10, 20, 50, 100 years from now people will still be listening to and marveling at the genius of Pink Floyd
Spot On!
So true it is a forever song and band
The world won't be here in 100 years, lucky if we make it another 50 years...
@@brenthenderson3983 The world will be here, we won't.
And I was one of the lucky ones getting to see them live twice in their absolute prime. April 12, 1975 at the Cow Palace in South San Francisco and in 1977 at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. Wow wow wow. Incredible. I still have the cassette audio tape from the 1975 show, I snuck a mini cassette recorder in and taped the entire 4 hour show. They played the entire Dark Side of the Moon Album, then Echoes Album and finally their new Album in 75, Wish you were Here.
Most songs you've listened to have been from the album "The Wall" so that's why you recognize similar lyrical themes.
Boy, was us Brits spoilt in the 70s, Floyd, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Purple...Hawkwind. A great decade to be young.
Non ti credere , anche in Italia è stata la stessa cosa
You damn Brits, are in class of your own!!! Unreacheble!!! You Bastards!!!
The Wall is a concept album and tells a story of Pink and his demons mainly his Mother, you need to listen from start to finish and how the Wall features in his life.
Also, "Mother" can be interpreted other than literally. These folks are intelligent. I'll bet if they take time to listen beginning to end (The Wall album) they'll get it.
After hearing this song for years now , I was Today years old when I realized the connection of "Hey You" to "Mother"
David Gilmour has this amazing ability to design his guitar solos to perfectly match the emotions of the song, it’s like the solo matches the mood and feeling and no one does this like him in my opinion.
Agree 100%.
It's been said that David Gilmour doesn't use a guitar amplifier. He plugs his guitar straight into your soul.
@@steve9199 well my soul has been plugged for several decades for sure 😉
@@user-jv1vh3bq9j Same brother...same
To Carry The Stone refers to ones life burdens that can be the fall of ones life. It is not only used in this album The Wall, but also referenced in their album Animals.
There's just no other band like Pink Floyd. They are one of one.
Immensely powerful album, as is most everything they did!
You gave a great reaction without messing with the song. Great work guys.
Roger Waters is my favourite Lyricist , I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live in Prague having seeing Pink Floyd in 1989 after Rodger Waters left the band
He's pretty damn bitter and hateful this last decade. Actually a d ouc he.
Listened since Saucerful of Secrets. He's so insecure and stuck in his miserable childhood. Bummer.
The wall is all on it's own for Floyd's sound, this track is just immense a descent into madness behind the wall.
I always thought of the 'stone' as a metaphor for the burdens of life. They mention it also in Dogs off of the Animals album.
Correct in both instances.
I have been PF nut since 1980..open minded reactors like yourselves WILL have your minds pleasantly blown by songs like Shine On You Crazy Diamond..Wish You Were Here..Dogs..Echoes...and explore the Pulse Concert more...Satisfaction is garunteed.. from Sol in Cape Town.
you really need to watch the entire film "The Wall" explains it all, the wall is the self protection, the character Pink has built up around himself as self protection from various hurts he suffered as a child/adult
I’m thankful for my trips to Laser Floyd at the NY Planetarium✌🏻
Since you are still new to Pink Floyd, now would be the time to change the way you approach them. Go to the album , Dark Side of the Moon ( the highest selling album of the 70’s, snd in the top five in history) and start with the first track snd move through it. Do the same with the next album, Wish You Were Here and then Animals. Floyd ‘s albums are concept albums, meant to be listened to as an entire piece. Since you dont do entire album reactions, the next best thing is to do the tracks in order, so you get the context of each song. I would suggest doing it this way, starting with your next Floyd reaction.
And once you’ve done those albums, go back and listen to the album Meddle. The entire second side is an amazing trip of a song. Their magnum opus imo. Echoes.
Agreed. Call it blasphemy if you will, but I’ve always liked One of these Days better than Echoes. Just my taste. And I always catch crap for saying so. I do love echoes as well. The only two tracks worth listening to. IMO
@@scottlaughlin9897 I won’t give you any crap fir your preference! It’s all great music. 😁✌️
@@scottlaughlin9897 you mean the only two tracks on that album?
Deep Purple are another brilliant British band you need to listen to Child in time is their master piece so many transitions.
I agree, there is hope too in this song.
From the superb album the wall. You must watch if you haven’t already. A masterpiece.
Love your reactions. As I'm sure you know it's the location of the track in the album itself that is critical to understanding mixed emotions and drive behind the song. It is a spoiler if you don't plan to listen to the album from start to finish in order, but it might help to read up on the concept of The Wall. Again, thanks for your reactions. I am really enjoying your dynamic and thoughts.
Yep! The Wall album pretty much demands you listen beginning to end, it's a complete story!
