- back again with a bit of a different video this time! I've been building large pots in preparation for my first solo art show, eee! come hang with me for a couple days as I build the first of many, i hope y'all find the process as soothing + meditative as I did while making ☁️✨
if you're local swing by and check out the show (still untitled lolol), august 6-8 @ nvrlnd. studios in ramsay (calgary, AB). I'm both so nervous and excited for this body of work! :-)
✋🏼 more details / thoughts about building this piece:
〰️ final height ~ 17 inches tall
〰️ clay used: bright white from Tucker’s (Ontario based)
〰️ banding wheel came with my shimpo wheel at a local estate sale - having the plastic layer on top was super helpful in detaching the piece during the process!
〰️ used about 1 and a half bags of clay (~ 15 kg rough estimate, though some of this was scraped away and re-used later so hard to say exactly!)
〰️ the kiln I use will only fit something up to 19” tall so that was the limit I was working with

it really truly is! thank you! 💘
This was so calming and aesthetically put together
Agreed!
I second this!
thank you so much! 🥰
oh I can't wait to see how you glaze it! This inspires me to try to hand build something big...
eeep I'm so nervous about decorating it now that it's built ahah! I'll definitely post a finished update. and yes you should totally try making a big piece!!! so fun to expand your practice every once in a while :-)
Woahhh I just started a coil pot yesterday! Yours is so even and smooth its amazing
ooh yay!! ty haha I just clean it up and smooth it out a lot as I go! the camera probably hides some of the texture / small bumpy spots too 😅 best of luck with yours!
@@fromtreetosea noice! cant wait to see it glazed and fired 💕
as someone who recently came back to ceramics and is now handbuilding at home... this was so fun to watch! coiling seems to be the way to go for vases! I mostly only have porcelain right now so I don't know how well it'll go. we'll see! looking forward to seeing the progression of this piece!
oh so fun! would love to hear your results working with porcelain if you try it, I hardly ever work with it so I’m curious 🥰
I love your little studio 💛 it was so cool for me to see your process on this as I know pretty much nothing about ceramics haha! best of luck to you while you prepare for your solo show. so exciting! 🥰
oh that’s so fun! you should definitely try it out if you ever get the chance :-) & thank youuu! 💕
Very satisfying video. Thanks for sharing your process.
big congrats to your first solo art show!!! if only I lived in Calgary T.T but seeing your hand building process looks like so much fun!! definitely makes me wanna try to challenge myself into hand building at a larger scale! :-)
thank you so much angel!! wish you could come to the show 🥺 definitely recommend trying it even for the experience, it’s so fun working at a different scale / getting off the wheel! 💕
Calm and nice video! Love the result! Thank you for sharing!
Greetings from small Finland!
Loved the piece, loved ur art workspace. Came across you and the channel with this video. 🌸🌸
I’m so glad you enjoyed it - yay and welcome! :-)
So amazing! Will definitely check out your art show for sure!! I hope you could host a workshop in the future too!! 😍
YAY! I was actually just chatting about potentially doing a winter handbuilding workshop in the same space the art show will be so stay tuned!! :-)
WOW! Beatiful!
Thank you! 😊
Wow you are brave and calm person! Your piece came out beautiful. Just found your channel. Definitely gonna subscribe. Thank you for sharing. Peace.
Parabéns muito lindo seu trabalho amei
When I look at your squiggly piece, I envision a sphere shaped complimentary piece 😊
ooh I like the sounds of that!
I get so inspired seeing you work, I'm also a ceramist (I'm actually still learning) from Brazil. How much clay did you used for this one? Sending lots of love :*
great question, I just added some more details to the description! I would say roughly a bag and a half of clay (under 20 kg) - it’s a bit hard to estimate but I’ll try to note how much I used for future projects! 💕
it turned out well) and is it necessary to bake such a vase somehow, or is it self-drying clay?
thank you! It’s made from stoneware so I had to fire it in a kiln :-)
@@fromtreetosea do you know what the type clay I can use for vase big size like 100cm height without oven?
I made almost the exact same shape hand coiled vase a couple years ago!!
ahh how fun to be on the same wavelength, I love that! :-)
Love this! Thanks for sharing your process and creativity!
Beautiful!!
I was using my canon g7x to film, probably perched on a pot or bottle of underglaze 😂
I'm a new member and loving your channel and work! I have to ask, the music you use, who is it??
yay welcome + thanks for watching! all my music is from epidemic sound (subscription based copyright-free music service!) 🥰
@@fromtreetosea thanks so much! I'm a sculptor in Northern California (near Lake Tahoe) and really love your videos. I'm binging tonight, haha! I take classes from a master sculptor here and am building up my work. It is great to see your passion and also your talent for videos!
@@JulietteWilliams whoa what a cool opportunity to learn!! 👏🏼
What is the surface/board made of you're rolling the coils on? I wraps around the edge of your table. It's genius.
it's actually a pre-made wedging board I ordered from Sounding Stone! it's a canadian pottery supplier but they have an online shop :-) I have one for every type of clay that I store under my working desk, so handy!
Where is that beautiful green tank from? 😍
a vintage gift from a friend!
How much did it weigh? :)
