work down from the inside like it's supposed to, as opposed to over the top or outside. The key is to learn proper timing of blending this move with a proper body turn. Still a work in progress but what a difference...

    Justin Rose has talked about moving his arms down first with his back still to the ball. I think it is more of a feeling than an actual fact. It helps golfers who move there lower body too quickly and end up with the arms stuck behind.

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  Před 2 měsíci

      Absolutely, I made a few videos on Justin’s feel. It’s more a feel suited for extreme over the top players 👍🏼

    Just when you think you’ve covered all aspects of the swing and expect to see repeats you come up with something new. Brilliant!

      @neilbelcher3577 Před 2 měsíci

      This is my bad mistake at the moment I think of it as trying to hit/ bat at the ball rather than hitting through it and realised it’s from pulling from the top and your previous drills have really helped but this new perspective is a great addition to help me. One of the ways I have been countering it is to rehearse the follow through position and allow my muscle memory to take me to it.
      Great content mate👍👍👍

      Took me 5 years of sucking at this game to finally feel “shutting off my arms” I used to think they were passive, but it wasn’t even close. The ball rockets off the club face and it seems like it doesn’t make sense cause of how soft impact feels. Arms off “has made my iron game 10x better cause everything stays in play now.

    some of my best strikes come from feeling like I'm literally just a floating torso-- no arms, no legs, no hands... just rotating my torso away from target and rotating through towards the target on the way down and let everything move as naturally as possible. it works well, but my scoop/flip is still present.

    It seems like the clubface is too open doing this. How do I get the clubface closed/square while feeling "nothing" in my hands/arms?

    • @EdamameDuffelBag
      @EdamameDuffelBag Před 2 měsíci +1

      If you do it right, your hands should naturally square the face at impact. If they don’t, I would start at checking your grip first. One lesson that took me years to learn was that I thought my arms were off, but I actually still had too much tension in the wrists and elbows, which caused me to keep the face open too long.

    Great stuff, JC. Glad you pointed out the out to in method option, clockwise loop, at 5:50. That works for me. I can't do this OTTFI method taught by My Swing Evoluton where you drag it way inside.

      There may be an additional reasoning to why you’re doing this if you’ve practiced correctly for 5 years without improvement

  • @Rich-ey7jv
    @Rich-ey7jv Před 2 měsíci

    AMEN. It appears that the drop your arms cliché is making a come back. Don't do it! I can shoot in the seventies, occasionally, and purposely dropping your arms will lead to crap shots. You are so much better off with rotary miss hits, than slamming your club into the ground. REMEMBER: golf is about your misses not the one out of twenty good shots that you'll get from "dropping" your arms. Yes you can be good by dropping your arms, if you practice eight hours a day. You have been warned!

  • @chachifeere

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Certain players have different feels. If you look/measure their hand path, it’s not moving vertically down. A vertically down feel can help extreme over the top guys, but they won’t in reality achieve a dead straight down hand path, it’s a feel to get them to an ideal spot. Be careful when interpreting top players feels, almost always they’re just that, they’re feels. Feel isn’t real.

    • @inusprinsloo1257

      Agree. Switching arms off only leads to slices
