Ocarina of Time is a remake of Link to the Past. Change my mind.
They should do this bingo next year, but have several people play and the winner gets to yell bingo winning some kind of special zelda prize.

There would be no way to ever tell who's in the lead, though. Some of the tricks can take seconds if combined with others correctly. It's still an excellent idea and should definitely be considered!

That perfect HESS through Haunted Wasteland alone makes this the best run of the marathon. I'm in absolute awe.
It's amazing that despite this being random, he still set foot in every major dungeon except Jabu Jabu and of course Hyrule Castle. When he says it's balanced, he ain't kidding.
take away the zelda aspect and it just sounds like a podcast about a couple guys who are PSYCHED about bingo.
For me, this is probably the first GDQ couch that really makes a great case for it's community. It really does seem like these guys just chill, meme, and play OoT endlessly. I actually want to get into this DatSheffy

Tank you guys so much for uploading the vods, unfortenetly due to my schedule i cant watch these on twitch. But the uploads you guys have done for the SGDQ have been soo much better this marathon then before. I have noticed No audio issues this year(at least in the ones i've watched so far) and your editing is on point this year without the 20 mins before and after games in the vods that used to be there in previous uploads for the GDQ marathons.

I think they didn't do it here because there are a LOT of people who have never seen a bingo and have no idea how it works, so they need a single runner explaining how it works before the viewer can watch 2 screens simultaneously and know who is doing better

Yeah, I feel like they would need an amazing commentator to keep everyone up to speed on what both players were even doing. That being said, the couch for this run probably could've handled it so if they just bring these dudes back (or at least bring similarly qualified and articulate people) a bingo race would be sweet next time.
RBA = reverse bottle adventure. The glitch that lets you overwrite your bottle for other items.

no thats bottle duping, reverse bottle adventure lets you put bottle on b and then manipulate your item count from that

This was pretty cool. It's good to see that to this day there's still creative and interesting ways to play Ocarina of Time.
I absolutely want to see an OoT Bingo race at the next GDQ, that way we could see two completely different routes.
I'd prefer a randomizer race, as it forces them to think on the spot, and gives the person in 2nd place a small advantage to catch-up (they know the future result of the seed, if the competitor is far ahead).

I was gonna comment and say but i see Venkos beat me to it. Did you watch the randomizer race that was made for A Link to the Past at AGDQ? If not I highly recommend it, one of my favourite runs to date at the event!
When they last did a randomizer race they had 2 turned slightly so the players couldn't see the other persons screen. That makes it much more interesting and I assume that would always be the set up for those kind of races.
I really miss the old venue/feel from 2013, so calm and homely, but this year seems a bit more professional and the graphics look much nicer 👌
I just realized how the timer shows the time in the blue rectangles behind it as well. The far right is .1 second, next is 1 second, then 10 seconds, then a minute, then 10 minutes, then an hour. Pretty cool way of showing the time.

Yeah, I thought it was a binary counter, and complained that it skipped numbers. Then I realized that each column represented a digit in the timer.

Love when the runners get into the history of their speedrunning strats and community. As someone from outside the speedrunning scene it is super fascinating. Good job with the run guys. :)
I love these kind of runs at GDQ. Since the event is a young adult by now after all these years, some games are a bit outplayed, even considering strats and routes constantly changing and improving. But to see something like this (and the Link to The Past randomizer race that was done earlier at AGDQ *if I remember correctly*) is SUCH a fun and refreshing experience when it comes to these old classic titles that everybody loves! So glad this was showcased and stoked to see what other "special" categories are run in future GDQs!

This dude playing reminds me of Like neo in the matrix , like he has been playing and exploiting the games glitches for so long that he can maneuver through the game however he wants . That’s awesome lol
What an awesome idea for a run, I love this. I hope this Bingo concept is picked up by more games, I would love to see it become a common way of running open world games.
I can’t upvote this hard enough. What a great run to show - weird alternate run types like randomizer and bingo show us new and interesting ways to play old games like this or Link to the Past or Super Metroid and great runners like runnerguy do them excellently and are great to watch, especially with such a great couch

I replied in a comment that this needs a 4 player race. I now think that it needs a 3 player race, so there's room on the screen to see the bingo card, and still give us a decent view of the runners and couch.

Ah, runnerguy. One of the guys that got me into watching speedruns. So good to see him! I remember that cute video he did when he had the WR in segmented OoT where he showed off his funniest fails. Speedruns were different back then, when speeddemosarchive was my place to go and when GDQ still streamed from someone's basement. I think I even had a small crush on runnerguy back in the day lol
This should definitely be a race for future GDQ's. Would be so hype.

Am I the only one that's bothered by the binary counter behind the timer skipping numbers?
Each column goes 0000, 0001, 0010, 0011, 0100, 0101, 0110, 0111, 1000, 1001, and then it carries a bit to the next column, skipping 1010, 1011, 1100, 1101, 1110, 1111.
Edit: I'm an idiot. This is intentional. Each column represents a digit in the counter.
So the first column is milliseconds. The second column is ones position of the seconds. The third column only counts up to 6, and is the tens position of the seconds. Third and fourth columns are minutes. Fifth column is hours.
You figured it out: it's binary-coded decimal. Under the hood, that's how most digital clocks (including the one in your computer) actually work.
This took me a couple minutes too lol

What is the glitch that was discovered that changed 100%?
A new way to use equip swap, by using elemental arrows. But by now they found another new glitch to change the 100% route, a way to skip castle collapse

Saving money to donate, mostly. Some people can forego luxury for quite some time if only to make a big donation to charity.
It's a business expense and a huge tax write off. The Yetee get's a huge tax break by donating so much money to charity.
The 5k+ donations usually come from companies supporting GDQ, like The Yeti, which handles the GDQ merch. They usually send in the merch proceedings through several 10k+ donations throughout the event.

I don't think they said it but RG uses a 1.0 cart and i'm assuming it's his.
It actually doesn't matter, as version specific glitches across n64 versions of the game are banned in bingo.
Why would they ever run bingo as anything but a race, that's the whole point...

Yea, it makes sense since most people won’t know anything about bingo. This allowed them to explain everything so that when they inevitably do a race next GDQ, they don’t need to go over the history again.

whats the catch if the runner know the bingo card?
The idea is that they see the card for the first time when the game begins anew, and they have to make up strategies and routes on the fly.
i expected the bingo thing to be more like:
couch picks a column/row each and doesnt reveal it even to teh runner
the runner plays the game on like a 100% route
the first one to have the runner fulfill all actions on their chosen column/row wins and ends the run
The thing with that idea is that most runs have a set pattern of milestones being completed, meaning that whether you win or not depends on how much early/midgame milestones you have on your card. Maybe letting a casual player run the game would be an idea, but that would probably take too long.

GregTom2 they required itens that were to out of the way to make getting them worth it
In spirit temple, you need Zelda's Lulliby to get the compass and runngerguy does not get that song so we cant get that compass, in Fire Temple, the compass is deep in the dungeon and inconvenient to get, when we can just get the bosskey and fight the boss right away anyways.

Anthony Far as I know, the goal is to acquire or perform the tasks on a (I think) randomized bingo board to try and get bingo as quickly as possible. The main draw is that it seems you can’t see the bingo board until the run begins, so you have to figure out the fastest thins to go for on the fly.

The card is built using a random generator, the details of which are discussed at length in the video. They also mention this a bit, but bingo runs are generally a race rather than a solo run. Not mentioned explicitly is that the card is generated as the run begins, so the players have the opening cutscene to look over the card and make their selection. Winner is the first person to complete all the objectives in any one row, column, or diagonal.