Great reaction! I love your passion for great music. Pink Floyd has a deep catalog from 1966 onwards that will blow your mind and will change your perception of what music can be and can make you feel. I can still remember (like it was yesterday) when I first listened as a 12 year old to The Dark Side of the Moon album in the summer of '73. Once I listened to that album my brain was rewired. If nothing else, listen to the song The Great Gig in the Sky from that album, to this day it still makes me cry. Love
Watch the movie after you've finished the wall!
You're exactly right. To better understand Roger's meaning in the music on this album you must see the movie!!!
Slightly stoned
They are most ancient ...beautifully perfect.
Huge Floyd fan here…my fav album is Animals…and of course the song Echoes on the Meddle album is a must …. Saw them in concert 3 times, each was a sensory overload
I would be very interested if this lovely couple would do a reaction on the pink Floyd the wall movie. It's quite trippy actually. I remember as a young boy in the 80s watching it while drinking mushroom tea 🤪
Hi! Greetings from California 🇺🇸. I have to say that your videos are awesome but the most remarkable thing about your videos is the line of expensive Gibson Les Paul's on the wall behind you,not to mention the rest of the studio gear in that place. I'm slightly jealous of you 😅
YES - Heart of the Sunrise
I saw them do this Live in London in the 80's.
What a night....
You did a great job with you’re interpretation of the song. You picked up on the main themes of the entire album:
Self isolation, the wall is metaphorical.
For an added treat, check out David Gilmour's self-titled first solo album (1978). It came out between the albums Animals and The Wall, and you can definitely hear Gilmour working out progressions and solos that would later become integrated into some of the biggest hits on The Wall, most notably an instrumental called "Raise My Rent" which is basically a first draft for "Hey You". Its also just a great album on its own, with Gilmour's signature vocals and guitar creating that Pink Floyd atmosphere. "There's No Way Out Of Here", "Short and Sweet" and "I Can't Breathe Anymore" are classics.
I recommend the studio version of Great Gig in the Sky from Darkside of the moon, a real tear jerker beyond anything you can imagine
I don't listen to Floyd anymore because I know how real it is. Just fucking unbelievable. How did they manage to create it🤔
Love from Florida! If you haven't yet, please watch the movie "The Wall" and you will better understand.
I have wondered if HE is behind the wall and wants out, but STILL asks for help in carrying the stone to YET continue building the wall higher.
"Shine on you Crazy Diamond" studio version. Virtually every other PF song should be reacted to from live versions. Love seeing your reactions.
I would add the Animals album to the studio listens also
@@crazyfingers19 I agree. But have you seen Roger's "In the Flesh" of Dogs with Snowy White? Really something to see.
@@donfite9269 no doubt but I think the trinity (WYWH, DSOTM, and Animals) show the wonderful production and orchestration that the boys wanted you to hear. It’s all good though, right?
Absolutely!
Just luv Waters desperation in he's voice so genuine
This live from The Wall concert , I think it was 1981 , is epic as the all are. Mother from that as well with extended guitar solo.
I think you’re ready for Animals by PF.
That masterpiece is pure gold.
It's my favorite Floyd album, and a desert island candidate. At one point in the early 80's, this and a greatest hits album called "Classic Yes" were the only two albums I had. I had an hour long commute to and from work, and I listened to one or the other almost every day. Never got tired of listening, and I still listen to them today.
SORROW from the 1994 Pulse concert will be your favorite after you listen-to/watch it. It is my personal favorite live performance of all time. Killer guitarwork, long-incredibly-great-solo at the end...vocals, lights, synth, major drums and percussion. I can't wait for you to wagch it. Love yoir PF reactions alot!!!
Well done. And you choose the right version of this great psychedelic song because you can hear the vocals of David and also of Roger. Now you should try to..."Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun"
I saw Roger Waters at Yankee Stadium in 2013..it was The Wall tour...it's the best show I've ever seen..like rock n roll opera. Please listen to it start to finish, then watch the movie
Saw that tour of the Wall in Hartford, one of the best shows, ever, the new graphics and special effects enhanced the experience. Saw Pink Floyd 4 times (75, 77, 87 & 94), Roger solo 4 times and David twice solo. Best shows EVER!!!
11th grade when The Wall came out. Good times.
Even brought my new lp to school lol
First in Space : Pinkfloyd
I definitely recommend checking out "Time" by pink floyd live, amazing...
well done guys on another great pink floyd reaction, theres lots more amazing songs for you to try, id recommend "ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL" from the pulse concert or "COMING BACK TO LIFE" again fromthe pulse concert, im sure that you will enjoy them both as well as many more,
Both "Comfortably Numb" and "Hey You" are thematically linked on their album The Wall. From The Dark Side of the Moon try "Time," with equally great lyrics, and "The Great Gig in the Sky," with as much meaning as any lyrics can express, or, from Wish You Were Here, "Have a Cigar," which is a criticism of the music industry. Anyway, keep listening to more Pink Floyd!
