- Insta360 Ace Pro is not great at vlogging, with the minimal focus distance set like 40 feet into the future. But what it lacks in focus, it more than makes up for in FUN. Testing out the A.I modes and hyperlapses. What if you used this camera just to be creative and have fun? Then it's better than any other action cam right now. Except the Sony X3000 of course. DJI Action 4 still sharper without a close focusing filter, and even my Huawei P40 Pro smartphone looks better for vlogs. But that doesn't mean this camera doesn't have some serious strengths and character.

I've only just started following you and i never thought that I'd be watching a young Doug Stanhope teaching me about camera equipment.
Its just single frame processing the prompt, through a chosen style (which are other hidden prompt settings). So each frame conforms to the prompt, but each cycle is new output. Give it a couple of years and it will achieve consistency

Big props to Insta360 for the risky financial investment of shipping an action cam with a 5nm processing chip! It mean more computational capabilities along with reduced heat and decent battery life. No one else is doing this in this price range.
That extra processing power is what allows the noise reduction in low-light conditions, along with other features. It also means that significant firmware enhancements with new features will be technically possible if they choose to do that. This is a big challenge to other action-cam companies so let's see how they respond. We consumers will all benefit from this healthy competition.
And yet it can't do 480 fps like the Akaso Brave 8.
@@cameraconspiracies but that was my point regarding future features via firmware updates. It is possible so let's see if they do it. I would consider paying a subscription for that kind of enhancement if they commit to it. What do you think?

Of all people, you have made it clear that all these companies continue to compromise and cripple their products so they don’t compete and cannibalize the sales of their other products. That is the main reason that they are selective with firmware updates. Subscriptions could change that. They could even offer cameras at a lower price, and remain competitive. You may want to reconsider this in the future.

Great review and funny as always, Kasey. Also liked the AILSD stuff. Still would like to see how it performs at night, if you ever feel like comparing it to similar cameras sometime, as it's very low-light performance is supposed to be one of it's strengths.

Yeah the AI thing could be great if it would just pick a theme and track everything with that theme, but that's the problem. It's taking the frames one by one and treating them as individual pictures rather than tracking objects in a motion picture which takes a lot of compute power. Soooo it's a neat idea on paper, maybe not so much in practice. In other words, it's a gimmick feature rather than a usable function. I still think they are moving in the right direction though and I'm looking forward the updates and new versions on the horizon. Once they pack a 1" into this bitch, I'm gonna take it real seriously! Did you try the different color modes? Maybe there’s one that makes the colours more normal or better skin tone.

Honestly it looks pretty good. As long as you’re not self vlogging or doing any close ups. And that the colours are sometime terrible, but that’s expected from insta - i mean they can’t suddenly just switch from toy digital colours to realistic or pleasing colours. Probably the second or third iteration of this will be excellent.

I just got a DJI pocket 3, thought, cool I’ll do 4k 10bit blah blah blah, then go to export it and the upload is totally dark, like walking into a dark room with sunglasses on, sorry for my noobness, and thanks for your content :)

What are you using for your AI clips? To me it looks like you're not using the same seed (setting the same seed will help with consistency) and your denoise setting is set way too high (Lowering this value to around 0.15-0.3 will restrict the AI from changing the image to wildly). Also, using controlnet with open pose and depthmap is a great idea to guide the AI into getting the results you need.
None of those things are options in the Insta360 app.

I see you are using a Siriu 1.2... Would you say a 1.2 works well on APS-C for talking head? Nobody ever talks about that / seems to use it. But it would be obvious choice for max toneh, no? There must be a downside? It looks good though

With that computing power, they should provide 10bit, as well as the option to turn HDR on/off. Furthermore I'd prefer that AI thing to morph into a single frame (with cross dissolve and a specified amount of time, which you could config) instead of that gimmicky ai frame overkill. The AI warp on the Ace Pro is way too dizzying and sporadic for me. They need to make it where the scene isn't constantly changing every millisecond. Simply put... the AI has a loooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go. Because right now, it just looks stupid.

An idea for your other channel really, but I think you should do one about how you’ve given your face over to the matrix on the facial recognition spectrum. That you choose not to give everything to the matrix, but you have chosen for your appearance to be there to get certain benefits

Amazingly hilarious video, yet right at the start I knew of its origins. Don't ever let a company guilt you into feeling a certain way for telling the truth. The DJI Action stomps all over this AI driven piece of nonsense, and the whole picture just feels off. One of my biggest pet peeves is people who feel everything needs to be overly-positive, however false and misleading it is. The truth sets us free. It keeps camera companies improving. Insta360 Corporation: "Why were you so critical of our product? Do you need a hug? We gave you free gear!" ....GTFO. How about make a genuine product that isn't a one trick pony, with a completely useless trick and inverted color science. Never change, and always be your authentic self Mr. Conspiracy. Just missing your two metre Insta360 selfie stick with Ace Pro banner for those selfie shots. Then you use the crop down to 4K for zooming back in.
Edit: Got to 14 mins and you're doing that, but missing the banner lol.
Other reviews (such as Worth It Or Not) have vlogged with the Ace Pro and not had the skin tone problems. Zooming in is a digital crop, so it will obviously degrade IQ. As for focus, my Insta360 One RS 1-inch mod requires about 90-100cm to get the face in focus for vlogging. I can hold it at arms length and get my face in focus. I have also made my own filter holder for the 1-inch mod, so I can mount a close up filter, or an ND/variable ND or CPL, etc.. The AI stuff works better in a less cluttered environment, but I have no idea why it doesn't just pick a character and stick with it.

its wild t owatch this footage as someone from toronto that has filmed these same streets with a gopro hero 5. The footage on tha was so bad I had lost all hope for it, so jittery, colourless and dark. Acepro looks like Action cams have finally come that far, isnt a copmplete waste of money in 2023/4
