Part of a series of videos on the folklore, symbolism and Mythology of various flowers, plants, herbs and trees of Britain, Ireland and Northern Europe.
The Blue Bell has a myriad of folk names, the Dead Man's Bell, The Fairy Bell, the Crow Foot or the Cuckoo Bell. Most of these names denote an association with Spring and Early Summer, with the Celtic fire Festival of Beltane, or Beltaine otherwise known as May Day. A Festival of fertility when the spirit world and ancestors are close at hand.
This is why the Bluebell also is strongly associated with Fairies, the fey, the elves, the sídhe the fair folk, the good people, whatever you want to call them.
It is strongly associated with magic, wicca, witchcraft band and spell lore.
It is a protected species in Britain where most of the worlds population of the bluebell reside.

I wanted to live amongst Oaks my whole life. I am in Colorado where they don't really have that many Oaks. To me the Cottonwood Trees remind me of what it must be like to be in a Oak forest. My soul and my DNA are still connected with Albion and when I visit my favorite Cottonwood groves it helps me remember what it was like. They get huge. I have done a lot of work around them. There doesn't exist much lore that I can find about them but they are very Oak'ish to me.

Thank you for sharing some lore around the bluebell. There's nothing better than to lay amongst them on a warm day and breathe in their sweet scent, it's quite intoxicating. My Nan used to say it's the very scent of heaven and that 'the visitors' that come to ease a loved ones passing bring with them the scent of bluebells.

Any books you advise about folklore plants/flowers?

Robert graves ‘white goddess’ is a bit dated and also quite heavy going, but has great section on the trees in the ogham. I also have a book called ‘botanical folklore’ which is a bit fluffy, but nice. Then there’s a vintage one called ‘flower and plant lore’ but more to do with flowers. Tbh. There isn’t a lot on this topic that I’m aware of, so good luck ☺️

Hard to appreciate the bluebell properly. In British Columbia Canada where I live it is a nasty weed and I curse it every spring. It chokes out other bulbous flowers. It's almost impossible to eradicate without simply removing all the soil and replacing it.

Whats the procedure for truth telling, is it too intricate or does it get immoral/illegal, haha?