Great reaction guys! Carol, we will turn you into a "Floydian" soon! You will need to check out their masterpiece "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" which is a tribute song to their longtime friend and former bandmate, Syd Barrett... who took bad drugs one weekend and really screwed up his brain.
Before you do that, check out the hit songs "Money", "Time", "Us and Them"... start with these and enjoy the musical ride... they take you on a journey...
You really should watch the movie, it'll really put all the songs in context.
It's from the wall, based on Experence's in Roger Walters life!
"The Wall", like many Floyd records when Roger Waters was in the band, typically revolve around a theme so it's best to listen to those records in full. This record in particular is telling a story in which each track is a chapter. I strongly recommend you two checking out the album from start to finish to best appreciate it.
Im kinda new to you guys but I absolutely love your channel..especially the Zeppelin reactions❤❤
Appreciate it ❤️❤️❤️
never before in the field of Rock was so much said about so many things by so few words.
Now you have to react to the movie Pink Floyd's The Wall.
Pink Floyd are one of the greats.
The Stone. In Greek mythology Sisyphus is punished in the afterlife being made to carry a huge stone up hill for all eternity never able to reach the top of the hill.
So "carrying a stone" is a metaphor for a great burden that cannot be borne alone.
Hey Elie, has anyone ever told you that you look like the actor OSCAR ISACK😅
If you want context, listen to the album in one sitting, read up on it, then watch the live show, after that, Well David and Roger have both taken to the road and played tracks from this.......The Wall.
Great reaction, guys.
Ne t up, RUN LIKE HELL from the Pulse concert. Make sure you have the closed caption on since you love the lyrical content.
And how about taking on the Doors song ROADHOUSE BLUES. I feel Carol will be in her jam bounce with thus one.
Keep going and enjoy
Beautiful reaction ❤
Sad songs?
Time in a Bottle - Jim Croce
He was a reasonably successful touring musician but wasn't making enough money to justify being away from his young family so he told his Wife that this was his last tour. He wrote this song for his Wife.
He died in a plane crash during that final tour.
A good breakdown of this song
I can only imagine how awful it must be to see the current conflict in the Middle East., for all parties. That is why the internet is so special, we can all reach out to one another as members of the planet Earth and embrace the cultral diversity of each country, with love, solidarity and compassion. That is one of the reasons , Ren who speak to truth is so important. Lets all change the world together and come together in Love and harmony.and respect.TommyBee!
Amazing lyrics!!
Hey Elie & Carol, I'm glad your enjoying your PF journey. I thought I'd suggest another one of their songs to give a listen, if interested. "Pink Floyd - The Great Gig in the Sky (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited)" (by the channel: Pink Floyd) Lets continue the journey, shall we
You should definitely do SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND. Studio version first. I truly believe that song. Is there masterpiece.
During concerts dedicated to the album "The Wall", a team of roadies literally build a WALL between the band and the spectators.
When the song "Hey You" plays, the WALL has become too high, so the character in the story (Pink), seeks to ask for help from those on the other side of the WALL.
"No matter how he tried, he could not break free - And the worms ate into his brain", the worms are symbols of negative forces within ourselves.
You hear remnants of “We don’t need no education” in there.
The film , the film , the film!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaarg!
RIP Richard Wright.. keyboard vocalist, that's where the dynamic sound is. Enjoy and have fun from the past. Be safe well healthy, humble, and kind❤❤😂😂
Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin the "Yin and Yang" of rock. Growing up in the 70's these two bands brought balance to my little universe 😂
Hey guys, no one ever reviews "Not Now John" by Pink Floyd. I think you like its different vibe. Very upbeat and entertaining.
He was speaking to himself essentially
Pink Floyd!!! They have A Album Called The Final Cut Back in the Day Check out*The Gunners Dream*
You will be hooked on this one song with this Album Very Deep. Be cool stay safe.
Everyone has their "Wall". This relates to everyone of us, but remember "Together we stand"
I highly recommend that you watch The Wall movie. All of these songs make much more sense and are much more meaningful in that context.
Great song that will be even better when you do a full album listen to the Wall, a great, double disc concept album and then, movie, about a fictional Rock Star, Pink being the one who the album is about and how he creates a figurative Wall around himself to all others. Amazing stuff from Pink Floyd, listeners will discover them far in the future and still be amazed, this music is utterly timeless and their albums are amazing, full stories. Utter Genius level art. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎷🎶
I think Carol would benefit from watching the movie The Wall which they made from this album. It sheds so much light on the meaning of the songs she has heard from this album. Once you experience the journey you will respect the brilliance.
