  • We take a look at a Total Lock locking caster and discuss how the mechanism functions. The model used for demonstration is a Series #20 light to medium duty Total Lock with thermoplastic rubber tread wheel. When the foot switch is depressed, a tread lock engages the wheel and three prongs become inserted into the crenelated lower raceway. This action brakes the wheel and locks the swivel to create a stationary, non-swiveling, locking caster.

Hi Allen, is there a video on how to stop the swivel, but without stopping the wheel from moving?

Truly hope I hear from you. Have two very similar wheels on a standing ice chest. The chest has two wheels that don't lock. Two wheels that have a l lateral locking handle. Had very strong winds yesterday. One of the loockin wheels no longer locks. Is there a simple fix?

HI is there such a caster that allows you to lock the swivel plate but still allow you to rotate the wheel? I'm building a work bench and want to be able to move in a straight line with swivel casters to steer and a fixed set to track straight. then if I need to move in anyone given direction be able to unlock the fixed castor end for full movability any help on such a wheel and its proper name would be great cheers.

Hi, Allan. I'm sure you've discovered by now that there are casters that have a separate swivel lock mechanism.