Esp the flowers lol
pink floyd time pink floyd money pink floyd on the turning away live version pink floyd pigs dogs and sheep all amazing tracks
What a song to this band by u know
U discuss the lyrics meaning but no the music!!
Both important but
The music background
The guitar in the middle of it
Is the main issue it's a song
I follow u everyday even repeatative v🎉🎉🎉
You need to listen to The Wall in its entirety, then watch the movie. New subscriber here. 👍🏻
Bucket List: Watch the movie…….Listen to the album in its entirety……✌️
Hi, it's great to see your reactions, keep it up. Pink Floyd are different to most of the rock bands of the era. Most of their albums are meant to be heard as a whole, so playing individual tracks is doing the song an injustice. Hey You is the second song you have played from the album and movie "THE WALL" which is complicated to understand on it's own. Watch the movie first and then react . If you however decide to keep playing individual tracks from different albums I would advise you to go first for their live contributions like "PULSE". Trust me, they are just as good if not better when they are playing live. I think that what made the big bands of the era so great was that they all were very good playing live. All the best from MALTA.
watch the movie for ALL the context !...much love x
My faves are "Shine on you crazy Diamond", "Pigs" and "Wish you were here"....But there are lots from the Wall album that you cant go wrong with...."Darkside of the moon was extremely popular but I found it somewhat depressing
Glad you enjoyed! Take care you 2 :)
Pink Floyd are deeper than the Mariana trench, smoother than a quantum stabilized atom mirror, cooler than an iceberg in a river of liquid nitrogen, more soul than a chorus of Angels and more zen than 1,000 Buddhist monasteries.
How would you describe Tool? Curious.
@@helenespaulding7562 Sorry I only know a few of their tracks, Floyd are a passion.
@@steveparker8065 understood. I only know perhaps ten of their tracks myself. I’ve just seen many fans describe their music in similar ways. I definitely agree about them that Tool’s lyrics are deep…
Pink Floyd is about the only band that makes me feel stoned even when I am sober.
Elie, reminiscing
Carol, intrigued
Fantastic to see
Please do On The Turning Away Live, possibly the best guitar solo ever IMO.
Watch the movie and you’ll understand.
In da crib. 🙃
This song was performed at some shows during the Pulse tour, and was on some CD releases. You can find a few unofficial youtube videos from the concerts.
P F songs meant to be listened, 1,2,3, etc for full meaning. You should watch the movie the wall.
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?Hey, You! I wonder if you've heard
Of the Winter brothers, Johnny and Edgar, from Texas. Amazing musicians! Check out FRANKENSTEIN live by Edgar Winter and TOBACCO ROAD with Johnny and Edgar. Frankenstein was one of the biggest hits in rock history, and the video is phenomenal, with Edgar playing three instruments in virtuosic fashion.
Thank you CC! This song always seemed mysterious and melancholy.
The character Pink Floyd is hoping the wife he ignored and neglected would stay faithful and waiting for him. She doesn’t! Another brick in his wall of emotional isolation. He blocked her out.
That's your interpretation, but isn't the case
" This song is the moment in which being isolated for so long, breaks him (Pink) . The song is a complex narrative that centres around a nameless person who is basically feeling that no one is answering him or her. The repetition of "Hey You' indicates that the person in the song is desperate to have a connection with other people and bring back his sanity." There is no reference on the album to a wife at all, only to his mother.
All I can say to you two is Watch The Musical Movie called THE WALL...Brilliantly done, and unmatched...not to mention a shame not done more often by Artists that have made albums from start to finish that every song is capable of being the actors voices. I recall Led Zeppelin made an attempt with a rockumentary with their " Movie esq " The Song Remains the Same...Though never put to film and completely in order that I'm aware of, MEATLOAF performed The Bat Out of Hell tour like a play. As I said, The WALL will make alot of sense by giving it a look...and perhaps you'll react to some Led Zeppelin and Meatloaf to bare witness.
the greatest band ever lived, what a rabbit hole to go down
Sorry, I have to call B.S. on her having never heard this. This is a Diamond-certified album, and the fourth best selling album in history, and this is one of the most memorable tracks on the album.
In the very remote possibility there are advanced alien civilizations around Alpha Centauri, they would have picked up on the radio broadcasts and would have been jamming out to The Wall for over 38 years now, lol. It is more probable that there are little green men, somewhere out in the cosmos, smoking some astro-grass and taking in a Laser-Floyd show than someone on Earth still not having heard this song. 🙂
I never heard of it. I don't need to prove that to you. This genre was not my cup of tea so I never had the chance to dive deeper into it.
@@TheCoupleCrib Apologies, I was being sarcastic. I sometimes forget that isn't always conveyed well in text.
I'm always glad when someone embraces such music.
It was a good reaction, and you grasped the meaning of the song quite well.
